confess your /3/ sins
>>623428i unironically think blender is one of the shittiest software ever created
>>623428I slap primitives in blender then draw over them and tell everyone I finally learned perspective
I make photorealistic likenesses of people I know in real life and pose them in lewd scenes.
>>623431this doesnt sound like a sin..more a smart use of a tool
>>623428I pirate everything.
>>623431I do this too, but for graphic design/illustration.Why fumble around with Illustrator's shitty perspective tool when you can take a few minutes to set up a 3d scene and trace over it.Shit I even use makehuman to get basic human shapes when I need them. Pose, render, and use it as a base for vector illustrations and shit.I don't really think it's a sin, or cheating. Just like the other anon said, smart use of a tool. As for /3/ sins, I've been 3d designing for like 6 years and every time I model something complex it still seems like I've just hacked something together. I usually do static scenes so it doesn't really matter all that much, and I'm not looking to get in the industry, but still. I wish I was better.I don't even model my own cars when I need them, I just use rips from Forza. I figure the end result would look the same anyway.
I samefag to encourage Mrs Mooth to shit up threads in /aco/ because it makes me laugh to think he thinks he actually has a fan base.
>>623431I'm planning on using 3d environments for complex backgrounds to keep my drafting efficient and accurate.I just don't see how it is cheating if the tools are there and you have a grasp of the concept without the software.
>>623428It took me 13 years to get my topology and anatomy down.

I have a folder of porn renders I've made that I've never, and likely will never, share
>>623473but why, anon?
i critique a lot of work posted but i don't have the skills to live up to the critique
>>623475After I fap I realize they're not good enough.
>>623491>I fappedId say good enough
>>623431Not sure how that in and of itself is a sin.Unless you're talking about the Blender part of the statement. But even then.As for my own personal sins? I can't rig for shit. Not in Blender, Maya or any other program.I also use ripped video game models and just modify them slightly if the meshes are screwed up after converting them to quads or other parts needing more dense meshes. Car models especially.
>>623494desperate people fap for some really weird shit you knowI once fapped to thomas the tank engine train porn I made(yes it is a sin too this is a /3/ sin thread pater noster I repent)
>>623501That mean theres at least some small fucked up community of people that appreciate the work.Subculture, if you will
I model lolis
When I retopo a model I just use zremesher at like 100k polys and remove edge loops until it's 50k.
I'm not normal
>>623431There's "pros" that do stuff like this. When there's no photo to bash they get 3D models. Some are more explicit and open about this technique with the use of what's called "ambient occlusion painting".
>>623680nobody around here is
>>623680what if you were averaged?
>>623428i was learning in blender
>>623855>wasforgiven, my child
>>623686>>623686Most of the "top" people in the industry does this. Saves a hell of a lot of time and the picture looks way better. I watched a talk with the lead designer of Naughty Dog on youtube who talked about this and how that's how they all did it. Either do a rough 3d scene or just a photograph of a pose.

>>624733>disgusting instagram thotModern makeup sucks. They pile it on too much. >>624573Eh, just remember your makeup components. Foundation and eyebrows can be ignored since those are more reparation than addition. Eyeliner, eyeshadow, blush, lipstick. Eyeliner should almost always be black. Red and pink complement really well for the most part. Other colors like blue and purple work nicely for eyeshadow, try it sparingly for lipstick and they may look odd for blush. Extreme colors like white or yellow should really only be used when trying to achieve a certain look.

