No, you're just bad at it. Quickly and rig don't usually belong in the same sentence. There are autoriggers out there but they're janky at best.

FYI.

Rigging is where you create the skeleton you use to then skin your model to that rig.

So custom rigs is basically just create a bone then attach it to another bone, that's it.

I use biped since forever, and i often find videos about rigging techniques i didn´t knew about.
Also, try to not go beyond simple skin and morph deformations: you´ll often find yourself exporting FBX formats to use in Unity or Unreal.
Do post your direct doubts here if you can, we might have the solution for your rigging problems.

Am I missing something but is Rigging in Maya convoluted as fuck. In max it's neatly in one menu in maya you have to paint skin weights then go out of that menu and select geometry go back to the paint menu and flood fill. Half the time mirroring doesn't work either. I was expecting some easy shit the way people were talking about it here. Much prefer max with a cat rig.

Maya is very powerful and the software of choice for big studios like Disney... IF you paid for the 687 plugins that makes animation easy as pie with it.
Raw Maya is a garbled, useless mess and if you´re going solo and economic class, your only bet is 3ds max with his Biped and old, tested and solid integrated solutions.
Not perfect, not flawless, but humanly possible and the software of choice for indie game developers that aren´t afraid of Autodesk lawyers.

I´m not sure how often they upgrade the list, probably there´s a new one for every animation, but i´ve heard that most Disney-Pixar Maya plugins are in-house creations - Pixar also uses their own whatsacallit software to make their toy stories, so things are in another level when it comes to them. You can do stuff with public available plugins for Maya - how they compare to the super plugins used by Disney and how easier is to animate with them compared to raw Maya, or even raw 3ds max, it´s a mystery and open to debate.
