Do you draw the topology on your reference?

I did and got a much better result (pic related).

Usually i take a shape and go with it. My most recent low poly character was inspired by Spiral Knights' character design (mostly). Hope your model goes well!

If yes, and your plan is to use 3d as a reference for 2d animations, then I wouldn't worry too much about topology. Just basic shapes, that you can easily see as a reference.

yeah, that's some of my goals, but I also want to master 3D.

first will be making good low poly shit, maybe later I'll learn high poly shit, maybe later I'll learn zbrush.

You could use a boolean workflow, mashing shapes together and then using retopo tools to make your model nice. This is also a workflow you could do in Zbrush!

Learn high-poly first, then low-poly.

You wouldn't learn to draw anime before learning to draw in a realistic style, would you?

I think it would be better for you to learn sculpting with 2d at the same time, and then do the technical 3d (retopo models to make them optimized)

Unless you just want 3d as a reference for your 2d, then you can just do terrible topology for low poly, because you are gonna draw over it anyway.

I like low poly because is easy as fuck to make.

it's easy to get started, but hard to really master it.
