And did you really get to modeling, or are still at the figurine-posing stage?
>>
My friend does it so I thought I'd do it too because it looks kinda fun.
>>

I had one of those shitty wooden artist model dolls and the damned thing would never hold a pose. I thought there had to be some sort of virtual 3D version of it that I could pose as a reference for illustrations. Someone told me about Daz Studio so I downloaded it and started using it and very simple primitives with girds plugged into the diffuse as tectures to create reference images. I started modelling to make better background props and morphs for the Genesis figure and discovered I loved modelling (especially clothing) more than drawing.

I can keep experimenting and playing around all I want without wasting materials like paper, clay colors, wires etc. Just the power bills

And you can work smart in 3d, unlike 2d

I was forced to learn modelling for the nipple rings and dildos and cages and shit. Nothing fancy at the moment, but it's still something.

That your work? Besides the clipping in the right arm and the weirdly shaded face (eyes are too dark), that's pretty good.

It's not mine, but I am studying japanese 3D so I'm heading there. I posted another thread here, asking how to texture this hair since I am stuck with that. It is the last obastacle for me be before I master the workflow for weeb art and then from there it is just practicing over and over again.

And about the shading in the image from >>621363
It looks that way because there is no Cartoon shader or cel shading. It is all PBR and it looks gorgeous, besides the clipping.

Seriously, I have so much more fun modeling characters than environment and props as I used to. I feel like sharing my WIP.
It has overlapping stuff because character customisation.

I was learning Unreal, got to the level layout phase, and thought, "well I need some basic blocks to continue fleshing out the game logic, it surely can't take much effort to create something simple".

I've been here since, and don't think I'll be going back to programming (except maybe for graphics).

You don't have to throw it away at all. It complements each other.

Inspired by the cutscenes from RE3. After some research got into rhino 3d back in the win95/98 era. Eventually fell for the poser meme because of Chimera46's busty elves.
Jumped to maya for some time and now at home with >blender

I want to make video games.

But I have a long way to go, i can't even model a barrel yet.

Why did you move from Maya to Blender? Just curious

i designed my parents kitchen using sketchup
after that i jumped to blender and started to render and texture

Always enjoyed making semi-realistic graphics in 2D with a billion layers of gradient shaded vector paths and gaussian blurs and drop shadows and noise filters and shit. After trying Blender once as a teenager I spent many years assuming that 3D had too steep of a learning curve for me to ever git gud at it, so I figured it wasn't worth trying. Like learning Chinese or something.

Several years ago, after seeing some people on Dribbble talking about learning C4D and showing off the neat stuff they made after casually playing with it for only a few days, I was like "fuck, I bet I can do that" so I pirated R12 or whatever was new at the time and found it much less daunting than I expected.

I'm not posting this to troll Blenderfriends. I'm just telling the truth of my own experience.
>>

Nothing strange about that, Blender changed a lot over the years. I also tried it out 10+ years ago and didn't understand shit. Today, it's a different story and my favorite modeling program.

>>

Started with 2d, wanted to do concept art, studied at the uni too, but getting decent at drawing takes too much time and effort. Was never satisfied with results. 3d was also part of the program there, and it felt more intuitive, approachable and gave better results much faster.
Later I realized that this feeling is false, and it's not easier at all, but it's been too late so I decided to just stick with it, draw something only occasionally. But I still suck at both, too lazy.
And I don't know how to earn money by doing this. Maybe I'll start making waifus for patreon, see how that goes. Good chance I'll get locked up for spreading pornography and not paying taxes.

so youre all a bunch of virgins fapping to deformed meshes you made lmao.

also theres a shitload of job opportunities as animators, learn that instead. most of you cant model for shit and topology is fucked too. if you can only model you would only be hired if youre a great one.

My early 90s obsession with everything SciFi.

Started with Sculpt 3D on the Amiga, later had a pirated copy of 3D Studio for DOS, drooled over SGI machines at trade shows.

Jurassic Park was an epiphany, B5 showed me what I could do with off-the-shelf software, shoddily copied training VHS tapes taught me how to model - texture - animate

...and I finally went to art school.

It was a good and productive time.
>>
>>624396
did you pursue a career in what you learned?
>>
>>624396
Yes, for roughly 10 years. I work in a completely different field now, but CG is still a hobby.
>>
>>621185
Sorry to be a basic bitch but I'm a total pervert and my tastes moved beyond what laws and reality would allow me to see so I started modelling.

Still haven't made that fucked up spider porn story a visual reality yet. Still can't fit cocks that big down girls throats.

>forced to learn modelling for the nipple rings
You didn't just re-position an earring?
>>
Got bored of playing games in my room, figured that I wasn't improving in any way. I've always wanted to do art but don't like drawing or painting, forced myself to learn.
>>
>>624564
Large nipple rings with several big weights and spikes. I tried repositioning earrings, but it didn't work. It was faster to learn how to model, and it was simple enough that I could do it by adding primitives, goofing around a bit, and adding one or two textures.
>>
>>621185
I think its the real future of art
>>
>>621185
I figured out about xnalara and used it to pose a few game models to do lewd stuff, then I saw people posting higher quality images and wondered, how did they do that? Then I found out about Blender and got mad at it for weeks on end for not working, then suddenly it started working and I could do better looking renders. Then I figured out about shaders and cycles and got even more mad as I couldn't figure it out. Then once I figured it out I found certain models didn't look as good as other ones, so I started working on editing them to make them look better because the sight of such low quality models got me mad. Then I went looking for certain models only to find they didn't exist in a public setting, so I got mad and started frankensteining my own models out of parts of other models. Then I finally figured out how to start making my own models from scratch.

This - I rarely find 2d art that seems innovative as the 3d I see every day
>>

I want to make 3d porn like pewposterous and the others.
>>
>>621185
I guess I just wanted to 'create' something from nothing..2d art 3d art, I dabble mostly so I'm no expert but have picked up a lot watching tutorials and tinkering...
>>
>>621460
jill was way hot in nemesis even with the cg of the time...
>>
>>626790
Personally I think the opposite is true.
I wanted to bring the same super stylistic stuff to 3D that 2D has. But I'm just a hobbyist and none of my friends really wanted to do anything.
I'm not about to become a wage cuck. So I just do it in my spare time now.
