Blender FLIP fluids is out for blender. The Blender Guru was tweeting this out the other day.https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=10&v=5s7L3ruVaXkLiterally no reason to learn houdini anymore.
You know, the one thing I think that should be really respected is that Blender constantly keeps releasing new and exciting technology and improvements. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember when I saw something like that with Autodesk's software. Programs like Blender and Modo just feel like they are on another level, while Max and Maya are stuck in the past, with their old workflows. Working in them always feels like a chore to me.
GPU accelerated solver. Literally hundreds of times faster than slowdini with my dual gtx 1080 tis https://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?445158-FLIP-Fluids-Addon-(Beta)-A-liquid-fluid-simulation-tool-for-BlenderThis is truly the final nail in the coffin for sidefx
You're right, the studio I'm at is already discussing replacing their entire Houdini pipeline with Blender because of this
>>605637you might say "look anon, the memory on gpus is still too low!"this is good enough for television commercials or youtube intros which can get you into the industry making big money. You wont be making Age of Ultron 2 on this, but you will make enough to support yourself and live an upperclass life, all with insanely fast solve times and render times on only a single node with 2-3 1080 tis
>>605631Is this a joke? Houdini and even RealFlow shits all over this.
>>605644they arent even GPU
>>605645Realflow does have GPU processing you are clearly shilling.
>>605645>muh gpuwhen will this meme die
>>605647but its not FLOSS anon
>>605650>FLOSSSo what it still looks like low rez metaball bullshit that doesn't even hold a candle to the particle depth/partitioning / separation/upresing in SideFx's arsenal.
>>605652stop suckling that commercial closed source cock, wagecuck. This addon will get better and better as more people use it and add to it. Commercial solutions will wither and die as we don't need to pay for something thats hundreds of times faster, free, and already something we can do with our mining rigs
>>605654>using a mining rig Lol
>>605654>dafassi>Cannot say what price we are going to make the addon avaiable. But be sure: Our goal is it to make it lucrative as well as for hobbyists as for professional users!Looks like it won't be free either?
>>605657Read the thread>https://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?445158-FLIP-Fluids-Addon-(Beta)-A-liquid-fluid-simulation-tool-for-Blender/page2
as a blenderfag i gotta say this post is rather delusional.you can't compare a nifty addon with houdini, its not the same
>>605658is this true? Putting non-free software into blender is unethical
>>605660Lol beats me I use Houdini.
>>605660Don’t confuse the two meanings of “free”. To comply with Blender’s license all they must do is grant you the plugin’s code under GPL terms, but they may charge you for access to the binary. You can, of course, edit and redistribute that paid-for code (and binary) as you wish.
>>605666checkedi thought it was going to be free as in beer
>>605631Is Houdini really so expensive that you'd switch it out with some hot new unoptimized replacement?
>>605678It's $8,000 a year to rent. The other options you have to rent are useless
>>605631This has nothing to do with blender guru.I also dont see why you're so facniated with other people's use of hudini. The program has more to it that fluid siumation you simple fucking retard.2/3 of what you're saying pisses me off to no end. Its no wonder no one likes the blender community.
>>605681I'd bet that Blendlet is trolling you Autocucks just like you do to other people. In my experience both communities are equally terrible and it's retarded to judge a software based on that.
>>605683I'm a hardcore blender user for 10+ years now. Im judging the community, not the software. Blender has a much worse problem with people trying to convince people that its finally good. Why dont you guys shut the fuck up and post some good work instead of the bullshit statements like in OP?
>>605635See, this is why I can't stand blendlets. They seem to think people will leave their software because of a few addons. Blender will never replace houdini, maya or zbrush. Fuck you delusional Blendlets.
>>605654This is what Blendlets actually believe. Commercial solutions will never die, because companies need commercial support. And for Maya and Zbrush to die, schools would have to stop teaching them first. Which will never happen since Maya (and all autodesk products) if 100% free for schools. So stop shilling your open source crapware you delusionnal guru ballwasher.
>>605687>MayaMaya was outdated 10 years ago.The other two Are great, but Maya is just trash at this point.
>>605690Maya is excellent for prototyping and reverse engineering into floss
>>605650>>605692wats floss? for laughs try googling it without getting oral B results
>>605697Free/Libre and Open Source Software
>>605700Free license open source software
>>605690May's still got strong animation and rigging tools, and people still model in it (as cumbersome as that may be).Unless you're implying there's better programs for rigging and animation than Maya. I don't see how it's outdated.
>>605705What is so strong about Maya's animation tools?Blender have the same functions, as far as I can tell. Also, Maya doesn't allow you to store several animations in one file, which is pretty retarded.
>>605688>Commercial solutions will never dienot in your lifetime, in 300 years earth will be fully globalized and commerce will cease to exist because we'll have replicators.
>>605707thats one definition
>>605710But it's not wrong.
How much are they charging for it?
>>605775Doesn't the Blender license mean that by default every piece of software attached to it also has to be available free of charge?I think there was something like that.
>>605838Well, since there are tons of plugins which you have to pay for, such rule probably doesn't exist.
>>605631>thinking Houdini is just a particle simulation toolThe absolute state of this board, I fucking swear
>>605838Incorrect. It has to be available as free in the sense of freedom, which usually requires of the plugin creator that *if* they distribute a binary, they also have to provide, to their client only, the code under the same redistribution license.Otherwise, they can charge whatever they want. But if you buy it and redistribute it free of charge, that’s legal.
