My 14 y.o. wannabe /3/ artist wants me to buy a maya license for her -

do
I
Pirate ?
>>
>>625424
If she tells Autodesk that she's attending any school at all, she can score a student license herself.
>>
>>625426
she has no internet, only math and science and sat studybooks
>>
>>625427
Does the school have internet?
>>
Is it a girl?

srsly use trial first, pirate later if it doesn't lose interest after 1 full month but I doubt it lol
>>
>>625424
Either point her towards Daz and Hexagon to see if this is one of those things that she's super interested in right now but will give up in a week when she learns it's hard, or get her a student license of Maya... you know.... because she's a student.
>>
>>625436
ty anon
>>
>>625424
Dude just start her on Blender
>>
>>625446
Blender is okay. But this is a 14 year old we're talking about. She has a future (probably), start her off on a program that also has a future in the industry.
>>
>>625424

Download the 30 day trial and get a Pluralsight (or CGpeers) membership or some shit. If she doesn't complete one tutorial a week for the next month, then tell her to fuck off.
>>
>>625455
This. Download a bunch of tutorials (delete the included finished projects or move them off her computer), get the free trial, tell her she has to show you the results of her tutorials.
If she doesn't finish them, no buy.

Also you should be pretty much spying on her internet activity, text messaging, and future car use (when she turns 16) so you already know if she's slacking (and how many party blowjobs she's already given out).
>>
>>625434
>it
>>
>>625424
Oh jeeez. Pirate it for fuck's sake.. if the kid will like it, Autodesk will profit after that...
don't give him/her dillemas and shit..
>>
>>625459
>This. Download a bunch of tutorials (delete the included finished projects or move them off her computer), get the free trial, tell her she has to show you the results of her tutorials.
sounds quite hitler-ish
>>
Why are so many people here so fucking retarded? How does this question get asked so often? If you're too much of a pussy to torrent it despite the fact that autodesk don't give a fuck unless you're making bank with it, then just download the student version from their website, and put any institute you want as your school.
>>
>>625521
AD has been known to have "creative" albeit "illegal" anti-piracy methods

a dude I know from my studio - ex employee - claims he got extorted
>>
>>625518
>Where do you think you are?
>>625521
"Whoa, you download movies off the internet? How is your computer like, not full of viruses!?"
>>
>>625453

This. Stay away from Blender unless you want to be a failed artist.
>>
>>625518
I don't remember reading about Hitler deleting tutorials
>>
>>625424
Everyone started of with pirated Maya.

If you can get a student license, that would be perfect, otherwise pirated it is.
>>
Either ya'll are getting baited or playing along. In any case searching OP's image just gave me tons of fapping material.
>>
>>625424
Just download blender for her, she won't be able to tell.
>>
>>625589
No one thought it was op's girl. Also it's basically "How do I use this expensive software?" thread but with a tweest.
>>
New to 4chan. What do I need to do to post?

Stfu
>>
>>625424

If she's serious get her the student license of Maya. DON'T let her learn on Blender if she's wanting to do this as a career. First, Blender has a shit UI that will make her hate learning the software. Second, Blender will fuck you up for learning other software because the way it does things are so ass backwards compared to how other software does things. The most miserable people when I went to school were the ones that learned Blender first because they had the hardest time wrapping their heads around the way the other software works.

If she wants to pursue this as a career then she should learn on the tools the pros use. If she learns Blender then get used to the idea now of her being a NEET living in your basement until you die.

>>
Pirate for 3-4 months.
If your wannabe is still wannabe
Get with a student license .
>>
>>625661
However Maya is what schools want you to learn, c4d is better by a long way, especially when learning basics.
(Have taught both and the unforgiving UI in Maya is woefully poor when compared to maxons baby

age of consent is arbitrary number that has no biological basis whatsoever under it and most of the time age of consent higher than 14 means that your country's govt employs a titular nation culling and replacement program.

>Which program you choose is solely dependent on your own personal taste and which aspect of the 3D industry you want to be involved in.
>7.) "So which program is the easiest to learn?"
>You shouldn't learn a program, you should learn techniques. When you master a technique the program becomes nothing more than a tool. As said before Max and Maya have the most documentation but you should look at learning how to model and the right techniques instead of 'what button does X'.
>You can get UI information from the program's help files. F1 and Google are your friends."
Those people are just retards is all.
The so called "Tools the pros use" didn't exist when the pros themselves were first starting out in 3D. The only that that matters at the end of the day is that you can export to whatever format you need with everything intact or place your shit within your render engine.
>>
>>625681

No he's right. You blendlets are deluded.
>>
>>625684

Not true at all. All serious jobs require Maya/Max knowledge.

I love the free market. It rewards those who learn standard/normie software and punishes those who ride the commie/meme software train.

So you'll do it then? Great!

How the fuck do you plan to pirate Maya without an internet connection?

Whatever the fuck it is you're doing, get her an educational license under a gmail account, pick whatever stupidass school comes up on the list, doesn't have to be true, and download Maya for her.

Then just transfer all that shit to her PC.

This is an awful lot of stupidity you're making yourself go through for your wife's daughter, OP
>>
>>625681
>>625684

He's right tho.
When I went to school I was fucking struggling with Maya, Max and Zbrush because I misspent my teen years fucking around with Blender. The students who had no 3D experience were picking up the program faster than I was with 4 years of Blender experience. I was fucking wishing I'd never downloaded Blender and wasted my time with it when I could have just pirated Maya and been ahead of the class.