>>623428I've told a bunch of people I've been working on 3D related things. Truth is, I haven't touched any of the programs I've downloaded. I think it's a mix of fear of failure, fear of succeeding, and just depression and anxiety. I'm starting to get more and more behind every day and I'm the one holding me back. I know I just need to buckle down and do it but I keep holding myself back for some reason but this and a few others things are all I wanted to do. And now that I have all the time in the world to do it all and finally combine them, for some reason I can't seem to focus and get started or I distract myself with other things.
>>625587It is simple to beat it - just get your ass to work with it. Start from simple things, and work at least 3-4 hours a day. After a year or two you ll start to make thing good enough to post in blog. Another couple of years and you are good to go for a job.
>>625587>I've told a bunch of people I've been working on 3D related things. Truth is, I haven't touched any of the programs I've downloadedstart with blender
>>625593I think that's part of the problem. I'm too aware of how long it's going to take and that freezes me up
>>625596I've not only started with Blender, I've pirated Adobe CC, C4D, Zbrush, Toon Boom, Resolve, Unreal, and Substance Painter.Downloaded almost 200 gigs worth of tutorials.
>>625599now you have to get into the nuke and houdini game

>>625604the program is actually trash compared to ae

>>625587If you're anything like me I don't think the secret is "just buckle down." The secret is to come up with something you _want_ to work on that is as simple as possible, yet interesting enough for you to find it rewarding and satisfying to put the effort in and see the results.I've tried to learn things in the past by using that "just buckle down, just start reading books, just start watching tutorials, do this the right way" kind of mentality and it never worked. I'd procrastinate and be paralyzed by weird fear and anxiety like you describe. The way I unintentionally overcame this with 3D was by seeing a piece of art I appreciated and being like "that doesn't seem so hard, I bet I can do that." I came up with my own conceptual twist on the art and decided I really wanted to make it, which gave me an actual tangible goal that meant something to me, as opposed to making a boring donut renders because that's what Mr. YouTube Tutorial Man told me to do. One I had this goal in mind I just jumped into the app I was working with (C4D at the time) and started clicking around and figuring out how things work. When I'd hit wall and not know how to proceed I'd Google it and find relevant tutorials.Everyone's different, but this really worked out for me. I was surprised to be making stuff I actually cared about within days, not months like I expected. A lot of the methods I was using were wrong, but I eventually learned the right way to do things out of sheer necessity of needing to execute more advanced techniques for more advanced projects.tl;dr try to relax, come up with something fun to make, start experimenting, don't worry too much about what's right and wrong, and if everything goes right this process should motivate you to start learning and get the ball rolling. good luck, have fun.

