Mari 4.5 has now a Materials System. Is this the beginning of the end for Substance?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKD5NLrO2ww
>The beggining of the end of substance? No but hopefully it lights a fire up adoberithmic's ass
>2000 dollar price taglol no
>no layers thumbnailsNot.
>>676112Quality has its price, video game pleb. I can't properly paint assets with SP for 4k to 8k target resolutions.
>>676100>hopefully it lights a fire up adoberithmic's asskek. couldn't say it better.
>>676112It's only $60/month. Rent it each time you need it.
>>676112It's free for non commercial useSo it's free in your case
>>676177It's also free for people sailing under the black flag.Foundry can't do nothing, I have an offline workstation.
Looks cool especially the way you can automatically add textures and convert them to Mari mats by flagging the naming conventions.Fuck I need to organize my textures folder.Fuck I hate substance painter.
>>676096Does this thing slow to a crawl if you have a lot of layers like substance painter does.
>>676212Oh I thought that only happens to me because of my not very good pcBut I don't think Mari has the same problems, it being voxel based and all.Of course you could just download ithttps://www.foundry.com/products/mari/non-commerciallike, come on, it's only a few gigs
>>676231>it being voxel basedwat
>>676096Yeah, but can it fucking blur textures? Is there anything at all that can blur textures in the year of our lord two thousand and nineteen?
>>676212>>676231no it doesn't, it's slow on it's own, but it's a stable kind of slowI recall pretty good explanation given here why it happens but that was quite some time ago
>>676119why would you need to work at 8k resolution why
>>676243photoshop bucko basically anything has Gaussian blur
>>676300VFX/Film, mainly.
>>676300Do you think puny VG assets hold up at HD resolutions?
>>676183>It's also free for people sailing under the black flag.this is the coolest way of describing Online piracy I have seen
One question about Mari: Since it has Ptex, does that mean that if I wanted to, I could completely forego proper UVs, Mari won't even look at them and any result baked from Mari onto said UVs will be seamless anyway? Of course overlapping UVs and such would still cause problems, but not having to worry about seams like in Substance would be great.
>>676359look man if you constantly look for ways to cheat you're not gonna make it. There is no way around proper UV's or the industry would have already made a workflow out of it. Use Ptex or use UV's, these are your options. There is no magical way where you don't have to put effort in.
>>676362>cheatThere's no such thing as cheating, if Ptex allows me to avoid worrying about UV seams too much then that is saved time which means more content in the same work hours. >There is no way around proper UV's or the industry would have already made a workflow out of it.What I'm asking though is: isn't that exactly why Ptex was made? To supplant UVs due to their many shortcomings?
>>676359Ptex is deader than doornails. Horrible workflow that requires completely redoing your textures if you make the tiniest topology change. Nobody uses it outside of Disney.
>>676359>>676364What >>676368 said. Just want to note that if your concern is with seams, Mari allows you to paint across them without issues. It also supports painting across UDIM tiles perfectly, which Substance doesn't.
>>676177>You can work with a maximum of five objects at once. What a joke.
>>676368>>676377Ptex is for 3D chads with 150+ IQ, not for 3D asset monkeys like you
this thread is filled with adobe snake oil salesmenmari is GREAT. deal with it.
>>676390In the non-commercial version, yes. And no more than 6 UDIM tiles. Those limits are lifted in the commercial license. The Adobe alternative is limited to one object and doesn't have proper UDIM support.
>>676301That's UV space blur my man. It looks like shit and got seams all over.