I eventually learned to unlearn Blender's way of doing things and caught up with the rest of the class but it was such a struggle after all those years of Blender. I've been working with Maya and Zbrush mostly for the last 5 years but I refuse to open Blender again because I don't want to backslide into that hell. I used to be a hardcore Blender supporter and even donated money once and thought nobody would be using anything but Blender in the future and I'll admit I was wrong. Blender is fine I guess if you're poor and against piracy and never plan to work with any other software other than Blender for the rest of your life but I'd never recommend anyone using Blender as their first 3D software if they have any plans on getting into the industry. I know some people have really choked down the Blender kool-aide but it really is a crap UI that will fuck you up for all other software.
>>
>>625810
I didn't think you could use a gmail account to get an educational license. I thought it had to be a school email account.
>>
>>625824
You learned a program then. You didn't learn techniques. That was your fault.
There are plenty of people who switch from Blender <-> Max <-> Maya all the time. If they don't have any issue doing it, the problem must lie with you.
This is what the sticky warns about. Don't learn programs.
>>
Would not recommend Maya for beginners. Start with something like Blender, C4D or get a student version for 3DS Max.

pretty much it

The torrents I see on piratebay (a whole two if you don't count the < 10 seed no peer ones), at least, have no comments and on top of that have very little seeds/peers. Windows's antivirus now loves to flag keygens, so I don't really trust either of them.
>>

google cgpeers
wait for registrations to open

But just get the legit student version you retard

>>

>because I misspent my teen years fucking around with Blender
Weird. I started with Blender and it took me two weeks (after a few months with Blender) to learn Maya's UI enough to model, animate, and shade/render things. Maybe you were too focused on the interface instead of the principles that... well, are shared by all 3D DCC programs?
>>
>>625825
that's your bias at work. The educational license only asks for demographical information. For the suits.

In reality, Autodesk only cares that they dominate the market and that people don't even think about other alternatives, free or otherwise.

Which I think is an excellent business model
>>
>>625900
It probably took me about 3 or 4 weeks to finally start getting Blender's influence out of my head and to start getting a grasp on Maya and Max's UI which is a huge chunk of a semester and put me weeks behind the students who had virtually no 3D experience when they started the course even though I had a better grasp of the fundamentals of 3D than they did I was tripping over the UIs. I envied the students who had never touched Blender because they didn't have this problem. I eventually caught up with the rest of the class and without bragging felt my works was better than theirs and in some cases my marks showed this, but I'd put quitting Blender almost up there with quitting smoking when it comes to difficult challenges I've faced in life and my advice to young people for both of those vices would be to never start.

Does she also live in basement?
>>
So basically if you want to work with 3D you should never touch blender but if you want to use it as hobby blender works ok.
>>
>>626180
Yep, that's correct. Hobby projects don't usually have the requirements that a professional production does.
>>
>>625427

No matter what software she ends up using she's going to need internet access because there will simply be too many times during the learning process that she'll be bumping up against a brick wall and will need to search for help on the internet. Hell, I'm a professional graphic artists with 18 years experience and I still need to look up solutions on the internet from time to time.

Are you Amish or something? Why the hell don't you let your daughter access the internet? When my kids were 14 they were allowed to access the internet on a computer in the family room and when they were 16 they were allowed to access the internet in private on their own laptops because my wife and I were confident with the job we had done raising them and our kids had proven they had earned our trust. How shitty a job have you done raising your kid that at the age of 14 she hasn't earned enough of your trust to access the internet from a computer in the family room?
>>
>>625691
blender will be the defector industry standard in less than 2 years you buttlikker.. free... free to develop ...free to deploy as u see fit ....autodesk wish they could get a production/development cycle 1 tenth of what blender's is... ask your self this all the blender haters how has one packaged survived for over 20 years being completely free ! MAya lasted 4 years before it got bought out (and is a bit shit imo)
the real reason you say we're deluded is because to are literately too shit scared to think for yourself.... enjoy being reamed by you're "free market" oligarchy
>>
>>626364
yeah free because it's a POS
More likey they will move to Houdini
even the new Lightwave is thousand times better than this amateur shit Blender
But how do you know when you never used anything else than this crap
>>
>>626373
>Houdini
lol i was using max and maya when you were still swimming in your daddy’s sack in fact you can add c4d , poser , fusion 360 , open skad and sketch up.... i admit the first time i used it was 20 years ago and was as lame as you...
now how ever i think its got more to offer than most packages out there combined .... wouldn't even touch houdini ... light wave hahahhh!

>>626364
>>626375
Is this an exaggerated false flag, or just another retarded post from the retarded Blender community?

These days it's become really difficult to tell which is which...
>>
>>626180
Basically. Blender is fine, but you're not going to be able to use it in a professional environment.
So it's better to just not really bother.
>>
>>626375
>wouldn't even touch houdini
The Blendlet has shown its true power level.
>>
>>626378
You should try forming your own opinions sometime instead of parroting off what you think the cool kids would want you to say.
>>
>>626673
This time, however, the second-hand opinion is correct.
