what do you fellas think of "4k" update of ness' ssbb model?

>used ai gigapixel to upscale textures and to generally fill in gaps as well as attempt to increase quality
>cleanly subdivided the model (still some lighting errors sadly, im not perfect)
>recolored textures because its my preference (may have resulted in loss of quality)
>rendered with some neat lighting just because

im still fairly amateur but i thought it turned out pretty good, if anyone wants the .blend (im aware of how bad that sounds all things considered but its free) i'll post a link or somethin

This right here is a perfect example of fundamentally missing the point and charm or even and understanding of what sort of data is held in a texture.

You gain absolutely nothing from increasing a low resolution textures size. The texture was obviously designed and tweaked with that size in mind. And your effort nearly encapsulates the "hi res textures" meme. Does the model even have normal maps or is it just a diffuse textured model from an old game?

To quote so many other anons, a thread died for this. A bit of all of us died for this. Imagine what better uses the time you wasted on something as useless as upscaling and recoloring a texture from an old game for absolutely nothing or any purpose physically hurts me. Congratulations for achieving such failure that I type out a full post just to tell you four words:

hey pal. upscaling the textures took 6 mins max and applying them took less time as well, if i wanted to add normal maps to give it more depth i could. the point was a proof of concept in my own free time, like i said. im fairly amateur and am just trying to practice what goes into textures in my free time, hell i even applied an armature to him to practice movement. i like ness and i really wish i couldve gotten my hands on his ssbu model or even his sm4sh model, but i cant get them off the internet. so...

Your "upscaling" and repainting effort removed a lot of the detail present in the cap's polyester and denim in the jeans. The stitching in the shorts also looks noticeably worse now. Your subdivison is completely imperceptible as far as I can tell, so it's a total waste of resources. For some reason you normalmapped the hair or something? It looks like a guy accidentally went in there with the sculpt brush. And the lighting looks bad, there are overly dark spots everywhere and it doesn't play well with the cartoony aesthetic of the character. Next time use three lights with a rim or at least load an HDRi in if you're a lazy cunt.

I think it went fairly ok, but there are some very obvious texture definition losses. I suggest pulling the model apart in blender or maya, maybe put the UV islands out into seperate UDIMs and work in substance painter (noob friendly!) to put better materials on there. You might also want to create a roughness map, and maybe even a heightmap for the stitches in the cap. Good previs, now it's time for the real work!
