Is it just me or is 3ds max so fucking gardbage? >long time user in blender>decide to move to 3ds max for architectual visualisation, since everyones using max apparently. >oh, everything done to the object are added as modifiers. thats fine....>want to extrude something>huh thats funny I need to convert the object using a modifier, instead of puhsing the tab button in blender>huh thats funny, the extrude function is only going in one direction. >thats ok, i'll watch a tutorial on how do it properly, thats from 2006 , but it doesnt matter since max hasn't changed at all since then. >remind myself that the simplicity in blender was better because you could create what you wanted faster. >remind myself again that blender has changed FASTER than max. I get 3ds max has a big learning curve , but it can't be this difficult just to make simple objects? Compared to my start in blender all those years ago, I was faster at creating and editing things than I was in max. At least Maya is better in every regard because it closely resembles blender functionality. Simple functions and shortcuts to edit your mesh. So why cant max do the same? Get rid of the uncessasary options and modifiers, and update the UI.
>>677523>huh thats funny I need to convert the object using a modifierNo you don't. Just right click and convert to edit poly.>the extrude function is only going in one direction. Based on Group normals, local normals or by poly normals. After which you can move and scale the extrusion as you would anything else.Literally what the fuck are you talking about?
>>677525>No you don't. Just right click and convert to edit poly.yeah thats adding a modifier retard. >Based on Group normals, local normals or by poly normals. After which you can move and scale the extrusion as you would anything else.Seems I need to go through so many hoops just to do something as simple as extrude a face.Literally what the fuck are you talking about?
>>677526A modifier goes in the modifier stack, retard. When you convert it there's no modifier.>go through so many hoopsIt's literally one button at the top of the extrude menu.Sad attempt at shilling your shareware.
>>677529>A modifier goes in the modifier stack, retard. When you convert it there's no modifier.Oh whoopty fucking do. You think that makes it any more convenient? >Sad attempt at shilling your shareware. No need, it seems the release of max 2020, people are already moving over to blender.
>>677530>No need, it seems the release of max 2020, people are already moving over to blender.Wait until they find all modeling is destructive. They'll remove their MoveToBlender modifier.
>>677531ahahah, I guess only time will tell then.
>>677523>Is it just me or is 3ds max so fucking gardbage?>>long time user in blenderits youdefinitely you
>>677523>I get 3ds max has a big learning curveALL 3D SOFTWARE HAS A BIG LEARNING CURVE.How do i know? Simple, i can create whatever i want in 3dsmax, but i was trying to move to Maya for character animation... the thing is primarily NURBS based (which answered a lot of questions regarding render quality and animation on it, really) and i couldn“t create even a bouncing ball by guessing the interface. Maya is primarily for movies and cutscenes - 3ds MAX is for poly modeling and polygon-based character animation (with the BIPED system i can fully rig a character in a couple of hours), but if i really want to learn Maya it will consume me a good chunk of a year following tutorials everywhere.
>>677526>>>677525>yeah thats adding a modifier retard.No, it's not.
Going from Max to Blender, I do miss the modifiers sometimes. They're handy for applying additional operations like push or extrude that'll update as you edit stuff below it. Wonder if anybody recreated them for Blender. And yeah, OP's being a fag for not getting how Max works and then acting like a cocky know-it-all about it.
>>677523Ignore the shills max is depreciated software. Autodesk pays people to make sure every college in the county uses their software you think they won't have people on staff to go to 3dcg forums to sell their products?
As a 3ds max user turned blender user since 3ds max 2011, yeah 3ds max on its own isn't very good but that's not what's special about it.What's special(and is also the source of this forums circlejerk about it) is that it is(or arguably, was, the standard, seems maya has taken that crown) the industry standard, meaning that,1. The plugins that you get (like vray, octane, etc) wont be afterthoughts2. There will be more high quality tutorials3. It's an easier sell for studios to hire you since they don't have to teach you how to use 3ds max(though this last point really doesn't matter if you're a freelancer or hobbyist)And getting used to the very traditional way 3ds max models as opposed to the fast shortcutty snappy way blender models is going to be a pain but hey it's not all bad, you now have an actual edit poly modifier and a decent opensubdiv implementation.
>>677565>fast shortcutty snappy way blender models
>>677523I tried moving to blender, but it's unusable with scenes that have more than 20k polys, the performance dip in edit mode is attrocious, which is laughable, desu, and makes it unusable for my workflow: I tend to add an edit poly modifier on top of the turbosmooth modifier in order to add detail. Besides, you can extrude destructively without using a modifier, what are you talking about?
