https://twitter.com/blender_org/status/1154003846718468098?s=20>blender is a joke>ubisoft, unreal, now anime studios joins their development funds
>>690690Still nothingburgers compared to the behemoth that is Autodesk
>>690690>Project Studio Q, Inc. joins blender dev funds >it's all a calculated PR act>still have to rely on tools like Maya, Houdini, Zbrush, Mari & Nuke to get any meaningful work done Why are blendies and zoomlets that gullible?
>>690691Give it time, it's only now that blender is starting to move forward.
>>690690Hope this mean Blender will make better tools for game devs
>>690693that's unlikely to change because companies don't like to change established pipelinesbut it doesn't mean new studios won't start off with blender. and after a while, the old will be replaced. open source is the future, especially when development funds eliminate its only weakness: lack of documentation
>>690693i see it mostly because of certain tools or certain dev looks they can get out of blender, not specifically to change their whole pipeline, that would be insane.i think, and this is only a guess, is that they are only interested for their grease pencil animations. nothing else.
>>690693You obviously don't replace all those programs with one you fucking retard, you only need to replace maya with blender.
>>690706lol there is literally no reason to do that. btw rigging and animating in blender is a joke compared to Maya.
>inb4 AD buys out blender and trashes it like XSI
>>690706>replace maya with blender.>laughs while dragging and dropping mel script.
>>690707It being free is a pretty fucking big reason if you aren't a hobbyist.
>>690710what? if anything you have it backwards, the time I save with maya's rigging tools is invaluable and using any other software is a deal breaker until they improve their workflow
>>690707>btw rigging and animating in blender is a joke compared to Maya.Blender is open source, Ubisoft Animation Studios for example wants to develop their own extensions and share them with the community. With all this funding and big companies getting behind it, do you really thing it will take long for someone to develop a rigging system that is to their liking?
>>690718>do you really thing it will take long for someone to develop a rigging system that is to their liking? It would take time but it's certainly not out of the possible to write an open source Maya equivalent.
>>690719Better get ready for lawsuits up the ass
>>690711>until they improve their workflowthats...thats what the funding is for anon
>>690724By this logic I should stop using Substance and use Blender instead because better texturing tools are coming at "some point". I don't live a life based on promises. Show me the results.
>>690726I'm explaining the likely result the investors are expecting, you're the one getting buttblasted over nothing.Maya is not an alternative to Substance either anyway, so not sure what your point was.
>>690701> Blender's only weakness is its documentation Is this how blendlets actually think?
>>690690This is like Valve funding development on Linux. Valve wants to keep the fire to Microsoft's feet to make sure it plays nice, so it tosses a little money at Microsoft's competition. Game studios want to force Autodesk to lower its exorbitant prices or at least force feature development to speed up, so they toss a little money at the competition.Let's wait and see whether it makes any difference.
>>690731>no argumentsIs this how rent free blendtards actually talk?
>>690731i wasn't talking just about blender you absolute fucking brainlet. wash the semen our of your eyes, re-read my post and try again.
>>690708>this is the average high IQ poster on /3/
I don't think this will replace any of the big tools. Note I'm not saying "any time soon" I'm saying "it won't happen". But it's also not the nothing burger, or PR OP people are claiming it is. Big business has always had this love/hate relationship with open source software. Like how they try to discourage linux from becoming mainstream, all while putting a ton of their stuff on linux, since it's free. A free tool, even if it's just going to be used on minor stuff on the back end, is one less license a company is going to have to pay. And an anime company going blender makes sense, since their CGI looks ps1 level anyway.
>>690738I'm a triple digit heavyweight. Posting daily on 4chan for the past decade really expands your consciousness.
>>690732Makes sense. Give some money to develop Blender, next version has two out of every three features needed for production. Meanwhile, Autodesk takes notice of the message, and pushes the development of Maya another five years ahead of Blender. Perhaps even considers lowering licensing costs for studios. It's a cheap win for the big producers.
>>690711>until they improve their workflow2.8 is red pilled... i learned 3dsmax and had a hard time with 2.79. 2.8 is insanely easy in comparison and very similar to max. plus its fuckin FREE
>>690690People who say Blender is a joke are stuck in 2013.That being said, large companies won't go open source. Ever.
>>690763Apparently Nintendo used blender in some way for their smash announcement trailers or something.Think it was mentioned in some did you know gaming video.Although I have to admit I don't know what their source is.But I could see your post possibly become one of those "this didn't age very well"-posts.
Why is there even an argument about Blender vs Maya? Is it just consumemer trolling? Who the fuck actually renders in modeling software when there's Iray for UE4 or UE4 with Substance plugin? Like, shit, baking in UE4 is actually tenable even without iray and it looks incredible. If Substance got its' shit together and had it to where you can render from viewport it'd be the quickest workflow on the planet.
>nobody likes Ubisoft because they sell games early access with false footage and gameplay elements>Nobody likes Unreal because it's bloated and slow as snail shit, takes manpower to shave off what you don't need in your game>Nobody likes 3dcg in anime period>blendlets proud to be backed financially by these>blendlets don't even understand that money doesn't make a good program, good programmers do>instead blenderfund will spend this money on hiring more basedboy spokesmen to plug their tshirt and coffee mug sales>youtube numales making tutorials on Mac for how to kitbash premade resources earn billions>green words>people who actually program the core functions hardly exist outside of the blender dungeoun where all the real work is done
>>690693Khara/Dwango have been investing money in the animation industry for a while now, this is just part of Anno's keikaku to advance the anime instrumentality project. Also blender's greasepencil has been used to animate a couple of cuts in SSSS.Gridman already. >>690811>>Nobody likes 3dcg in anime periodThe Animator Expo had some very good examples of what good 3DCG anime can look like. Land of the Lustrous was super popular. Kemono Friends looked like shit but was hugely popular. Some studios are very talented at including CG that doesn't clash with the 2D animation.
>>690690So this is the power of improving your UI...
>>690763Meanwhile, Microsoft pushes another ten thousand for the linux kernel.
>>690811>>Nobody likes 3dcg in anime periodThe only reason I know about this fucking mobile game is because someone on this board was gushing about its announcement trailerhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gY1FiE16T30
>>690718It's probably going to be 2d cartoons.
>>690811>>Nobody likes 3dcg in animebecause of how badly done it is
>>690690>Japanese Anime studios KharaRaghead here.Just passing by to say that "Khara" means "shit" in Arabic.Have a nice day.
>>691693>Just passing by to say that "Khara" means "shit" in Arabic.Ejkvörd here.Just passing by to say that "Allah" means "Bootlicker" in Rümzic's Eastern dialect.Have a nice day.
>>691721That's great to know my brother.Just wanted to let you know that my turban is shaped like a Fedora, so all your insults to Allah are fine by me.Have a nice day.
