Will 2.8 have big improvements to sculpting? Will 2.8 be able to have an alternative to Substance designer and painter? It's there any FOSS alternative on linux to substance painter and designer?
There will be a dynamesh style update to sculpting. Plus a lot of cool features. Check https://twitter.com/pablodp606Substance designer style. Yeah, Ton said that if the Blender monthly supported fund gets more money, it will be done, but take Tons promises with a ton of salt. The man has a long history of hyping up cool things but delivering nothing.
>>676926>It's there any FOSS alternative on linux to substance painter and designer? The closest I've been able to find is Armor Paint, it's open source and 18 bucks (free if you go through the process of compiling it) but it's still in development so it's probably missing a lot of functionality that Substance Painter has.
>>676927Pretty much, I'm not holding out too much hope on the promise of an updated animation and rigging system myself.
>>676926No.2.8 is literally only about the new UI.
Can you bake Displacement maps in Blender 2.8
>>679121No, you can't. The baking is also slow and bad.
>>679159Prove it or shut up. All of this talking shit about Blender needs to stop. Blender is perfectly fine.
>>679231why in the fuck would you bake in blender? why torture yourself when so many superior alternatives exist? you don't have to pretend like blender is good at everything, its ok to use other programs
>>679231Look man, I actually like Blender but baking is really goddamn awful in it. Even with add-ons the quality is the poorest in the entire industry.
>>679272Poorest quality for the lowest price lol fair enough.
>>676926blender still wont be able to handle high poly counts very well so if you're planning to do anything high detail with your sculpt you'll have to paint the bump rather than sculpting it
>>679326>you'll have to paint the bump rather than sculpting itThis is reasonable behavior even if you sculpt in ZBrush. Why would you sculpt pores when you can simply paint them?
>>679325No, Xnormal is also free and produces top quality bakes. Blender is just shit.
>>679231I've never baked much in Blender, and when I've tried, it either crashes the program, make my machine unresponsive or just comes out looking wrong. Does Maya have any baking tools, or do I have to get another program altogether?
>>676926>Will 2.8 have big improvements to sculpting?Yes, already has.I don't even bother with Zbrush anymore.>Will 2.8 be able to have an alternative to Substance designer and painter?Nope. There has been vague promises of "better texturing tools", but it's the bottom item on a list of other "potential future features".That said, ArmorPaint (which is an open source tool based on Blender) is beginning to look pretty good. Not as good as Substance Painter, but slowly getting better. Personally, I'm hoping for a merge with the main branch of Blender in the future.>It's there any FOSS alternative on linux to substance painter and designer?ArmorPaint
>>679231You're able to bake displacements in 2.7 Because blender render is in. however with 2.8... they removed it. and can now no longer bake displacements. If you wish to prove us wrong, please. let us know.
>BIG improvements>STILL 20 years behind
>>679337Xnormal, Substance, Marmoset, Knald
>>676926LMAOlike asking will MS Paint ever be better than Photoshop
