Depends on the figure, past generations would get lots of addons to fix some of the bends. Specially when doing splits or something very flexible.
If you mean in actual games that people have ported to. It's the fault of the porter. Daz bend shapes do not export with the figure normally. Most games you see with daz figures were a basic obj export and re-rig using another tool.
If we are talking about UE engine they usually don't even bother creating their own skeleton and go with epic's mannequin and it's example animations.

What's the best way to import a prop.
Say I've got a shotgun from Resident Evil. I can import and add the texures easily but how do I associate it with a figures right or left hand?
I've tried parenting to a hand but things get weird when rotation is involved.

Looks like Daz Studio 4.10 works under Wine 3.0.
Most programs like the SQL stuff and actual studio will not install through the install manager but most content will.
I installed daz studio manually and ignored the other basics it comes with. Added libraries from my windows drive and was able to load things up without issue.

x64 and iRay is supported but Daz studio only sees CPU and not GPU.

I'm using Studio with Wine for a year now. iRay works pretty much perfectly and with both of my GPUs running it. Don't remember exactly which but had to install some libraries and it works fine.

Didn't update to Wine 3 yet but yeah, everything works but only sliders without limits lose "grip" when you pull them with the mouse and you either have to type in the values or "nudge" the slider over and over until you reach your value. Sliders that have limits will stick to the mouse pointer and you can pull them as you please. I hope this is finally fixed in Wine 3 or soon, will give it a try.

There's no one-size-fits-all answer to what works and what doesn't. It depends on the environment, the composition as a whole, and the aesthetics you're going for.

If you're lighting an indoor setpiece then yes it would be useful to make the lightbulbs emissive, I don't see many other ways you could do it. I just found out that any Wine after 2.21 staging does kill the CUDA support in Studio for whatever reason.
I was hyped to update, went to 3.2 and lost CUDA, then tried any version before and nothing.

Emissive surfaces are the bread and butter of indoor environment. I use them extensively and often uniquely. They work quite well.

"Perfect" lighting is often done by hand in function of your camera. It's all fake as fuck, but for perfect aesthetics it's the only way.

Character designs are always basic, uninspired pieces of shit that rely to heavily on presets or where the person is just simply utilizing some vendor's creative vision instead of fulfilling his own. The faces are always the worst part of this; with no attempt made by the creator to produce a unique visage, and facial expressions always look terrible, with no emphasis put on trying to emulate how the face actually moves during expressions, but just slapping a few sliders on there and predictably producing an uncanny, shitty result. No respect for anatomy or proportion; bodies are often times deformed with balloon tits, impossible waists for no other reason than the creator is a mental midget. Embarrassing to look at.

Compositions are always poorly structured; no emphasis on good camera placement, flow, focus or creating something that looks creative and fun. Poses are almost 100% of the time off in some way; no real emphasis in trying to emulate realistic human emotion/movement/body language or conveying character and personality through the aforementioned elements. Too much reliance on preset poses.

Environments are almost unanimously 100% of the time trash shat out by some vendor with 2005-tier visual quality, but worst of all has no creative input from the person who's creating the renders, so no actual creative tie to the render that's being produced. Pathetic.

Okay i've had Daz laying around my computer for a couple months now and all i know how to do is pose it and render the image and some minor exporting.

But all I've been using is the Genesis3 models that came with it as a default. I downloaded some morphs for it because i was fucking tired of the shitty default morphs but i can't get them to work and i don't know how to actually put them inside Daz. I put them in the folder along with the other default morphs but that didn't do anything.

Base models are called genesis. Very little morphs are available. Need to buy/DL morph packs for that character to customize it. There are also preset custom characters they sell for G# characters. Which may also sometimes be a requirement for future things.

Best bet for just starting out is to get all the Genesist 3 (G3) content you can AND the Genesis 8(G8) content. Bare with us. There was a naming change. Genesis jumped from 3-8.

All your content is in the "My Daz Library" folder. It's a flat directory with subdirectories for Peoples, Props, etc. When you download XTreme Inflation 6 from a shady russian website, you will usually get a .zip containing the various (People, Props, etc) folders. Merge them into "My Daz Library".

It's not rocket science. The Zip contains a "People" folder. The "My Daz Library" folder contains a "People" folder. Put the content of one into the other. You don't need an IQ of 70000 to grasp the idea.

Genesis 3 is the name of the generic Daz female model, while Victoria 7 is the specific Daz female model sold other Genesis 3. As one is based on the other, and they're both sold by the same company, they are often used interchangeably. Most of the things that are compatible with one are compatible with the other. Victoria 7 is just Genesis 3 with a good texture and some decent morphs.

Daz also sells a teenager female model and also a little girl and also a musclegirl. Every time it's just Genesis 3 with some textures and decent morphs.

Genesis 8 is the name of the new Genesis, which is just Genesis 3 all over again but they changed the default pose and sold it like it's new. It comes with Victoria 8, little girl 8, musclegirl 8, etc. Well, it doesn't technically come with that shit, you need to buy it again.

Say I want the character to grab something in front of him in a non robotic way... if I visually pull the limb, the whole body contorts. If I try to get it through sliders, it feels impossible. I have to change so many joints, from the shoulder to the wrist, and in the end the limb is still far from where I want it, but it won't go further. So I visually pull the limb... and the whole body contorts.

What am I doing wrong? Why do I find arms so much more difficult than, say, legs, which just get in place so easily?

DAZ just has an incredibly bad posing system and IK rig. Don't use sliders, and only drag joints to make small adjustments. Use the rotate gizmo for large adjustments instead.

I dunno my dude, it doesn't feel like I've changed. I've just sort of been doing whatever I wanted, and as I've gotten more integrated with the software I've gradually learned to streamline my process and produce results more indicative of what the original idea or vision was supposed to be.

That said I don't deserve any of the real credit. I rip game assets, and use and modify skin presets and morphs other people made. The only real work I do is conversion, rigging and sculpting in Zbrush. The environments I make in Sketchup are likewise made from ripped game textures often times, and if I use substance painter, I use materials made by other people. I honestly do very little of the actual work. But it's fun, and I want to become more independent with time. Glad you like it.

You've checked the translucency and opacity parameters and everything look okay? If it's really the diffuse map it might be some issue pertaining to .tga or .dds file formats, I've had transparency problems myself with those two. Converting the diffuse to .jpg or .png should fix it in that case.

Yea 4k is a hell of a lot more effort than 1080p. 4GB should be ok for a lot of renders, also remember some figures are subdivided by 2, you can bring that down to 1 to free up a lot of VRAM.

Any good crash courses to the tools or hotkeys used to do this? I imagine the import/export is pretty self explanitory.

Yeah that's my webm.

It's just:
>ctrl + m1 to mask
>ctrl + click anywhere in document to invert mask
>W for move gizmo
>R for rotate gizmo
>Standard brush
>Move brush
>Display properties -> Flip faces for see-through

With symmetry (Transform -> Activate Symmetry), of course. GoZ to bridge between Zbrush and DAZ. It will take you a little experimentation but you'll get the hang of it quickly. It's just basic mesh manipulation.

I need to fix the eyelashes when the eyes are closed on this morph. MCM or whatever it's called. When I did the morph for the eyes, for whatever reason I can't remember, the eyelashes didn't follow along. Should I redo the corrective closed eyelid morph? Or should I do a separate MCM for the eyelashes?
