How can Warner get away with this?
>those scratches on the horns>that checkered cloth texture on the shoulders>the freckles and moles on the face>that realistic skin shader>the fucking hairs on the headAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAFor real though, why do studios always think to go realistic whenever live action is involved? As much as I dislike it when live action and animation is blended, I'd really love to see a studio try this sorta thing but with Zootopia-style (or any other recent animated anthro movies) character designs for their otherworldly counterparts. I wonder how it'd work out.
not trying to nitpick, just curious. are the irises fucking lowpoly? kinda looks edgy as fuck.
>>649966>think to go realistic whenever live action is involved?because the vast majority thinks it's "sooo coool" and that's what's counts. they don't care about the whole uncanny valley thing.
>>649966The scene probably isn't final and there might even be a whole year before the movie is release for all we know. Quit nitpicking!
>>649972>there might even be a whole yearNah, confirmed release date of May 11 next year. No time to backpedal and "fix scenes". When have trailers ever showcased non-final scenes anyway? At least in the recent years.
>>649970Pretty sure they're octagons
What on fucking earth is the point of the dodgeball texture on the shoulders? Is it actually meant to be anything? Is it really just "SURFACE DETAIL, YAAAAY"?
>>649994tongue in cheek solution for more detail, yes.
>>649966Thing is though, Zootopia still tried to maintain a sense of Photorealism despite its overtly cartoon-y nature. It's just how this industry works, unfortunately. And attempting more cartoon-y Pokemon in CG and putting them in Live action makes it weird-looking too.
>>649974The CG always gets worked on until they need to have the final cut ready to send out. Trailers rarely ever display the final CG, but most normies don't notice. It's only us with our autism who notice.
>>649972>The scene probably isn't finalThat's totally irrelevant to the stylistic choices made for that movie, which are settled and have been for a while now
>>649964They should have gone Who Framed Roger Rabbit on this one
>>649966Because it's easier to go full generic photorealism than it is to come up with a proper design that fits in the world presented.
Honestly I think they went for the uncanny valley realism to add to the ridiculousness of realistic Pokemon. It adds to the humor.
>>650117I like the aesthetic desu
>>650086>And attempting more cartoon-y Pokemon in CG and putting them in Live action makes it weird-looking too.>>650120>Because it's easier to go full generic photorealism than it is to come up with a proper design that fits in the world presented.I mean, I'm thinking why not just hamfist it? Just drag n' drop Judy Hopps into the real world or whatever. They did that in 2D back in 1988 with Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and it worked out pretty well.
They should've just gone with the Pokken style.
>>649964their problem is not any technical shortcoming or cheap production values, but lack of good taste and aesthetics. typical western art
>>650145>a fucking pokemon clone does this in one of their movies
>>650154THISif the chinese can do it, why hollywood with x10000 the budget can't?
>>650159This movie is not being marketed to small children.
>>650154I would have been fine with them looking like that.Or at least not as furry as they are now. Jesus fuck, it reminds me of Pokemon Apokelypse. That shitty, "edgy" Pokemon fan film.
>>650154this actually looks way more interesting and less creepy
I played with his shoulders in p.e. lmao
I like it
The major problem here is they kept the models cartoony then applied realistic textures. It just feels wrong and in some cases a little disgusting. They should have either kept the designs but made the textures more cartoony and gone for a Roger Rabbit look (which they kind of already have) or changed up the Pokemon designs to be more realistic in line with the kind of fan-art people have produced for decades. Instead we are stuck in the middle.
You all fail to realize that this is exactly the twisted kind of world they where going for. And its working perfectly as intended.Youre all complaining about looks but dont find it odd that theres a fucking talking pikachu who calls himself a detective?
>>650186Pointing out a problem doesn't negate the othersWe haven't talked about the fact that Pikachu is voiced by fucking Deadpool, which fits even less than the visual style
>>650187Fits better than the Detective Pikachu voice from the game
I still can't get over the fact that its shoulders are dodgeballs.
Those aren't supposed to be horns. They're supposed to be hair in the original art. It's fucking retarded.
>>650187no im pointing out another surreal element of the whole trailer.Nothing here is supposed to make much senseIts the same concept as who framed roger rabbit. This is exactly what they are going for.
>>649966>tfw Rocky and Bullwinkle from 2000 is a more aesthetically pleasing mix of CG cartoon and live actionThey did a really good job with the realism in this pokemon thing. The problem is that when you do it with a 2D cartoon character with a simplified design, it ends up looking like an overly detailed artisanal plushie
>>650146>typical western artikr?
>>649964I always thought mr.mime was modeled after this guy.
>>650272>imagine being a 60 years old DnB MC and still on stage
>>649964Enjoy being in the minority
>>650308the minority with a voice is the only thing that counts
>>650317>the pressing issues of today
>>649964i kinda like it for because how funny it is, ever seen those drawing where a pokemon gets drawn disgustingly realistic? it looks like the artists made one these as a joke for his artstation or deviantart but it got put in a movie
>>650191Actually (ignore the mom stuff that was just vandalism)
>>650183just me or is it not very good integrated into the movie
>>650447(cont) looks like someone put a sticker of pikachu on the screen
>>650447I think it looks fine. Plus, trailers never show final CG. I'm sure they'll be more polish on the theatrical
>>650482>unironically believing this
>>650648>I suck cocks
>>650698Good, /lgbt is that way ↑
>>649966>cloththose look like balls typically used in dodgeball
>>650445Soemone who made viral "realistic" fanart was actually a concept artist on this movie
>>649964ITS MR MIME
>>650154the only non retard way to do it.
