If you want to be some sort of art director I imagine its beneficial. As a student I felt it was just a way for schools to take advantage of students and get exposure by showing off their ‘awards’.
I dont believe students really benefited their time compared to doing a turnaround/breakdown. You can get hired with a .jpg you dont need some student academy award to stress over.
