just made my first render. thoughts? anything i could do to improve it?

Something needs to be done about the Blender problem.

Yes

Maybe get some nice scanned doughnuts or something or crack agisoft photoscan and do it yourself.

Or, even better, make your own doughnut shader and doughnut glaze shader in substance designer scatter some crumbs, paint some grease stains on the plate in Sub painter, build a random sprinkle generator asset in Houdini, fill the cup with some coffee and make it steam up, maybe get a newspaper in there, a spoon, some nice granulated sugar cubes, of course one in the form of a classic utah teapot

Use your imagination, there's so much more fun to be had with this. Set dressing is what it lacks.

Someone's been watching Blender Guru. You need a higher sample count, it'd reduce the noise.

Blender problem?

It's more of an "I'm special and deserve my own thread rather than using the generals" problem imo. Unironically this is something which plebbit actually gets right - you can display a message to users when they try to post a new thread telling them to stop being a spastic and then just ban then or delete their post if they ignore the rules. If people won't use the catalog or the generals then I'm sure they won't read the sticky either.

Come on now, you really expect him to know how to pirate ALL of those programs?
>>

More grain than a bowl of cereal
>>

>lol, OP didn't pirate the software, that means he doesn't even know how to
>Only people who are against pirating software use Blender
FYI you can get 3D Max free if you are a student or lie about being a student.

Yeah thats true, same with maya! Houdini is also free but they limit what you can export. Sub painter and designer are cheap, mari is also free if you can handle using only 6 udim tiles. Lots of stuff to be gotten and experimented with, just dont be lazy/a faggot

>Sub painter and designer are cheap
I just realized that a Houdini Indie subscription is cheaper than Substance. Fuck.

this is the only post that has any value in this thread. thank you

also this.

You can do texture authoring with houdini if you really try. Cops and matnets de are amazingly capable, and there's also the option of porting an image to vertex color and manipulating it with VEX.
>>
>>637163
That's true but it's like trying to rig a character in Blender. You can get a cheap imitation finished with time and effort but paying for the real deal is definitely worth it.

This is very well done for your first time.
Nice job, OP!
>>
Looks like it came out of toy story 1
>>
>>637167
Yeah, never said that's not the case. You're right. Don't discredit matnets though, they have their own place and can be amazing in the right hands provided your willing to deal with mantra, the snail renderer.

I love the mug. The icing looks like it's painted on and the donut has the complexion of a 3 year old. Give it some bump and colour variation.
Good for first render.

It really looks plastic... Andrew made another tutorial about organic food:

It isn't even rendered, noise reveals it to be pre-rendered preview.

The difference between a plastic doughnut and organic doughnuts is that latter is:
-bumpy
-gradient
>>
For a first render not bad, but to make it way better - really easy -

Check your roughness values, glaze is more shiny, i would add a normal map to it, (see if you can find a "calm water" normal map) would give some nice variation is the glaze, add a bumb-map/displacement for the dough, imperfect makes real.

- Add crumps on the plate, could be in the texture with displacement if you are lazy,

lastly, add some coffee stains on the cup