>>677565You can use the exact same shortcuts you use in blender in 3ds max. In fact, blender out of the box is slow as balls to model. Deleting a fucking face opens a menu asking you what you want to delete, for example. Also, max modifier stack is really convenient out of the box.I only want to move to blender because nitrous is a lot worse than eevee, but that's about everything blender has going for it.
>>677523>long time user in blender>Is it just me or is 3ds max so fucking gardbage
2018 - Why do people still feed the trolls and why don't these threads get deleted asap?btw>"Maya ... closely resembles blender functionality"Maya = blunder tier, confirmed!
>>677572>I tried moving to blender, but it's unusable with scenes that have more than 20k polyAre you running Blender on a laptop from 1997?Blender handles many million tris on my computer just fine.
>>677877that's it? modo can handle tens of billions on my 15 year computer just fine
>>677881>This modelling program specifically made for high poly sub-d can for more than an all-purpose editor.Really desperate to chime in something, huh?
>>677886>blender>all-purpose editor
>>677887What a childish response.
>>677891still more mature than blender is
>>677892That doesn't even make sense.
A THREAD PERISHED FOR THIS
im appalledif I known that I would've got such childish responses I wouldnt've made this thread in the first place. But it's nice to see who is pro blender and who is pro max.
>>677523It's just you Op. Max's poly tools have legendary status among 3D artisans, historically only modo has recieved higher praise from it's users in this regard. But ofcourse you will initially be able to create something faster with a tool you already know inside out.If you wanna discover why max has the reputation it does you will have to delve deeper than your first confused impressions.Look at some timelapse vids of advanced users building stuff and you'll see things happen are bound to catch your eye.
>>677916>who is pro maxProfessionals who do this for a living.>who is pro blender"Long-time Blender users."
>>677918actually, this is the most educated and mature response i've got. and i'll go with it.
>>677529>the extrude menuheh
>>677523No OP, it's just you.
>>677916>double dipping for more (you)s
>>677918
>>677924
>>677894>>677892>>677891>>677887>>677886>>677881You're both childish retards.
>>678131t. a kid.
>>678195Hwy, I'm not the guy arguing about Modo vs Blender in a thread about 3DS Max and how "useless" it is.If anything, you're the kid. Hell, all of /3/ are clearly kids if they're going to get into slapfights THIS easily.
>>678205*Hey
>>678205stop taking the internet so seriously
>>677523the usual shitposting>want to extrude something>I need to convert the object using a modifieryou're just fucking bad with 3dsmax.. don't blame the soft for your incompetence..
>>677877It's a known issue. What the fuck are you talking about?Just make a cube and subdivide (not even with open subdiv) it to up to 80k polis and then try to manipulate one of the individual faces. You're going to get a huge slowdown, like everyone else is getting.Just download 3ds max, it's free with a student license and has an actually useful modifier stack and modifiers.
>>678209Not until /3/ stops first.
>>678254Works on my machine
>>678286No, it doesn't.I mean, have you tried any other 3d package?Anyone works smoothly at those poly counts but blender drops to like 5fps.
>>677523Same dude.>get a job offer>requirements Photoshop, 3D Max>Download 3d max since i haven't used it since college. Switched to blender after college and used it since.>Start up 3d Max. Working with it is slow as shit, unintuitive, slugish, basic tasks that make up 70% of the work time - take up 2 clicks to much to accomplish compared to blender. It was like im working back on windows 95.Not surprising, the company still uses Photoshop CS3 that doesnt even have Graphical Processor support. Basic quality of life stuff that impact majority of work time aren't there. And just like 3D max work is 3 times slower on it.Literally gimping themselves using these dinosour programs.
>>678309>>Start up 3d Max. Working with it is slow as shit, unintuitive, slugish, basic tasks that make up 70% of the work time - take up 2 clicks to much to accomplish compared to blender.just fucking wrong in all levels. youre clearly a beg and it shows.the only merit blender has had and will ever have is the fact that its free, but its tools are atrocious, i especially hate its cut tool, just fucking awful.
>>678313>tools clearly visible >he needs to see le buttons to use toolstalking about dinosaurs lmaot. modochad
>>678312>blenders UI does the same thing but takes up 1/3rd of the space. Amazing what a space age 3d package can do. I mean if my employees aren't using a keyboard when working with photoshop or 3d, i'd fire them right there and then for wasting companies time.
>>678318>blender shills type out post numbers by hand while preaching "efficiency"
>>678319Sorry Vicky, didn't know you werent happy with your post.
>>678314again, blender has 0 modelling tools.
>>678318>blenders UI does the same thing but takes up 1/3rd of the space.the same what? work? no it doesnt, lmao you clearly dont model. blenders tools are literally non existant, but its free tho right?
>>678309Hey blendie, what's the super fast hotkey for edge sliding with curvature following?
