For some context, I've been a 3D 'artist' for about 25 years...first with Lightwave (on an Amiga!), then 3DStudio DOS, then 3DS Max, a little Maya and Modo, and in the last year a lot more C4D.

I've been kicking around 2.8 for the past month to see where Blender is at, and I gotta say, I am just completely blown away. Flabbergasted. Astounded.

Since switching to C4D after 20 years mostly on Max, I've been spending a ton of time looking at feature parity, methodology, and general workflow stuff. I will say that I've hit snags with C4D...did you know you can't separate off polygons without an add-on on C4D?!? So now with Blender I've been doing the same thing. Throwing little tests at it, like making an array and breaking it apart into individual objects, or making sure modifying your pivot points is smooth. Usual stuff like that. And I have yet to be disappointed! I'm creating simple python scripts to speed workflow. I'm throwing challenges at Cycles. I'm dumping FBXs from other projects in. You name it. It is just holding up wonderfully.

I'm sure that to a lot of you here, this is not news. But to think that a piece of open source software has this level of quality and features is just staggering to me. I used Max every day for years, and grew to hate it. Maya is no different. Add in the cost of being in this disfunctional relationship and it becomes absurd.

Thank you all for dealing with adding in the 'industry standard' BS that we're all used to and makes Blender so much more accessible. It's like you opened the door to many thousands of other artists. Its was worth it.

I am screaming at every industry pro I know to throw it on their laptop and PLAY again. It's yours, it's everyone's. I'll be donating and feeling great about where that money is going. I think Blender is the future of CG.

Is this a new blendlet pasta we're supposed to meme, anon?

That's cool and all but I still want Maya-like navigation controls, not that Ctrl/Alt/Shift+MMB bullshit.

I want them BY DEFAULT.

Why would you take like two steps back? 3DS build-in renderer and material system was abysmal compared to the one in LW, even in '93-94.

we need a Blunder free zone on this board.

Hurrrr, it takes a few minutes the first time you open it up to set up Maya controls. That's what I did. No reason for them to make it standard (although it is my favorite). Max has different controls as well (and I hate them now).

Try it with good specs and 144Hz monitor. It's heavenly good, extremely comfy to work with.
>>
>>696399
The fuck does the display refresh rate have to do with edit performance? Fucking blendlets, I swear.
>>
>>696395
>IndustryStandardlets are now crying for a safe space
Lmao

>Did you know you can't separate off polygons without an add-on C4D?

Please tell me this is a troll?
Humble blendlet here, how can mean and rude standardlets think to bully me when their paid software cannot do something so simple?
>>

They literally are and it's been ramping up since 2.8 released
They jump in every thread to try shittting on blender but blendlet army is rising
>>
>>696393
Why would you be in edit mode with 5mil+ poly's if your not making some meme sculpt
>>
>>696395

It's the fucking blender board now. I'm only giving this place a few weeks to improve then I'm leaving for good.
>>
>>696442
To be honest I'm getting tired of it as well, and I've been using Blender for years.

People are crawling out of the woodwork because of 2.8 like it's the second coming and 3d is finally "easy" when it's literally no different than it's been since it still had that pastel color scheme.

How many people do you think are actually going to stick with 3D modelling after they've started deviating away from the tutorials and started trying to make their own creations?

The average person wants somebody else's imagination spoonfed to them, then when they try to make something of their own.. it turns out it wasn't as easy as they thought, then they ditch the program without putting actual effort into it. You guys are worrying too much about nothing.

This is pasta, or a troll.
Nobody would seriously entertain the thought of using C4D for a quarter of a century.
Unless you are either not in entertainment, some mograph monkey, clinically retarded, or any combination of the three.
XSI/Softimage? I may have bought it.
C4D? Fucking hell, nigga.

Thankfully, my studio is big enough of a safe space from blendlets.

Yes, you definitely can.

Why is it that every single blendlet is always an idiot?
>>
>>696372
>learns C4D
>too stupid to find a tool in the right click context menu
>seriously want us the believe that C4d needs an addon to separate meshes

Yeah, i am willing to bet money on the fact that OP is
1) a faggot
2) a retard
3) a false flaggin Blendlet
4) a liar

>Why is it that every single blendlet is always an idiot?
How could they become blendlets in the first place if they weren't idiots?
>>
..also started with 3d-studio-v30 DOS, friend had amiga, couldnt stand the cga grafx.. later dabbled with inventor.. are you familiar with viewpoint datashop 2.1 and/or 3.0 (datasets)..?

MAX since 3DS DOS days here.
As i said in another thread, Blender still doesn´t work with Zbrush - has that changed?
I always used Biped to animate characters in max, how´s blender rigging system compared? Is it as fast and good? Does it have some motion capture system?
Do you have some animation renders to show us?

Everything runs super smooth, 144hz is just a sugar on top.
>>
>>696542
You must be the only lucky one. Even the developers agree it's slow on edit mode.
>>
>>696474
Oh I'm not worried about anything. More people doing 3d, the better as it opens it up to new perspectives and shit. A lot of people just want to make the things that they want to make but have no other means, it ain't like they're looking to become industry pros. Just learn about something new and make shit. Good for them, I'm happy they've found an outlet they like.

All I'm saying is that all the hubub around 2.8 is kind of unwarranted. It's effectively the same, there's nothing really there that makes it any easier to work with than it has been. For some reason a prettier (subjective), coat of paint and a left click select suddenly makes it easier to use and I just don't buy it. Nothing has really changed as far as ease of use is concerned.

>meme sculpt

The whole industry uses sculpting for characters and even low poly stylized work. You sound like a failed artist seeking validation.

Cut him some slack, he's just a blendlet.
>>

yeh but why are you in edit mode then?