>>605631Jokes on you, I use both blender and houdini
fuck blenderfuck blenderfucknoi spent so much on houdininoi fuck me lads
>>605869Thunderbird master race spotted.
>>605706I've used Blender's animation tools, they're not as intuitive as Maya's from the brief time I used it..
>>605871Don't worry too much about it. Remember the Molecular addon? Neither does anyone else.
>>605706>Maya doesn't allow you to store several animations in one file, which is pretty retarded.Time Editor.
>>605666>but they may charge you for access to the binary.>You can, of course, edit and redistribute that paid-for code (and binary) as you wish.Wait a bit satan. So the addons and code can be freely distributed and i can get anything for free lefally?
>eevee renderer>advanced drool and cum simulationTHE FUTURE IS BRIGHT!
>>606065(IANAL)If they are licensed under the GPL*, then yes, if you are the receiver of such a licensed work, you are free to do with it as stated by the GPL, which includes modification and further distribution, even charging for distribution (reasonably) or for support.*I believe they must be, provided they build their entire functionality upon Blender. Some plugins avoid this by acting as a bridge between Blender and another program (such as an external renderer) – in this case, the exporter plugin is subject to GPL, but the external program doesn’t have to.PS. I have just found this, which explains the issue in more detail: https://blender.stackexchange.com/a/72099/46166
>>605635>This is truly the final nail in the coffin for sidefxThats the stupidest thing i've read today and i've skimmed the Communist manifesto
>>608554Blendlets are just that stupid. They think people will magically switch from their pro software because of some plugin. Let them dream. They are like Indians who think India will be a superpower by 2020.
>>605687Now I wonder who's delusional.
>>605631does it work for cum though?
>>605679Stop spreading lies.
>>605631most impressive blender shit for me is the comunity working with it.. the guys are good and always great with ideas.. begining with blender foundation up to new programmers and guys who help people with their tuts like blender guru or anyone else.
unless you got a full datacenter for decent stuff like in Moana, fluid effects look so bad, just stop
This "blendlet" guy needs to fucking die
>>605631The irony is that this tech will be used to squirt 3D jizz at Android 2B 99.9% of the time.
>>609829Yes, but will the plugin be able to wet her hair, causing it to clump and stick to her face, mixing with small beads of sweat as it dribbles in down thick viscous globs? All while being able to go back to any part of the scene, make changes and not have it blow up? probably not. I think Houdini is going to be just fine.
>>609829What’s the irony in that? The Internet is for pr0n.Heck, even art is nothing but sexual desire expressed in a sublimated form.
>>609844>>609883>>610487all you thirsty ass mofos need to stop drooling over imaginary women
>>610495Are you gay?
>>610498no, just wiser than you
>>610571You sound like a fool.
>>610614You like a horny ass mofo
>>610631You'll understand some day.
>>609668Nice work! I want to learn Blender as first program now! Starting today!
>>609668>when the instructions say "place directly on the oven rack"
>2018>STILL UNIRONICALLY USING BLENDERits like trying to eat a steak with chopsticks
Is anybody with the beta willing to upload their copy somewhere? I'd reallyl like to try it but dont want to jump through alll these hoops to get into this.
>>610689Looks like you'll be making a big mistake today!
How does this compare to bifrost?
I'm doing effects with Blender, there is literally no reason to use anything else any more. I have heard of rumors that one of the biggest post production house in the world has converted to using Blender. I can't tell more than this though.
>>611348So how’s that OpenVDB support coming?
>>611348You can't do stuff on Houdini's level with blender
>>611392Blendlets status: REKT
>>611398Neither can anyone with one PC at home
>>611698>the mental state of Blenderfanboys
>>611702I don't use anything cause fuck 3D to be honest but lmao at anyone thinking they can alone at home creating things they see in productions like the Michael Bay or Marvel movies which are created by like 5000 people at once and rendered on like 100 supercomputers
>>611703>I don't use anything cause fuck 3D to be honestGet the fuck out my /3/.
>>611703>let me just move the goalpost so far that everybody realizes what a fucking idiot i am
Anyone get into the beta and willing to post a DL link? Already applied a while ago but I doubt I'll get in.
>>612997same goes for me.
>>605631>>609668>>611348I think this is really cool. I don't see why people need to be angry that "blendlets" get this kind of addon free. It's a neat addition to Blender, a much needed one at that (have experience with native simulations - they aren't that great). This will not replace Houdini at all. Companies that have already made their own scripts and add-ons for established pipelines of simulations will not just switch over to Blender. Blender would need a complete overhaul to make companies consider doing that. However, to be fair, if this add-on is capable of making some of the more common simulations work well, namely mud, water, food liquids like drinks, maybe lava and whatnot, than it would certainly close the gap just a little bit.
>>609606I'd like to test that, my previous experiments with blenders old fluid simulation didn't work out great.>>612997I'd be interested as well.
>>615780this is a work safe board on a christian manga. Delet that
>>614856It's not free though.
>>615797But it's all nicely censored.
>>605648found the brainlet
>>605648Jesus christ the amount of autist people on this board is astonishing.
>>617272Complaining about gpu support is more autistic in the grand scheme you faggot. Go fuck yourself with such a trivial matter.
>>605687>no argument>just mindless insults and cryingGoddamn you're stupid.
>>617407At least I'm not a blendlet. If I was, I'd be both stupid and a blender user.
>>609668>Thick fluid simulation in BlenderI guess the cumbucket thread dude is finally getting what he's been asking for.
>>617373No it's not, you'd know if you weren't a pleb using your computer's integrated chip.