>>650183>>650415I dunno it looks pretty cute for me
>>649964that cgi looks rather dated
>>649964this is how Hepatitis C looks like...
>>649964why did they make him look like mr. toad
>>650446They edited it to match with the trailers, they changed jigglypuff from having rubbery, balloon like skin to really soft and cotton candy like for example
>>649964When I see stills I oscillate between simply liking the designs and being extremely unsettled. It straddles the uncanny in a really poweful way. I love it- this actually reminds me of the weirdness of the mario bros film. I feel like both make truly audacious production choices. 100% wanna see this film
>>650446>marrying its motherwhat
>>650120Yeah. Looney Tunes: Back in Action was pretty neat.
>>649994Isn't that what low poly spheres look like in zbrush?
>>651885Not really. There are clear modulations here, probably to indicate a thread-like substance. The low poly spheres are because of the normals.
>>650190>its shoulders are dodgeballsWITH MOLDED SEAMS
>>649966For the same the entire world praises 2D art that tries to mimic the real world as much as possible but only few like stylized stuff and take it seriously
People saying muh Roger Wabbit, Pokemon are PART of this world, not some toon world like in WFRR. They are not cartoon animals, they are living mutant creatures, Pocket Monsters. It's like crying over TMNT being realistic in like 7/10th of the medias they are portrayed in.
>>650154Westerners don't eat this shit up, they want to appeal to the harry potter and star wars crew, and for that, you need hair and fur and realistic shaders, if not, it is too kiddy and childish, even if Pokemon is already for kids.
>>650183they did Pikachu first, thought it looked good, then did the rest and only afterwards did they realize what a massive mistake they made.
>>650183GODDAMMIT IS IT FUCKING DOING THAT STUPID ONE BROW DOWN ONE UP SNARKY POSE FFS AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>>649964le realism meme

>>650116a coworker told me its wayy harder to do this kind of style. Some lead tech guy for that film wrote a vfx bible that others swear by
>>655313lazy texture artists
>>649964Sonic movie is definitely going to look even worse than that, pic related.>>650154I think that style works much better
https://80.lv/articles/sony-wants-patents-for-the-spider-verses-unique-style/Since this may be the most related thread. They sure come off as arrogantSony states that the innovations of the film “go beyond stylistic originality or envelope-pushing success and qualify as a distinctly new invention.”It's not just stylized you guys, it goes beyond everything you have seen so far.>DISTINCLY NEW INVENTION
>>656880In their defense, it really is incredible and unique. It's quite a blend of styles, building off a typical "photorealistic" base by throwing an insanely vivid colour palette among many toon post-processing effects. Even just the usage of aberration as defocusing is something new. I got to see the film recently and it's a visual feast from start to finish.But... Sony Pictures is known to be pretty scummy anyways. Can't believe they've planned so many sequels for this film already. Really goes to show they're in it for the money and not much else. It's a miracle the art team was allowed to express themselves to such a wild extent.
>>656890It's obviously incredible as technical feat regarding shading and compositing, but to what end? Aesthetically it's utter crap.
>>656973Beauty in the eye of the beholder. I personally found it really freakin' good looking, even if it's a lurid cacophony of colours at points. That's the consensus you'd find all over the place too, so I'd say it worked out pretty well.
>>650189YOU EAT YOUR WORDS! That voice is an absolute gem.
>>656890Still doesn't justify patenting.
>>650154what i dont like with this is that its not well integrated on the lighting, the shaders are nice but fucking hell its so plain, may as well but some fucking ambient occlusion and be done with it
>>656890>Can't believe they've planned so many sequels for this film already. Why? They wanted to make an Amazing Spiderman cinematic universe, and when that failed they wanted to make a Homecoming cinematic universe, and when they weren't allowed to do that they wanted to make a Venom cinematic universe and pull out of the Disney deal. And, I should remind you, ALL OF THESE INVOLVED THE SAME MOVIES; particularly Pascall's pet project, a feminist superhero teamup movie featuring all of the prominent female spiderman characters originally titled "Glass Ceilings". Those fuckers are desperate for the MCU audience.
>>650482if anything there will be less polish
>>650446>that second paragraphWhat the fuck lmao
>>650447>>650448It's because of the blue light covering his whole silhoutte
>>649971If the vast majority didn't care about the uncanny valley, there wouldn't be an uncanny valley.
>>662113Didn't see that before. Looks like some dumb roastie single mother desperately looking to fantasy to get out of her poor life choices.
>>649964Are those dodgeballs?
>>662975tfw there are literally women with a mr. mime fetish out there right now on the same planet as us
tha fuck was that