>>626514Why dont you get a job as an illustrator then?
>>626515I'm too deep into this shit by now. It grows on me.Also, I do consider 2D artist job as well, but when I'll land a good 3D artist job again I'll be laughing bricks for my luck. And maybe I'll learn a proper pipeline this time, when I would have the people to learn from. It would be cool to be a pro.
>>626134That would be unwise, I'm afraid.
>>626518Maybe you know more than you think. One way or another, you won your company money. But if you are unsure, use your free time to fill in the gaps in your knowledge. This is a good sign that you may come out of this perfectly fine:>the more I learn the more I know I don't knowBuild on it.
>>626530Thank you, I do hope it will work out for me. I know I'm facing a long path, but I want to become good at what I'm doing now.I would say that having traditional drawing skills are a great base for anybody that wants to learn 3D. When it comes to the sense of proportions, spatial imagination, details and composition, or simple knowledge of anatomy - it's a great help when starting.
>>626536can you post a pic of some of your work?
>>626600I can post this one. It's the first thing I made after downloading zBrush, and it's the model I showed my lecturer out of curiosity. I do realize it's a major shit with non-existent topology, but it served my purpose well. I didn't know how to turn the symmetry off, it says a lot about my lack of knowledge back then.
>>626680Your instructor was right in suggesting you delve further into the 3D path. That's outstanding for a first sculpt.
>>626687Thanks for kind words, anon, it means a lot for me.
>>626680Looks a bit like a dark elf from TES. Great sculpt.
>>626723Oh shit, thank you; I love Morrowind and I dig how Dunmers look like. It's the best dark elf archetype imho.
>>626680thanks for posting this anon and everyone is right you do some amazing work
>>626680Not to stop the dick sucking. But, if you want to become a character artist you have a long way to go. Sort of 16 hours a day for two years long way to go.No character artist for example wants to see Zbrush sculpts as you can get people who good at Zbrush but it can't translate into production. I wouldn't waste your time with characters if you need a job, you should focus on maybe envrionments even then if you haven't touched substance or UE4 maybe that would be a hurdle.
>>623428I'm saving up to quit my job in a year time to neet for a year to become good at character art.Currently doing all the hours outside of work to get good at it.Not sure I could even get good enough when I take my chance next year. The joke is that I will be 30 next year, living at my parents house, a virgin. Doing character art 12-14 hours a day. With also no friends.Wish me luck. I been reading about some Japanese artist and they have messed up lives. The guy who wrote Made in Abyss has a messed up life. Frank Tzeng said it took him two years to get good so maybe I can match him.
>>626742Why everyone is so nice here? Is it still a 4chan? I wouldn't lie, it's feels nice, since I lost all my faith with the job. Thanks you as well, buddy.>>626745Exactly senpai, I'm aware that sculpting is a fraction of the necessary skillset. Topology, rigging, animation, all the textures and efficient UVs, engines, lighting, materials, and most surely shitload of other stuff I don't know of yet matters more in an outcome. In the job I was mainly focusing on setting the scenes in Unity, interiors, some buildings, so working with environments is actually a good idea. The problematic part: I was always focusing on human/creature form when drawing, so it sounds like an obstacle to overcome when I would focus on, let's say, hard surface things - it's a completely different, and I can't count on my out-of-3D skills much. It doesn't mean I couldn't become good one day, though.
>>626514>>62651850% of what happened is that a majority of 3d studio work is ridiculously rushed and held together with glue and duct tape, if you created a product then you did fine.
>>626784>ridiculously rushed and held together with glue and duct tapeSame as with most software development.I wonder for how many industries it's the same...
>>626784But you know, there has to be some norms, some industry standards 3D studios (and software companies, in that case >>626788) are striving to. The problem was the lack of the point of reference, as I was the only 3D guy there. If someone asked me how on earth I was able to deliver (sometimes with results much better than expected), it was because of luck, my talent for improvisation and the fact most important projects were developed in tandem of me and my friend (he was coding all the features). I know him half of my life, the ability of reading in each other mind turned out to be handy.
>>626794I work pretty regularly (non 3d role) with a division of a fortune 500 company and the guy that division employs for 3D work should have been fired years ago (they have another division dedicated to 3d which seems semi competent). He's clueless, his work is garbage, his portfolio looks worse than most of the stuff posted on this board, he slows down projects, has a shit attitude but for some reason no one fires the guy. You'll be fine.
>>626797Yeah, the fact that you're humble about your limitations and aware of them gives you an edge. So many people are clueless and have no idea how shit they really are.Stay humble, but don't sabotage yourself due to insecurity. Work at filling in your knowledge gaps and I bet you'll be fine.
>>623428I use boolean operators on my models. Without retopologizing.
>>626797>>626802I guess you're right. It's the kind of reassurement I needed. I'm aware I might have some potential, but the amount of stuff to learn is immense, so I'm getting easily overwhelmed by this. Thank you guys, I'm gonna work my ass off to become competent.

I've been doing 3D for porn. That itself wouldn't be so bad, but I've been doing it so much each day that I'm seeing topology when I close my eyes and it's creeping into my dreams. I'm seeing poles, and triangles are haunting me. I spent so long animating one character that I nearly fucked her in my dreams, but I got cockblocked by my mother.I don't plan on stopping.
On occasion, I make short animations of a pornographic nature. I keep them to myself on an encrypted volume. They involve only sex in the missionary position with the goal of procreation.

