Is there an easy way to take a tranparent image and extrude it into a 3D model, without having to cut along edges?

I'm using blender and was wonderung if theres an easy way to do it.

Pic unrelated.

You can write a script for that. You can read the pixel data and generate polygons from it.

Take the transpacency channel and separate it into a different image. then use that image as a displacement map

Writing your own scripts is very common in 3D. You also got provided with even another good solution so stop whining.
