well you can begin study one right now

of course it's worth learning, it can replace a large amount of blendshapes which can take time to model. if you make one decent muscle system you can map it to a rig and use it on other bipeds, meaning you'd have universal blendshape-esque deformation on your hips, and shoulders. it's the best system out there. it's only difficult for people if they don't have any scripting knowledge for tweaking certain things like the flexing constraints.
