So, I've finally tried out maya as a blender fag, and I've decided that I'm just going to use it instead, since it's pretty amazing. But I also tested 3ds max, and I have to wonder, why is it still a thing?I'm not that familiar with maya yet, having used it for a week or so now, but my first impressions of 3ds max are that it is just a shitty "clone" of maya, where every tool works a little bit worst than in maya, and where they even managed to add some shitty "features" to make things just that slight bit more annoying (dem camera controls, tho).Am I missing something here? Is 3ds still around just because many studios still use it, or does it have something going for it?
>>626509As a Max user I feel the exact same way about Maya.
modelling wise, maya has been stellar since 2016+Real power of maya is its customizability and extensibility tho. It integrates well into, as perform well as hub of many pipelines.
>>626511To me, looking at changes made to maya and 3ds over the last few years, it looks like autodesk is getting ready to phase out max, since maya has clearly gotten much more love (3ds max doesn't even have a proper curve editor, for fucks sake), and since it can't be very profitable to develop and maintain two directly competing software packages with very identical features.
>>626510What discussion is there to have? Bashing Blender is flogging a dead horse, everybody already knows that it sucks.Everybody, except Blendlets, yes. They don't know, nor wanna know, and will fight the truth until their last breath.Fucking Blendlets, man.
>>626509>>626511as a blender user I feel the exact same way about both Maya and 3ds max.All trying to copy and replace Blender, but it will never happen!
>>626527But this thread's not bashing Blender, it's bashing 3DsMax.You saying there's no difference between the two?
>>626527Don't listen to this guy.
>>626537Nobody is copying Blender. Blender will never keep up as long as it's free. It just does everything worse than Maya. 3DS Max is antiquated trash that was superseded by Maya years ago, and only remains supported because of how many people have been using it for so long.
I’m new and started with Maya, gave Max a shot, much prefer Max.
I started at a vfx studio that primarily uses max. You can just export stuff from maya if you really need to. I think a lot of smaller studios dont care and it makes yourself marketable knowing a little of both. Never tried blender, never seen it used for studios either. Just being honest.
OP here...>>626527>Bashing Blender is flogging a dead horse, everybody already knows that it sucks.Maya is a great tool, and I do think it's better than blender for many reasons, but if you are really going to unironically say blender sucks, I'll just assume you never bothered to use it in the first place.
>>626629>>626511Why don't you give actual reasons as to why you like 3ds over max, instead of going all passive aggressive?
>>626666>I'll just assume you never bothered to use it in the first place.I did; for months, in fact. And it gave me cancer.Thankfully, Maya was the chemo I needed, and I am healthy again.
>>626667No one else did.
>>626509Blender sucks for many things in Modelling but with Maya be prepared for no vertex extrude, shitty bridge tool, shitty fill hole tool, linear workflow.
>>626509>So, I've finally tried out maya as a blender fag, and I've decided that I'm just going to use it instead..t no one ever
>>627424>Blender sucks for many things in Modelling Name one thing?Blender is way better for box modeling than Maya.