>>629864Honest question, do you get horny when you do that? Or have you become so accustomed to it that it doesn't anything for you when it's simply for study?
>>629864Yeah, pretty much. I'm watching bj videos and just looking at the subtle movements, thinking "How can I make that look realistic?", or I'm looking for things that'll be simple to animate. When I watch other 3D stuff I'm thinking how simple it'd be to make, etc.Not quite at the point where it's academic, though. I can still fap to it. I'd just rather fap to my own depraved creations.
>>629894I get horny but then I start doing what I've always done which is focus on which parts I find hot which fuels my fap. It now looks ugly to me and turns me off.>>629908>I can still fap to it. I'd just rather fap to my own depraved creations. That may change into "I can only fap to my own creations." I'm teaching myself blender with the sole intent to create furry porn. Never worked in 3d prior to that.
>>631911Intermediate option: get in bed with a book until sleep takes over.I do this almost daily after working all day on the computer, the book on the phone, usually about something I'm working on/studying. Plus a bit of candy that is always, and only, in my bedroom. Yes, I actually have to entice myself like this to call it a day and leave the computer for sleep.
>>632345No shame in that, anon. I just want to make a cute robot waifu with a pretty little girlcock. And then perhaps another version where she has a big dad dick. Maybe the two versions could have lesbian sex too.

I'm good at rigging and creating animations but, I' too lazy to truly learn how to model and texture characters so, I hired someone to create some 3D models for me. I'm good at rigging and animation.
i hate retopology so i always rush that process and it ends up fucking me over at the endluckily, i learned how to properly UV and i can unwrap anything you throw at me
>>632890but getting your character moving is half the fun. Pirate zbrush and use a shitton of reference
>>632890Ain't nothing sinful about that. Pro animators barely have to model, if at all. It's simply not their job.
>>632890Hey man, rigging is a very desirable skill that no one wants to do. Being an animator on top of it makes you even more valuable. Sucks that you can't make your own stuff, but at least you have job security.
>>623428I'll never pay for an Autodesk product. They can suck my fucking balls.
>>632895You know where one can pirate zbrush?
>>632982Calm down friend. They're not trying to hurt you. Just fib your way into getting the student version :p Then you don't have to worry about any sketchy side downloads or anything. My sin is "successfully" getting through art school. I failed the 3d class numerous times and have almost no painting skill, so I can't texture. How the fuck did I get through and why the fuck did I let the skills I did learn slip through my fingers? I'm so lazy T-T
>>633211>How the fuck did I get through>art schoolThere's your answer.
>>623428I was making some pretty tight legginsit took me some time to make the topology right, I finished it and I realized that I had a base model to steal the topology from

>>632894Same bro. I really, REALLY, hate re-topology.I Can have really nice sculpts, but the re-topology sucks. I would model the head like I do all my other stuff, but sculpting is so much more fun.(I'm also testing out instant mesh.
>>633218I use the term "art school" as a generalisation. But my degree was focused specifically on game art.Several of my classmates got jobs in significant studios. I finished a semester later and am sitting here wondering why I let myself screw up three and a half years.
>>632352There's absolutely nothing sinful in that, Osama was /ourguy/ anyway. Learn how to capture screens.

