I have the option of taking a job as a 3d character artist for a project that has a lot in common with Senran Kagura. Even though this isn't exactly my dream job, I'm currently just trying to break into doing 3d art and I don't want to have to take some other unskilled job while I'm trying to get more mileage making art.

If I do a good job on my work and present my project work in a non-cringey way to future employers, will I end up regretting taking this job in-terms of its effect for future job applications? It seems like no one would deny me a job as long as the deliverables are high quality and that I show my concept iteration process with my art director.

I would never hire you.
>>
>>669836
Why is that? Even if my portfolio is strong and doesn't represent itself in a cringey manner?
>>
>>669835
I personally wouldn't use it on my portfolio.
Employers want a strong portfolio, but they also need people who are easy to work with AND get along with. Some guy who makes 3D porn might be weird and creepy and could cause issues in a team environment (especially working with women artists), they dont want to risk sexual harrassment or poor teamwork because one guy is being a weirdo.

I think if I can show range in my portfolio and cover up the more cringey aspects of the project, the average employer will probably not care.

A project like this requires anatomical knowledge on-top of being able to work with non-photorealistic workflows. I'm sure if I choose the most modest costumes/representations of my work for my portfolio, no one will mind. Especially if there are other pieces in my portfolio independent of this project that show additional versatility.

As long as it's modest and not as lewd as the picture in OP it should be all good, I think I just worry too much about these things.

>>669835
Dude, i need a 3D modeler, can you help me out
>>
>>669851
If you pay, sure.
>>
>>669852
oh boy, well here's the thing, i would love to pay you but i just don't have the money, so far my team is just me and some other guy that knows how to code, are you still up for it

Not saying where I work, rule #1 if you plan to do this op.

Do 3D / 2D / none animated pure porn commissions / personal projects for different groups, people in different parts of the world.

Also do wall murals, G - PG 13 art commissions, hired work, volunteer work.

Went into previously a "new job"

They found out I did hardcore/lewd 3D/2D and the like. I didn't try and pretend it wasn't me, I just told them. Didn't make a big deal, shared some of my portfolio with that material.

Them: >Anon you won't try and sneak porn into our projects like some had down in the past in various fields where artist were involved?

Me: >No I won't.

Them: >Good you're hired.

That's it. If they sperg out, move on. Not that hard.

why would a future employer be upset that you make cute anime girls? like if anime girls were like 5-10% of your overall portfolio, who cares? it shows range.

and you never know they might be a closet /senran/ fan, like me. homura is my favorite. i have never let anyone in real life know about this

Sorry but Homura is kinda ugly because of the tan.
>>
>>670077
the tan is what made me like her. she's the only original senran with tan
>>

How did they find out?

Look, if its a proper job and you get money for it and learn some stuff it is beneficial anyways, you already win. You then can decide what to put into your folio.
As long as it is not pure pornographic and you have balance in your portfolio it wont hurt. You also have the option to tweak it.

Is there somewhere in particular you want to work?

I really hope the next game isn't a let-down

I don't hire clowns with dubious work backgrounds. Into the trash you go.
>>
>>669835
there are far too many applicants to bother taking a chance on someone with that kind of crap in their portfolio

I think I went through a similar situation. My portfolio right now is 90% anime. Not too long ago, I ended up sending a job request to CyberConnect2, since they make anime games and such, and linked my sketchfab account as my portfolio. Even though I generally don't post any overtly NSFW stuff in there, there's still a couple of pieces I would consider raunchy, so I at least tagged them with the Age+ thing. Even then, before I sent them that form, I couldn't help but to sub to pro for a month just to private the models.

I am not an employer in any capacity, but if I was, I'd like to think that it's as you say: as long as the work is solid and high quality, there's no reason to reject the person outright, at least give him an art test or call him in for an interview. So I guess that's what I would do, at the very least segregate the promiscuous stuff with a filter or something, since I think it's unlikely a recruiter is going to go around poking really deep into your account. Their job is to go through folios hard and fast so they find a few candidates to move up the recruitment chain and filter out the rest.

If you need a dowsing rod, I guess a handy-dandy flowchart would be something like this: would your family think you're looking at pornography by looking at this 3D mesh? If yes, then filter it in some way. Obviously this only applies to sending companies your stuff. If you're just running a personal account, go wild.

Just my opinion, of course.

Just because you can't get a job, Pajeet.
>>
>>670617
But what if it is really, really good 3d porn?
>>
>>671087
They are told they won't be a "good fit" for the company culture, and sent away with best of luck wishes. The interviewer then takes their portfolio home for further "review", and a bit later, already in bed, cannot but feel a pinch of remorse and self-doubt before quickly falling asleep.
>>
I wouldn't hire you. I'd fear you over-sexualizing my own game's designs and causing problems in the workplace.
>>
>>671296
What if the portfolio had characters with no sign of sexualization, too? Would that work in favor of the applicant?
>>
>>669916
>Is this Lara Croft horse donging yours, sir?
>Oh yes, I've also worked in a team developing Sunny horse double donging,
>[nodding and note taking]
>one of the challenges was working to a Patreon deadline while under threat from the cops.
>I see. So, anyway, you know, we could really use someone innovative like you in the company.
I don't see it being possible.

PLEASSEE RESSS{PPONMMDDD!!!! FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

Would you hire this guy?
