unless you are doing animation or sim, or working in automotive, no one gives a single fuck what modeling suite you use as long as you can model to the same quality and speed, and export and receive the same file types.

rigging, animation, and sim are hugely pipeline dependent. most modeling ends up being exported to zbrush and substance and then be thrown into an engine or a renderscene anyways.

we've had a few guys who are blender pros, usually independent contractors we bring on for occasional jobs. it doesn't interfere with our pipeline at all

also, small business emplyers love people who can use blender because its one less license they have to pay for. granted the maya licenses arent that bad, but things like alias or catia can be upwards of 50k a seat (im not saying blender can replace a surfacing CAD software, i dont have any frame of reference for that)

as far as i know it can handle obj's and other similar exportables. sure, it cant handle proprietary files like maya or max scene files, but in most scenarios where you are just doing modeling you arent exporting entire scenes anyways, just individual meshs and texture files and stuff.

like i was saying in my post, if you are doing work that involves sim, rigging, animation, or other work that is going straight into the render, then yeah, you dont want to use blender unless you are working in a blender pipeline (which is rare), but if you are just modeling to export to an engine or a secondary program like zbrush, or recieving high poly meshes from zbrush to retopo, then blender will do just fine and no one will give a fuck if you use it (unless you try to give them blend files or blender is causing you to work slow, then its a problem)

Alembic, the importer is purportedly borked, but I don't have an .abc file to check.
OpenVDB at all, which is a major bane as it is stupidly powerful and is being used by all the industry dogs.

Oh yeah, FBX is the only proprietary file format in that list, but Autodesk has SDKs released for it and the Blender Foundation's just a bunch of idiots that don't want to properly integrate it into Blender, rather jury-rigging their own specification.
Alembic is open-source, and OpenVDB has it right in the name.

Unless you have more than one scene, you don't save scenes, you save the blend file.

You make textures outside of blender unless you mean bakes of which you can even set it up to auto export them. Unless you mean you did painting in blender, then never saved the image and then packed it into the file.

Of which hey, thats like saying MAya/3ds should save the render that you didn't save to an image when you close and re-open.

Have you even used Blender? It's the most intuitive user interface I've ever experienced. You just need to keep one hand on the home row and another on the mouse. $30 in paid plugins could put it on par with zBrush, too. Many may claim rigify is buggy, but when you actually know what you're doing it's better than Maya. The Game engine is shit though.