>>627839I think Ghastly is just into chibi dick-girls now. I'm surprised he hasn't made 3D models of his tentacle monsters.
I can't get myself to finish anything. I like the creative process of coming up with designs and ideas, sketching and sculpting, basically getting the ideas out of my head onto paper or a 3D model. After that I usually lose interest quickly though because inking and coloring a picture or rigging and weight painting a model is the most tedious shit ever. What do
>>634781tackle smaller projects until you become faster, so you don't get bored.
I've been in a creative burnout rut for the past 3 months and working on any of my projects feels like an absolute chore. I just want to lay in bed all day and/or die.Preferably die. I know that this is a sign of depression, too, but I'm too fucking retarded to get the right kind of help. No matter what I do I just feel awful about myself and my work, even when I do finish it.God I wish I never got into this hobby.
>>634752I can't shit talk him, he turned on Dave Willis and exposed him as a total cunt years ago >>634870Get help, this hobby didn't put you where you are and things can get better. I've been a clinically diagnosed (and treated) depressive for over 20 years. It always looks like the end of the road until treatment. I'll cross my fingers for you, okay?
>>634870Take a break. Seriously. Go do something else; pick up a new hobby. But take on something that'd be productive and beneficial, like learning how to cook or play an instrument. Don't default to video games and keep yourself in a rut. The thing about art is that it should be passion-driven (keyword: should). If you don't want to do it, then you won't be able to do it. Sometimes, that feeling may lie in your subconscious and keep you locked out. The attitude you should always have to your projects is "Yes, let's get this done!" rather than "Ugh, let's get this over with". If you've been feeling the latter, then it's definitely time to step back and find yourself. Don't entirely detach yourself though, after a short break go and take a look at some art on a platform like Artstation. It'll rekindle that creative spirit within you and you'll want to create stuff once again.

I have literally no idea as to how to sculpt clothing and instead of learning I’ve just been using Marvelous designer.I know it’s not that big of a sin but I always feel guilty when someone’s like “WOW YOUR CLOTHES ARE SO GOOD” and 90% of it was just cloth sim.
>>635834Bro, you're already using 3D software, everything is "cheating" if you know what I mean
>>635834>“WOW YOUR CLOTHES ARE SO GOOD” and 90% of it was just cloth sim. That's the reaction, but only because most sculpted clothes look like shit. Sim'ing and then polishing with a bit of sculpt/retopo is the superior way.
>>635828Blender is a well recognized stressor, mainly because of its UI. It's considered the first cause of psychological injury among workers in the 3D computer graphics industry. The response you experienced early upon exposure is not very common - symptoms usually begin after some time, typically days or even weeks - but I would consider it a good thing. In a way, it protects you from hazardous levels of exposure to the program, and it could even be considered an evolutionary advantage.Bear in mind that I'm no doctor. I'm however a recovering patient, after having been diagnosed with occupational injury due to repetitive stress caused by continued usage of Blender. But I'm doing well. There is treatment (behavioral therapy, mostly, usually coupled with administration of Autodesk's certification exams), and it works.
I keep avoiding doing realistic stuff/anatomy because i find it boring af. I instead stick to stylized stuff, but in the back of my head i know that i need these fundamentals because stylized only truly looks great if you know how it should look like in rl
>>634870Listen to TRS... The old stuff, not this new defeatist shit. I was listening to the old stuff a couple of days ago and it was still so fucking fresh and hilarious. It totally revitalized my hatred for kikes and niggers.
>>634870Hi friend. Just a quick heads up that things never get any better and that even if you do get some help and hold it back for a year or two, it will return with a vengeance and ruin your life all over again. You should definitely speak with your doctor and find some local groups if you're not ready to end it all just yet.

