Can't afford Maya because young and been looking to get into modelling.

>Can't afford Maya
Maya got an Edu license and it's free
https://www.autodesk.com/education/free-software/maya
>>
>>662361
Just pirate maya and/or use student license and worry about paying for it when your skills are paying you. You'll be doing yourself a huge favor in the long run.
>>
>>662369
Forgot that I had a edu license but never used it. Gonna give it a go. Thanks for reminding me!
>>
>>662361

Jesus christ, let's be honest here. Virtually nobody pay for Max/Maya for home usage.

Enjoy bloatware and slight OS slowdown afrer installing autodesk software
>>
>>662663
That's an issue that solves itself after a while, once you get money and buy a better computer. This is not an option with Blender -- right now you may have better performance, but in a couple of years you won't, and you won't have any money to upgrade your computer.

Choose wisely, choose Autodesk.
>>
>>662361

Even though its in beta (and some crashes) start with 2.80 yes.

2.79 and below is a total assfuck to learn and backwards everything and is a a waste of time.

2.80 makes blender actually close to a functional 3d program. Shame they couldn't have done this UI /design overhaul years ago.
>>
>>662694
new UI is shite imo
>>
>>662663

Bloatware? No. Pro software that includes stuff people clients need for their jobs. I have both Maya and Max installed and I didn't notice any slowdown. Go tell your lies somewhere else comrade (((Rosenthal))) erm I mean Roosendaal.
>>
>>662663

Typical broke blendie who thinks barely 10 gb of software is heavy for his shit tier hard drive already chock full of waifus.
>>
>>662369
Why do that when you can just pirate.

Besides, you can at least own your models if you do. Autodesk owns everything you do if you get the education license for god knows what reasoning.
>>
>>662725
That's false. Stop spreading bullshit.
>>
>>662725
Nice "info" you picked up from a Blender "Guru" video.
>>
>>662725
This is 4d chess trying to make blendlets look bad
>>

>bloatware

Why are you even alive?
>>
>>662370
>and worry about paying for it when your skills are paying you.
You simply cannot risk reaching that point alone using exclusively maya. If Autodesk chooses you to make an example of, your life is effectively over in debtor's prison. Maya's for the industrial career path; if you never intend on being in a situation where your employer covers the cost at some point in your life, then it's simply not an option as an entry-level career path.
>>
>>662361
no, it's not the industry standard software

saged
>>
>>662361
If you haven't maxed the potential of Blender, you shouldn't even consider other software.
>>
>>662369
>>662370
explain to me why I would want to use maya or autodesk or whatever.
What do they offer that blender doesn't?
>>
>>663168
The limitations of Blender are there within a few weeks of using it. For example, the horrible UV editor is something newbies will run into quite soon. If you've never stepped outside of Blender you will never know what you're missing.

There is a massive why Blender sucks thread directly below this one. Go read it instead.

This advice applies to anyone posting in this thread.

it applies to anyone whom believes you dumb ass.
literally just shut the fuck up with your stupid heckler software wars

Keep shitposting, lowercase.

Blender is good for making porn
>>
>>663498
Maya is better for making porn
>>
>>663502
we won't feed your anger
>>
>>663502
it definitely is but 3dporn is made by people who cannot into maya so blender is supreme
>>
>>663508
Just imagine the kind of porn that must be done off-hours at Pixar. I wish I could have a peek.

>tfw so used to the older UI that the new one trips me up constantly
>>
>>663517
yeah lol I'd like to see porn made by actual professional animators instead of amateurs
sadly I don't think this will ever happen even if they put it under anonymous every major name has their own distinct style and it doesn't matter what name they use, others will instantly recognize who made this performance
and with community infested with nofunallowed faggots, this animator is instantly roast and lose career guaranteed

It's true, I own Maya and a Skuddbutt model. Whenever I open it in my copy of Maya, this keeps popping up.

That's why I'm saying pirate Maya. That way anything you create doesn't get slapped with this retardation.
>>
>>662369
Does that only work for Universities only? I take courses at a training center and i was told that it didn't matter. And they use student licenses as well.
>>
>>663618
I had a CODEX for Maya 2018 some time ago but i don't even remember if that works anymore, i did get 3DS Max 2016 this way though.
>>
>>663618
No, it's not true. That Skuddbutt's model is his, regardless of it being made with the Educational license. But he agreed to not distribute it for commercial purposes -- as long as that is satisfied, he can do with it as he pleases.

((Besides, you can easily edit the .ma file to remove that notice. Though this would be in violation of the license, of course.))
>>
>>663644
But he makes money off a Patreon. Pretty sure that counts as commercial.

Either way, it's easier to just pirate the damn software.
>>
>>663651
Yeah, I'm not debating whether he abides by the license, just pointing out that by using the Educational version no one is giving Autodesk the ownership of their work.
>>
>>663618
You literally just have to open the .ma with notepad, delete one line at the top, and save it.
>>
>>663473
>There is a massive why Blender sucks thread directly below this one. Go read it instead.
Something something industry, something something python custom GUI
This really doesn't answer my question it just sounds like subjective taste.
>>
lads, do MtoA patches get rolled out to educational maya licenses as soon as they happen or are you stuck waiting for point releases of Maya?
>>
OP here. please stop commenting. Im sure both programs have their merits (Maya having slightly more), but leave the blender stuff on that one blender thread.
