I knew Best Virus wouldn't actually be dead.

I was contemplating the other month creating an unofficial ReBoot spin-off comic.

make the comic. its fun to read about MB as middle management. would you illustrate it?

I might just make the models for it and render the whole thing.

Fucking edgelord basement dwelling neckbeard hacker dude.

"Megabyte! I've activated you! I control you!"

Wow... you've activated an old Windows 95 virus. Boy, if all the world's nuclear weapons computers are running Windows 95 we're really fucked.

I want Megabyte the Salaryman Dad instead.

Exactly. The original reboot was a mix of action and self referential geek humour. It was fun and didn't get too far up its own ass. This one looks like it's trying to be a series action/drama and apart from the mention of Guardians and Megabyte there's nothing to tie it to the original.

Frankly it would probably do better if it was Cyber Rangers or some other named new series that was a franchise unto itself rather than trying to clumsily tie it into the old ReBoot. They're marketing it to GenZers who were too young to remember the original ReBoot anyway so why try to tie it in to a series only young GenXers and Millennials will even remember or care about in the first place.

That Hexadecimal model actually looks worse than the later Hex models from the original series where she was all decked out in red and black leather (I hated her white-sprite "Flapper" look).
>>
>>611605

Man, the stretching on those texture maps. Anyone know what software they were using to make ReBoot?

I know they had to stop making ReBoot for a few years because they didn't have the computer power to make both ReBoot and Transformers: Beasties/Beast Wars at the same time.
>>
>>611625

Autodesk's Softimage was used to make ReBoot.

I know Megabyte's original VA died, but couldn't they at least lower the pitch and add some grumble or cyber distortion effects to his current voice to make him sound leet?

cg is meh-tier. Would have been AAA about 10 years ago, but they out to just aim for a more cartoony or retro style.

They're using Unreal Engine 4 to render the graphics for the show.
>>
>>611625
The original used Softimage|3D(by Softimage, Co, BEFORE Microsoft bought them and long BEFORE Autodesk bought it and ruined it all) for rigging and animation, Alias for modeling. All rendering was done in RenderMan.

I wonder what it would have been like to work on that series given the tech of the day and the constraints of their broadcast schedule. You can see they took a lot of shortcuts in the modelling that you wouldn't be able to get away with today but back then 3D computer animation was so new nobody would even know what sloppy modelling looked like.

You can see in some scenes that backgrounds are just pre-rendered images mapped onto the interior of a cube the action takes place inside of which would have saved a lot of time. It was probably a pretty exciting show to work on given the state of the 3D industry at the time. Certainly a very ambitious project that hit more often than it missed. The first season of Beast Wars seemed to take a lot more shortcuts with the CG than ReBoot did.

Yeah, we/they used a lot of shortcuts in those times. You could get away with a lot, even at broadcast resolution...and even more so with your average video game cutscene at the time.

for example, raytraced shadows, raytraced reflections and motion blur are out of the question if it just takes hours for a single frame with low antialiasing. I also constantly hit my head on memory limitations, so no 24-bit textures most of the time, only paletted textures. Or the fact early versions of Softimage, Alias or Lightwave had a 65k vertex limit per object, forcing you to split up your work.

Some things I miss, some I don't. We got more buttons and tools to play with and lost some of the "magic" on the way.
>>
>>609912
then you'd be doing more than the reboot reboot did.

Had a chance to view some episodes. Took some screenshots. Just need to edit out some shoulders. Will post this weekend. They have started digging deep at Rainmaker after a couple people got fired for leaking assets and posting on the chans.

That guy at ReBoot Rival. He's got a fe insider and some OG's at Rainmaker who feed hi stuff. Said he has viewed the outlines for the conclusion to "The Hunt". Would love to take DS for lunch on his birthday
>>
From what I've heard the show runner is a complete dick who treats the staff like garbage. Gavin Blair is apparently saying in private he doesn't consider this show to be canon as he has his own story for what happens after the original's cliffhanger ending, but Rainmaker won't even answer his calls about that.
>>
>>612204
Michael Hefferon himself doesn't consider TGC to be a sequel, but a replacement. Basically they're going with "the original ReBoot never happened".