>>640488>You people aren't real modelers.No. They are sculptors. Digital sculptors, to be precise. Are you implying that box modeling is somehow superior, artistically speaking, to sculpting, or am I just reading too much into your post?
>>640491I hate them because they are like oh Ill just make this model of a suitcase in zbrush then hand off a heavy decimated piece of shit down the pipeline... I know how to 3D Model but I'm not creative in the least.
>>623428This is my first time visiting this board and I don't know much about 3D.
>>623428I let some idiots ruin my 3D class in highschool. The teacher had a great program laid out to teach us modelling, but then this group of these 3 guys said they wanted to do their own projects, but the lessons involved the teacher taking over each computer monitor and showing us the instructions for the project and he said he couldn't separately control each computer, so it would interrupt their self-teaching every time. It was a small class, and they asked the teacher to change the program to self-teaching, the teacher told me if I wanted to be taught it would take preference over those kid self-teaching, but they sighed and groaned and I had a brain injury so I caved really easily under social pressure, and I let them change the class to self-teaching lessons. The years that followed were extremely horrible and grueling for me, those kids mostly worked on 3d physics and special effects, but modelling for me was living hell. I would look up tutorials online, follow them to a T, reread them and reattempt them literally 10 times in a row and they never worked because they used a different version of 3dsmax, shit like vertexes would refuse to weld. I was never lazy, I kept trying and trying for years to self teach myself and nearly every single tutorial I ever followed never worked, I got so depressed I spent 3 years making spiky cubes because none of my projects ever worked out.
>>641896>>623428I even tried downloading and pirating newer versions of 3dsmax so I could study at home, my ISP knew I pirated things occasionally and would throttle my internet connection to 15kbs, so it would take like 3 months to download, my shitty computer probably wasn't powerful enough to run it, but I still tried. I tried using the keygen a hundred times, and the "cracked" program but it never successfully opened itself, I tried like 3 different cracks of 3dsmax, and none worked, who the fuck ever said pirating is easy? And if you're wondering why 3dsmax is free for students now, it's honestly probably because my teacher would personally email and harass and beg the developers to let students have the program for free, he was like a saint, he never got it completely for free but he did get a huge discount.I even tried to be those 3 edgy kids friend and they rejected me, I died and sacrificed years of talent for some fucks who didn't give a single shit about me. I am honestly close to crying, this was one of the saddest things in my life.
>>641896>>641897I was gonna point out things you probably already know, and you don't need to be beaten while lying on the floor, so I'm just gonna telly you to accept your past for what it was, learn from your mistakes, and try to move on. Work hard on improving yourself and your craft. Good luck anon
I create waifus in modded skyrim because I'm too lazy to learn basic anatomy to create cute girls from scratch

>>623428I've been using bodyslide for TES:V to generate a model, which I then print screen front and side profiles and crop them in paint.
>>623428I'm self taught. Over the past years I got better and better, but I have been on the same plateau for the past 8-12 months and am no longer growing as an artist. Sin is that I'm considering quitting because I'm not sure if 3D is worth the frustration to me. The problem is that 3D is one of the few hobbies I've ever had that's had any real meaning or made me feel fulfilled. But that fulfillment that came with becoming more skilled has been replaced with the frustration of becoming stagnant and I don't know how to fix it.
>>648278>I make sure there is a Daz thread up at all times. How is that a sin?>I also put together a monster system specifically for dazThat might be, tho.
>>648504This is common. Even though it doesnt feel like it, you are growing as an artist. This plateau is not you reaching the ceiling of your ability, it's the recognizing of the magnitude of the journey. Every day that you continue to create is another step towards reaching the next boom from the bust you find yourself in. That breakthrough is on the horizon, and I promise that you will be upon it before you realize its happening. Please, don't quit yet. You'd be robbing yourself of what you're truly capable of.
>>648504You are still trapped in the valley of suck?Adopt a bushido mentality. If you are not familiar with it go read up on the hagakure for example. Exchange "death" for "failure" and the desire to become a great artist with lord and master. You need to die a thousand deaths to be reborn as the ultimate artist. That's the way how to think about it. It may just be a hobby for you, but it still works out like the archetypal hero's journey.
>>648508>>648566Thanks anons. among all the software-baiting posts, it's nice to find top-tier posts like these. I've decided not to quit. I'm going to take a break to reevaluate and reform my mindset and strategy, but I'm not going to quit. I just can't leave 3D behind, and these posts have helped to convince me of that truth. 4Chan is a wonderful place sometimes.

I went to school to learn 3D techniques after fiddling about with blender myself for a while. I essentially spent a bunch of money to do a lot of self study. Worst part is that I probably wouldn't have gotten as far as I have skill-wise if I had just sat at home. College might have been a waste of time but it'd have been worse if I hadn't gone.Oh and I'm still kinda shit at retop after all that.
