I learned how to combine bodies in 5 min and just installed from steam without any issues.

you probably don't need modifiers, in fact you may not need blender unless your mesh needs the make solid tool for flat bodies. (so if you really hate blender just combine bodies using the object browser in meshmixer and use the FREE netfabb online service to make the model watertight before doing any remeshing.)