In IndieScreen Magazine he said "...we tried to imagine that ReBoot had never been made, and we were making it for the first time for today’s audience."
>>

I'm not going to do your homework. Fact is every single leak about the show has come from that site. The casting sheet, the first poster, the link to the torrent site for TGC, the heffron interviews, the disgruntled 4chan leaker, the spanish dub hex leak, etc. Dude is an insider with ties to current and old staff and original creators. Probably on Rainmakers payroll on the DL ;)
>>
>>612231
>I'm not going to do your homework.
Of course you aren't. You can't backup your false info so there's no proof. You could have tried to photoshop the clear Hex leak as legit though.

>The casting sheet
You mean the one posted on a few talent agency websites?

>the first poster
which was on sites like marketwired?

>the link to the torrent site for TGC
That doesn't exist and was never posted anywhere?

>the heffron interviews
which all came from different sources

>the disgruntled 4chan leaker
was never posted to the site. other people posted it to the subreddit

>the spanish dub hex leak
which was clearly from their dubbing department

>ties to current
It's obvious he doesn't deal with Rainmaker anymore.

>original creators
Everyone knows that he communicates with them.

>Probably on Rainmakers payroll on the DL ;)
Oh that makes a lot of sense. I'm sure they'd pay someone to trash the show, the company and it's current president. Paying someone who suggests pirating the show rather than legally watching it, brilliant. Money would be better spent promoting their new show, don't you think?

Yeah that sure is working out well for them now isn't it? Over 12K dislikes, negative reception everywhere, nobody interested in watching it. Their supposed target audience doesn't seem to even know about it let alone have any interest.

There's really no reason to brand this as ReBoot. the GenZs are too young to remember the original anyway and all their changes mean the GenXers and Millennials are just going to be pissed off by it.

This isn't even a "spiritual successor" sequel to ReBoot since it has none of the original's spirit. Just a few words in common and a Megabyte and Hexadecimal character (also looks like there's a Phong-like character that one of the "Guardians" blows away).

You could have a better sequel that wouldn't require you to have watched the original but still maintain a continuity to the original for the old time fans, like Star Trek TNG was to TOS.
>>
>>612947
We all know that Star Trek TOS fans LOVED TNG as soon as it came out. ha ha. A bald captain with a british accent! It will never fly. All the Gen Xrs are too young to remember the original and all the changes mean the Baby Boomers are just going to be pissed off by it. Where's the humor? The alien girls with green skin and short shorts? TRIBBLES! A Klingon as part of their team!
>>
>>613019
Gen Xers were bigger Trekkies than boomers. They grew up with the reruns in syndication and the animated series and while the first 2 seasons were rough (mostly due to them recycling Phase 2 scripts) the show was generally well received by Trekkies from the start.
>>
>>613070
Not true. Watch the reaction videos from when TNG came out

the original IP is {currently} DEAD! how many fucking times do you have to hear it? If they didn't make the changes they did by changing the entire concept of the classic story -- reboot as an ip would have never been green lit.
>>
>>613617
if reboot cult wants a whiff of a chance to ever EVER see their beloved series back in ANY form is for reboot:tgc to succeed. And that is the cold hard reality. so unless you want reboot as an IP to die bettr zip yer lip and get behind the new show.
>>
>>613618
I'd rather it just die then. This new stuff is horrible and the last thing I'd want is for some Producer or IP owner to think this is what the fans actually want.

Well too bad TGC is a flaming mountain of shit. Even without attaching reboot to it, the characters are the most generic, stereotypical cardboard cut-outs ever. The acting we've seen so far is pretty bad as well.
>>
Am I the only one who thinks that The Guardian Code is going to be literal rehash of one of Rainmaker's previous shows, Zixx? They seem to be hilariously similar in premise.
To me it looks like they took the ReBoot brand and slapped it ontop of Zixx, hoping no one would notice.

Yeah I heard about how the show runner basically fucked it up by letting his 10 year old son make the story decisions. That worked fine for Axe Cop where the entire premise is a show written by a little kid but that's not ReBoot.

There used to be a soft-canon webcomic made after the show was cancelled. I should see if I can find it. It might be the closest we ever get to a true ReBoot sequel.
>>
>>611649

Was the 65K limit the reason Megabyte could detatch his legs. I always thought it was neat how he would relax by removing his legs and floating around in a chair. It's like kicking off your pants after a hard day at work.

>>
>>616230

I've been wondering if Rainmaker will now crack down on fanfic webcomics specifically so they don't have to worry about fans coming up with a better sequel to ReBoot than they came up with.

Like how CBS purposefully fucked with canon on Star Trek Discovery just to fuck over the fans that were planning to make Axanar.
