How can Warner get away with this?

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

For real though, why do studios always think to go realistic whenever live action is involved? As much as I dislike it when live action and animation is blended, I'd really love to see a studio try this sorta thing but with Zootopia-style (or any other recent animated anthro movies) character designs for their otherworldly counterparts. I wonder how it'd work out.
>>
not trying to nitpick, just curious. are the irises fucking lowpoly? kinda looks edgy as fuck.
>>
>>649966
>think to go realistic whenever live action is involved?
because the vast majority thinks it's "sooo coool" and that's what's counts. they don't care about the whole uncanny valley thing.
>>
>>649966
The scene probably isn't final and there might even be a whole year before the movie is release for all we know. Quit nitpicking!
>>
>>649972
>there might even be a whole year
Nah, confirmed release date of May 11 next year. No time to backpedal and "fix scenes". When have trailers ever showcased non-final scenes anyway? At least in the recent years.
>>
>>649970
Pretty sure they're octagons
>>
What on fucking earth is the point of the dodgeball texture on the shoulders? Is it actually meant to be anything? Is it really just "SURFACE DETAIL, YAAAAY"?
>>
>>649994
tongue in cheek solution for more detail, yes.
>>
>>649966
Thing is though, Zootopia still tried to maintain a sense of Photorealism despite its overtly cartoon-y nature.

It's just how this industry works, unfortunately. And attempting more cartoon-y Pokemon in CG and putting them in Live action makes it weird-looking too.
>>
>>649974
The CG always gets worked on until they need to have the final cut ready to send out. Trailers rarely ever display the final CG, but most normies don't notice. It's only us with our autism who notice.

That's totally irrelevant to the stylistic choices made for that movie, which are settled and have been for a while now

They should have gone Who Framed Roger Rabbit on this one

Because it's easier to go full generic photorealism than it is to come up with a proper design that fits in the world presented.

Honestly I think they went for the uncanny valley realism to add to the ridiculousness of realistic Pokemon. It adds to the humor.

I mean, I'm thinking why not just hamfist it? Just drag n' drop Judy Hopps into the real world or whatever. They did that in 2D back in 1988 with Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and it worked out pretty well.
>>
They should've just gone with the Pokken style.
>>
>>649964
their problem is not any technical shortcoming or cheap production values, but lack of good taste and aesthetics. typical western art

I would have been fine with them looking like that.
Or at least not as furry as they are now. Jesus fuck, it reminds me of Pokemon Apokelypse. That shitty, "edgy" Pokemon fan film.

The major problem here is they kept the models cartoony then applied realistic textures. It just feels wrong and in some cases a little disgusting. They should have either kept the designs but made the textures more cartoony and gone for a Roger Rabbit look (which they kind of already have) or changed up the Pokemon designs to be more realistic in line with the kind of fan-art people have produced for decades. Instead we are stuck in the middle.
>>
You all fail to realize that this is exactly the twisted kind of world they where going for. And its working perfectly as intended.

Youre all complaining about looks but dont find it odd that theres a fucking talking pikachu who calls himself a detective?
>>
>>650186
Pointing out a problem doesn't negate the others

We haven't talked about the fact that Pikachu is voiced by fucking Deadpool, which fits even less than the visual style

Its the same concept as who framed roger rabbit. This is exactly what they are going for.

They did a really good job with the realism in this pokemon thing. The problem is that when you do it with a 2D cartoon character with a simplified design, it ends up looking like an overly detailed artisanal plushie

When I see stills I oscillate between simply liking the designs and being extremely unsettled. It straddles the uncanny in a really poweful way. I love it- this actually reminds me of the weirdness of the mario bros film. I feel like both make truly

People saying muh Roger Wabbit, Pokemon are PART of this world, not some toon world like in WFRR. They are not cartoon animals, they are living mutant creatures, Pocket Monsters.

It's like crying over TMNT being realistic in like 7/10th of the medias they are portrayed in.
>>
>>650154
Westerners don't eat this shit up, they want to appeal to the harry potter and star wars crew, and for that, you need hair and fur and realistic shaders, if not, it is too kiddy and childish, even if Pokemon is already for kids.

Since this may be the most related thread. They sure come off as arrogant
Sony states that the innovations of the film “go beyond stylistic originality or envelope-pushing success and qualify as a distinctly new invention.”

It's not just stylized you guys, it goes beyond everything you have seen so far.
>DISTINCLY NEW INVENTION
>>
>>656880
In their defense, it really is incredible and unique. It's quite a blend of styles, building off a typical "photorealistic" base by throwing an insanely vivid colour palette among many toon post-processing effects. Even just the usage of aberration as defocusing is something new. I got to see the film recently and it's a visual feast from start to finish.
But... Sony Pictures is known to be pretty scummy anyways. Can't believe they've planned so many sequels for this film already. Really goes to show they're in it for the money and not much else. It's a miracle the art team was allowed to express themselves to such a wild extent.
>>
>>656890
It's obviously incredible as technical feat regarding shading and compositing, but to what end? Aesthetically it's utter crap.
>>
>>656973
Beauty in the eye of the beholder. I personally found it really freakin' good looking, even if it's a lurid cacophony of colours at points. That's the consensus you'd find all over the place too, so I'd say it worked out pretty well.
>>

YOU EAT YOUR WORDS! That voice is an absolute gem.

>>
>>650154
what i dont like with this is that its not well integrated on the lighting, the shaders are nice but fucking hell its so plain, may as well but some fucking ambient occlusion and be done with it
>>
>>656890
>Can't believe they've planned so many sequels for this film already.
Why? They wanted to make an Amazing Spiderman cinematic universe, and when that failed they wanted to make a Homecoming cinematic universe, and when they weren't allowed to do that they wanted to make a Venom cinematic universe and pull out of the Disney deal. And, I should remind you, ALL OF THESE INVOLVED THE SAME MOVIES; particularly Pascall's pet project, a feminist superhero teamup movie featuring all of the prominent female spiderman characters originally titled "Glass Ceilings". Those fuckers are desperate for the MCU audience.
