Please, for the love of God name your shit that makes sense. Name everything you make, never name anything with "FINAL" at the end of the project name. Allocate all assets in one folder for each kind (audio/images/documents/etc)
>he can't work with files named osudhgnkjn.project/killmeplease.png/fuck.jpgGrow up.
>>643722That's my job security tho
>>643722i name my shiet because i have horrible memory, ive done what your worker did, FINAL_FINAL_3.ae
>>643728Respectfully, shove it up your ass.
>>643722As long as he is there it's enough if the naming scheme works for him. Why would he care if it still works when he is gone? Are they going to keep paying him?
>>643729> FINAL_FINAL_3.aehahaha this is so on point ))) last_final_I swear 14I do this, but only on personal projects. if it is in work envoirment, not naming shit should be penalised...
>>643752As long as he is there it's enough if the bridge holds. Why would he care if it still holds when he is gone? Are they going to keep paying him?
>>643769Maybe you should learn how tohold a bridge if youre this stupid
>>643801Are you retarded?
>>643722wat is a naming convention? Derp
>>643802>cant deal with filenamesAre you?
>>643801Isn't the whole point of a group production keeping things organized so everyone can work faster? If you can't understand this concept you either have never worked on a group project or you are retarded
>>643815That's not the point at all.
>>643722You don't need to tell me, I'm super autistically anal about naming and organizing projects since the early 90s, to the point of being pedantic.
>>643832I salute you. That's the right attitude when working in a team, and even if you do it for yourself only, kudos. Easier maintenance is the most important benefit, and a lot of people don't realize it/don't care. Sadly.
>>643832Thank fuck. There's nothing worse than having to return to an old file after a while or to reuse something of it and you have no idea what is what because at the time you knew what everything was.
you did right man.there is a difference between basic naming, and not naming things at all.i don't name objects often as i should, but i do at least name materials and things that could be confusing when i re-open the file later.my program also has a built in text editor so i write down the order of things if it involves animation or anything like that
That's what I do already, it just satisfies my autism to organize things. Fucking neanderthal sociopath NPC normgroids need gassed.
>>643722Is it okay if I just name it "ExampleProject_1"And have each iteration/revision after that named the next sequential number?"ExampleProject_2" ... "ExampleProject_38"
>>643884That's okay, unless you have a version control system in place, like Perforce or Git. In that case, you rely on it instead.
Welcome to the real world, jackass
>>643903More like the plebs' world, pajeet.
I'm a video editor and the lazy sloppy shit I've seen has left me jaded and hateful
>>643841This is where my file naming mantra germinated, "treat future you kindly"
>>643722My naming scheme is pretty simple.[descriptive] [id: letter] [version: number]So you have "skin a 1" for a woman or "skin c 13" for a man. That ways you can easily know which version is the last. It works well enough.I do not use "Final": i.e you can always assume the last numbered version is the final one.
>>643910Solid. I do a similar scheme, [project name].[description][variant]_[iteration].project. I like avoiding "final" in the file name as well, I usually nest finalised projects in a "Final" folder in the project folder.
12456124\12351\61512.dds is a perfectly legit naming conventionyou girls have a memory of a goldfish
Anyone who uses final in their naming scheme hasn't worked long enough or hasn't learned their fucking lesson. FINAL is a cursed word and will ensure your project will come back to haunt you. Avoid at all costs.
I just started working at a big commercial company, and I had to redo some stuff from another art director. It took me about an hour just to sort it all out. It was a fucking mess, and I'm the new guy. It took longer to understand what all the precomps did, than actually fixing the small issue.
>>64394610:1 says half those precomps weren't even needed. People who use excessive precomps are a blight
