There does not appear to be any rule against making this kind of thread in the Introduction and Guide sticky, so here it goes:

I am looking for a 3D model artist who is familiar with creating 3D models, textures, and animations for games based on the Source engine. You WILL be compensated for your work. The Source engine is the game engine which is the foundation for games such as Half-Life 2. I need game assets for the project I am working on which uses the Source engine, I have attached a screenshot of the game in its current stage of development. This project is meant to be a continuation of an old Half-Life 1 mod called Master Sword: Continued, the name 'Master Sword' is coincidental with the game franchise 'Legend of Zelda' which features a weapon called 'The Master Sword' and they are not related whatsoever. This game will be an online medieval fantasy RPG game, the players will fight monsters for XP and loot and such. Presently there is barely any game assets for this project, I want to offer anyone, with talent, the opportunity to make content for this game, but it NEEDS to be made for the Source engine, that is a NECESSARY requirement. Let me reiterate: I am able and willing to pay you compensation for your work, but it needs to be for the right price. I want to see some examples of your work, a set of screenshots will do nicely, if you are interested email them to me at this address: thewhitelion@airmail.cc.

This project was STARTED sometime in 2004 or 2005 when Half-Life 2 was released, but it was never finished. I have taken charge to complete it due to my own admiration for the game. I am aware of Source 2, which the SDK is not even published yet (the game tools are though, such as the level editor), but once it is released I intend to port everything I have to Source 2 (there are some rumors out there that say porting Source 1 content to Source 2 will be possible). For now though Source is it, and personally I don't see it as being 'incredibly outdated', hell there are still dozens of people playing GOLD source games, such as Sven Coop.

You will struggle to find someone. Source uses one backwards ass workflow which was even annoying to use at the time. Artists generally take on projects to try and learn something which can be used in other areas. Taking on a project where you cant apply what you did in this one would be counter productive. That's just my 2 cents anyway.

Ok. I'm in I expect immediate payment up front and dental, or at least you'll cover one dentist appointment for me out of pocket. I'm a little behind on tooth cleanings and cavity checks. I also need paid holidays and my household is celebrates all the jewish holidays. I expect a competitive 60 dollars an hour. I don't believe I actually need to post my work as you can tell from my demands how skilled I am.

If you can do that I will give you my free time and occasional weekends to develop this mod for you

Online ? You know about permanent servers and maintanance and all that crap ?
Apart from that are probably hundreds of Android games NOW of such kind better than yours will ever be with outdated Source

look man you seem nice and all, let me give you some advice. his project is a dead end for you and as a game, this project will never be at a point that's playable. ask they other people working on it or people people who had worked on it how many people have worked on it. it sucks to any of the work you have put in, but don't lean into the sunk cost, recognize it.

Hi. When you come over and dump a description as shitty as "I'm making an online RPG thing. I need 3D models. I can pay you, maybe.", you come across as disorganized and unable to manage people properly.

Where's your asset list? Do you have a basic, 2-page GDD? Do you have a mockup of a schedule? What kind of area size are you looking to populate? What prices are you offering per model? Don't just drop the "I am willing to pay you" line, because nobody will bother to email you to ask, be upfront with information if you want to sway people over. If you've been working on this for a while, where's your prototype? It doesn't have to be anything special, but showing that you can make the game really helps people trust that you can make the game.

You may say in return that this is just a hobbyist project, but if you're bringing people in, you're gonna have to act as project manager, so you'll at least need some of these things.

Anyway, as weird as it sounds, this is a terrible board to ask for 3D game help. It's slow and barren and people are more busy working on their own shit. Go post in the agdg general on /vg/. Go there and post frequent updates of you developing this. If people see that you're committed and you're putting in the work, chances are a 3D modeler or two will want to jump in to help you out, especially if you're offering cash. Don't waste any more time here, you will likely not get the kind of person you're looking for.
