stop using fbx
>>
glTF is not designed for scene transfer.
>>

What the hell else am I supposed to use? Obj!?
>>
>>614080
At least it's not overengineered mess like Collada.

The file formats are a ridiculous clusterfuck anyway. Some .fxb formats work with some apps, others work better with Collada. The pipelines between apps can be ridiculously fragile. Fuck fbx and fuck Adobe.

Will Alembic and glTf save us?
>>
>>614080
No, fuck you.
>>
>>614080
Can't wait to see more and better support for this format.

their own documentation makes it clear it's a container format for render engines, not a universal transfer format

stop making stupid threads so you look like you're on the cutting edge

I thought alembic was the magic format that solved all cross-platform problems now and forever?
>>
>>614185
I've only used it for pre-rendered simulations
it does everything?
>>

glTF is still using plain text and the number of bones each vertex can have is arbitrarily limited to 4
That alone makes it dead-on-arrival even though it's better than FBX overall
>>
>>614426
No. It’s kind of a “vertex baker”, for lack of a better term. Useful for transferring animation info, not info about how that animation was made and how to modify it.
>>
>>614442
At first I didn't believe this, but I looked it up.

https://github.com/KhronosGroup/glTF/tree/master/specification/2.0#skins

Who in god's name thought that would be acceptable? It's useless for anything but web and mobile 3d pipelines.
>>
>>614597
That is the exact thing it was created for.
You blaming the screw driver for not being a screw wrench.
Its not the fault of the tool that you need something else.

Meanwhile Blender only reliably supports the .obj format. FBX support still sucks b/c Blender is very picky on the version it can import. For Collada .dae, something with the importer/exporter always seems to break on each version of Blender and it's getting to a point where the devs are considering dropping .dae support entirely.

.fbx isn't alone, apparently there's limits bone assignments with the format too iirc.
