What is the absolute best maya beginner tutorial for someone that knows nothing about 3d. How long a day should I be watching/learning?
Try Gnomon introduction to Maya
>>655166I'll look into this thanks
>>655129>How long a day should I be watching/learning?3 hours a day minimumand as much as you can if you are able to
>>655129Blender 3D: Noob to Pro
>>657010Can you blendlets read? OP isn't a stupid fuck who wants to waste his time using shitty blender.
>>655129Pluralsight's maya fundamentalsProfessional Tips for Modeling Complex ShapesThese are basic ones. After that you can branch out into whatever interest you.
>>655129the best best one is the gnomon workshop tut
>>655129whats wrong with blender exactlyam new
>>657425The ((((((industry))))))) doesn't like it
>>657425It's lacking in so many aspects. Bad UV tools, bad retopo tools, bad compatibility with game engines, animation sucks, it's so rough in almost every aspect that blendlets have to rely on third party addons to make it better. And then, they try to shove their software down everyone's throats and sell it as the second coming of jesus christ. If these devs decided to stop developping these addons, blendlets would be screwed. So what's wrong with blender? It's rough and lacking, but it can be as bad as it wants since it's free. What's REALLY wrong about blender is it's delusional userbase who, for the most part, don't have the required skill level to need Maya's complex and advanced tools.
>>657455blender is god tier, you just suck at it. If you want to see someone whos actually good at it look up Gleb Alexandrov
>>655129Gnomon or Lynda introduction to MayaGreat pick btw, it's the most commonly used software by movies and games companies
>>657425rendering is particularly atrocious and uses tricks from the 90s to achieve any sort of "realism" instead of actual physically-based principles
>>657455>What's REALLY wrong about blender is it's delusional userbase who, for the most part, don't have the required skill level to need Maya's complex and advanced tools.100% accurate
>>657458Please stop anon. Every renderer in existence uses some form of approximation and what people call "physical based rendering" is mostly a hacky joke. While the general idea is good, the implementation across the board is fucking awful.
>>657460Spoken like a true blendletI'll take a 99.9% accurate solution over the cheap "filmic" preset bullshit tricks any day
>>657461I never touched blender. I came to Maya after years of XSI. My argument stands; even top-tier renderers have to use some form of approximation.
>>657464top tier isnt god tier
>>657467>moving the goalpost
>>657473>never touched blender>stuck on top tier, not even approaching god tierhahahahahahahahaha that guy put his (your?) foot in their mouth anon
>>657477Blender is shit tier. Wake up blendlet, you'd know if you used any other software more than 15 minutes.
>>657456I know who he is, he's der blendie. And no, blender isn't god tier. I already told you why. Most of the advanced features you need to reach 100% (or even 80%) are missing and/or not officially supported.
>>657461Do you even know what you're talking about? "Filmic" is a look, it doesn't change the render output, only the way you see it. And you can apply it outside of Blender through OCIO.Plus, as others said, even unbiased render engines are not 99.9% accurate. They all take shortcuts, otherwise you wouldn't be able to render in reasonable timeframes.
>>655129>What is the absolute best maya beginner tutorialOne that teaches you how to use the interface and navigate around the viewport. Then you look up a tutorial specific to what you want to make. If you don't know what you want to make yet, then it's not wise to just look up tutorials at random.>How long a day should I be watching/learning?As much as you can stomach. That could be just a few minutes or a few hours. It's good to do something in-software every day though, no matter how small. Reddit has a nice daily 3D challenge based around a theme that's good for getting feedback and practice.
>>655129when you cant figure something out tutorial for it. let tutorials become your main form of content. save the ones you dont grasp but want to get back to, replay the ones you understood before doing it yourself. and having 2 monitors will speed up your flow 100 times over.
>>657492That still doesn't change the fact that Cycles is a bottom tier render, slightly above C4d's and Lightwaves internal render. Arnold, Renderman, Vray, Octane, Redshift wipe the floor with it in terms of functionality and end result. >>657456Gleb never did a proper animation in his whole life. You are comparing apples to oranges. Every fucking Hollywood (and non-hollywood) movie is choke full of animations made in Maya, Blender is absent in this market because even if you are a god with it, it doesn't reach the level of quality needed for doing real business with it.
