If all new graduates and hired were better skilled in other packages, studios would slowly shift away from Foundry.

My studio is considering committing to Blender as the main package and C4D for stuff Blender cant do, because so many applicants have great work on Blender. It has changed some minds of senior staff who used to think Blender is a poor man's 3d hobby package.

How are you planning to work with them? E.g., Blender for modeling + C4D for everything else? I'm interested in the combination, though as a freelancer.

Right now we switch back and forth between Houdini and C4D depending on the project.

The idea is to use Blender for almost everything and move to C4D/Houdini only when required. Which means we will have 1-2 specialists working dynamics and sim, everyone else on blender.

This will take time though, We will start start with one blender artist and test how seamless the workflow is between packages. Then we're hoping to do a small project like a tv spot and use blender entirely as a test project and use the experience to scale up. Getting current artists to learn blender shouldn't be a problem.

There's already a studio in our city which is Blender exclusive, but they make cartoons. We'll probably be in touch with them and get advice during transition.

We havent started using Blender yet, just discussing internally.

Arnold on c4D, Mantra on Houdini. Redshift and Renderman are being considered for future use and ProRender being observed for developments.
