Sup /3/, I was wondering if you guys have any new years resolutions? Not only 3DCG related, but any at all?

Share them here!

To start learning to model and animate in blender
Also to get swole
>>
>>659026
Dedicating more time to learn.
Do you have any, OP?
>>
Model at least 10 guns in january
>>
>>659026
Learn blender 2.8 and import models to unreal engine focus sciviz or archviz instead of games.
>>
>>659026
Sell my first 3d models, gain more experience in the cg field while balancing with my phone sales job.

Happy new year /3/
>>
To put up a good number of quality assets for sale, make a decent portfolio, and hopefully manage to start earning some money with my 3DCG skills.
>>
I'm doing a job application right now
I'm gonna make it, friends. 2019 is a year of new beginnings.
>>
>>659026

Work on improving my shading and lighting with Eevee and Cycles so that my models can look presentable.
>>
>>659026
Yeah, I think 8k will be up and coming in 2019.
I'll start making things at that resolution.
>>
I'm going to open up blender and actually make a model.
>>
Probably write a book or something, iunno.
In terms of 3DCG, learn proper anatomy and sculpting techniques. Year-end goal is to sculpt waifu.
In terms of /3/, keep our generals goin' and make better collages.

Happy New Year, /3/. Even though all you guys do is constantly argue and bitch at each other, I still love ya all. Here's to a less shitty 2019.
>>
>>659053
I have barely reached HD yet.
I can't imagine working in these resolutions.
>>
>>659026
I'll try to change to PBR which I still know nothing about.
>>
>>659079
It's a resolution joke.
"New Year's Resolution", so this year I'm going to pick 8k as a resolution.
Ba dum tsssssh.

That being said, you can work in whatever resolution you want, it's just based on how much time you want to spend on rendering. With realtime rendering though, 8k isn't really that bad. I can get a modest scene rendered out in about 4 seconds with a realtime setup. Most of the waiting is getting geometry to sync. The actual output takes significantly less.
I'm not really going to work in 8k, but I do think it'd be fun to try out 360 rendering for VR videos. Could be cool.

PBR isn't as complex as it really seems.
Diffuse for color
Roughness for how reflective something is
Metalness for how metal something is \m/
Normals for some displacement

It's just a matter of plugging things in. Get some maps and play around. Start paying attention to objects irl and you can kind of get a sense of how each of the textures would look if you put them in a 3d program.
>>
>>659080
PBR actually simplifies everything, and makes you an industry compatible Blendlet.

>Metalness for how metal something is \m/
How does this translate to real world surfaces? How metal is a roughcast wall or old wood flooring?
>>
I want to do sculpt January. I have no art background so I want to improve. Problem is that I am going to be so hung over tomorrow, that I don't know if I am able to produce anything.
>>
>>659102
Download some good quality PBR texture packs, see the textures, assess the information and understand how darks/lights affect shading.
>>
>>659102
A metallic map just determines where exposed metal on your texture is. So a roughcast wall or old wood flooring would have a completely black metallic map (white is metal, black is not). Something like a painted metal material would be different, where the paint has peeled would be white, otherwise it'd just be black.
>>
>>659026
I'm going to have hand made a decent 3d model of my autismo oc waifu project
>>
>>659032
Oh yeah, a bunch. The main one related to 3D is that I will learn sculpting, cuz I've been box modeling everything till now.
Also I'm trying to get back to drawing (I've kinda abandonned it last year, even though I was making some progress).
And on top of that I have a huge backlog of vidya to play... And of course I have to balance all that with work/life/etc...
So it might be though, but I'll try my best.
Good luck to all of you guys with fulfilling your resolutions! ;]

Is the wall metal? It's got a metallic map.
How metal (painted, exposed, etc)? Plug a value from black-white 0-1 for how metal it is.
How much of it is metal, and how metal? This is what the map does. Maybe you have a painted robot, and some of the paint has come off to show the metal underneath. Let's say it's 100% metal, and no roughness the Metalness map would say "hey, there's metal here. Looks like it's some super smooth chrome shit".

Wood is wood, it's not metal, so you wouldn't need to plug a map into it. A plaster or drywall wall isn't metal, doesn't need a map.
An iron hammer is metal, so it would need a map.

Generally you won't have to worry about it unless you're dealing with metal. There's only fringe cases where you'd apply a bit of metalness to get a certain effect. A slight bit on water for example gives it a more convincing look.

Get swole
Get gf
Finish my current project and then make high quality fetish porn.

Make my game finally, and publish it by December 2019.

The worldbuilding, gameplay, visual style, etc. are coming together and I'm keeping them all manageable. I just have to make a few key design decisions and then I'm going to work up a vertical slice. This article https://godotengine.org/article/how-actually-make-your-dream-game is really inspiring and I keep coming back to it.

Don't let your dreams be dreams, fellow anons.

>work at studio sculpting and casting miniatures
>shit shuts down due to owner's drinking problem
>have to get new job
>end up becoming head of autocad/cam department at a cnc shop
>pays well but it's soul sucking
>know a sculptor at forge world whos been teaching me to sculpt
>need to learn to 3d sculpt and start producing my own stuff
My old friends who are expert resin casters and know a thing or two about 3d printers are working at gas stations and call centers. I want to see them again every day not just once a month. I want to give them work in a place that they know and enjoy. I'm going to try to give them that in 2019. I just have to practice every day until i'm good enough. We still have the printers and casting equipment. The only thing holding it up is the lack of a good sculpter.

Wait waht?
Do you know how to scuplt analog? If so start sculpting and make kickstarter/indiegogo especially if you already have the equipment. Do something in the 54mm range so you can just one and done, instead of a million minis. Use profits to fund digital learning.

I've thought about that and i can sculpt a bust pretty easily but most minis are in the 28mm scale and i hate doing that with clay. And if the master gets fucked up in the mold it's heartbreaking. There are cool figures i've made that have been annihalated by the vulcanizer with no mold to show for it. 3d sculpting is a lot more forgiving in that respect. It's also a lot more versatile. If i want to sell a 28mm and 54mm its a matter of the computer scaling it up or down so i don't have to sculpt a whole new figure. Mostly what i want is the flexibility that comes with 3d.
