My main concerns are how to make the eyes without a spherical shape, I have no idea how it is usually done.

And also how the eyelids are done, to make it possible to do ^_^, XD or U_U expressions.

Also also the mouth, how it is shaped so many expressions are possible. like °Д°.

Picture related is WIP, using Blender 2.8.

jesus christ stop with this already, this board has no new content, better retarded questions than nothing at all

From scratch? Or do you have a base mesh? You can do either but from a base mesh is far less of a hassle.

What's your wireframe looking like? For lowpoly stuff you typically want to hollow out the eye sockets and just have the irises floating in there.
>>
>>683826

There are a load on examples of sketchfab. You seem to be nearly there anyway. A trick with eyelids is to paint them over the eyes and just change the texture.

Yes, doing from scratch. I only had some previous experience with human faces, but never did any anime face before.

Are you planning on having this rendered in PBR with realtime lighting, or are you going to use some form of ramp shading, or are you going to hand-paint it?

PBR.

The objective is to have something close to this:

Okay, well from what I can tell the eyes in those models in the trailer are almost flat planes, curved slightly to fit inside the eye socket. The actual irises are just textured in with roughness turned all the way up.

https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/rory-mercury-3fb51d692eae494e8ed4cf6a4f42d1b7

I'd recommend doing eyes like this for now - check it in wireframe mode. You basically extrude the eye sockets in and have the irises just floating inside. It works well and it's easy to change later. Yes, it is possible to do these expressions, you just need to create blendshapes, but focus on getting the eyes right for now.

I'm not gonna comment on your hair situation, it's obviously not finished yet. Those polys under the eyes look too tight, it's creating a bag, spread them out a bit. If it were up to me, the model wouldn't have lips, but if you're trying to go for what's in the video, I guess that's unavoidable.

You should use more references beside that video. Go to bowlroll and find a Miku model that resembles the one you want, take front and side shots of the face and try to copy the shape and topology (don't worry, you won't be able to copy it perfectly anyway, you're not the guy who made the model). The closest one to what you want is probably Append.

Don't worry about lighting or rendering or anything else past the mesh right now, the time just isn't right to be spending precious time doing any of those things.

Thank you for your tips. I will try it out.

And actually I'm going to try to get closer to this one:

Which is the same model as the game opening. But with different hair.

The face looks a bit pinched vertically along the middle, especially around the nose. You may want to soften that area. Also it's good to use three-quarter lighting instead of just light from the side, since the latter tends to divide the face in half, which is unappealing.

Fucking christ why do all blender users posted work always suck shit. Fucking christ did you at any point look at a reference and then your 'wip' and realise 'I've made a piece of shit' and then actually learn how to model forms properly you stupid fucking nigger?
>>
>>683826
>>684001
The best thing you can do is find 3d models of games with anime characters in them and use them as a reference for your own work. AFTER you learn how to fucking model properly. Depending on what level of detail you want and if you can actually do digital artwork, you can either do low poly sorcery shit with image planes for eyes and even the mouth like in the old n64 games (even twilight princess uses image planes with transparency for eyes) OR you can model the full fucking face and use blend shapes or something for the meme facial expressions like ^_^ or XD, etc. MMD models use that kind of geometry so if you can find a model for mmd and import it into bender you can study the geometry and stop being a massive faggot.
>>
I don't even go on this board, nor do I model, but I could make a better fucking model with 1 hour of practice, OP. What the fuck.

Lmaooo OP. I don't know how to say this without being a douche....so I'm just going to say it. This hair is just awful. I know you tried really hard, but this is straight out of my nightmares.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2XjdzzWCqI

Try this tutorial, OP. It's beginner/intermediate friendly. It will come out a lot better, and look less like a tranny troll doll. If you need some help with it, I'm working on a similar anime style project royalty#6669.

The face is actually pretty decent, OP, The eyes aren't too far apart, and the face is mostly well spaced. The chin is slightly too small for my tastes, but that's up to personal preference. You're definitely getting somewhere with it.

Mangaka can draw whatever they want. Why not just model a number of faces and swap them as necessary?

Shading matters if you want it to look like anime.

I can't think of any model I've see where those expressions are done by actual animations. Every example I've ever seen just has a completely different model for the different eye states (or the entire head) that they just swap in an out as needed.

Honestly, any other solution would be almost insane.
