Substancefags BTFO>completely new UIhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npWywFEyG6A
Gamedev kiddies can stay with Substance. Mari is still undisputed king in the VFX world.
>>595041Are you retarded?
>>595040>Working on ground breaking interactive masterpieces>Modeling Batman's nose hairs for generic cashgrabbing capeshits with no substance (pun not intended)Tough choice.
>>595042Are you a shill?
>>595041Anon I...
>>595042>>595045Dear present and any future retards:The image is meant to criticize the abundance of shill threads on the board, not shilling for any specific company in general. It just so happened that, when I made it, it was for posting in both an Autodesk and Blender thread. For you to completely dismiss the point of the image by focusing on the two corporations criticized is almost beautifully poetic.I know that Mari is not made by either Autodesk or Blender Foundation. You can stop being retarded now. Thank you.
>>595047I-I was b-baiting...
>>595043both industries produce a lot of wank
>>595043>ground breaking interactive masterpiecesLike what? Autistic loli/monster girl shit?! Go back to your shed.
>>595051You know what I'm talking about just fine.
Substance is meant to offer a flexible pipeline for studios who want to author textures in various sizes and make small changes without much hassle.Mari is meant to author autistically large, 16k textures for movies where hardware constraints and budget are not an issue. These two ultimately do the same thing, but they aren't used in the same cases in any way. Comparing them both is like comparing a chisel to a sledgehammer. This thread is dumb and you should feel dumb.

>>595055Somebody got very salty for some reason...
>still using w7 for showcasing their softwareWhat could they possibly mean by this??
>>595057You need to consider suicide

>>595033>using mari instead of google images

>>595043holy fuck how can you be so biased and delusional0/10
>>595055I would like to know the reason behind my bad grade, teacher.
>>595116That's not an argument.
I have never seen anyproper speedpaints using Mari. This undermines my expectations in the program as an alternative for single users.
>>595092>using google images instead of getty images
>>595240>>595092>using google images and getty images instead of spying on the neighbours
>>595243
>>595055fuckface
How do you use anything besides quixel and bring up industry? Photoshop tools while working on a model is gonna be easier to market than a whole new application nobody has experience with. Im not shilling, im simply viewing this from a business perspective.
>>595421>I need pre-defined materials to make my textures look goodWhenever I notice someone using Quixel or scanned geo/textures, his shit drops to 1/10th of the usual impressiveness. There is nothing special to letting software auto-calculate your textures.
>>595240>not buying the images so you can post them without the watermark
>>595536Is it ok if you scan textures yourself or use substance designer?
>>595684Ignore him. There is literally no reason to ever have to waste time in this day and age doing something in a few clicks that used to be annoying to do at best back in the day and claim that somehow you’re worse off for it. Sorry great grandpa, but I’d rather just buy my butter at the grocer and not churn it myself.
>>595421Mari was created by Weta for Avatar, doesn't get more industry-driven than having James Fucking Cameron breathing down you neck.
>>595701
>>595700Have fun showing everyone you're using run-of-the-mill textures. Bread and butter of bland content.
>>595714Fuck you nagger, I love my photoscanned textures and heightmaps, and so do a lot of people. If you dont know how to use them properly then thats your fault. I admit that creatling something bog standard becomes very easy using this approach, but if you use it well it can make your work better than it would if you'd take 5 years to sculpt every thread of a goddamn sweater.
>>595714imagine being so braindead you draw wood grain textures for several hours when someone just takes a google image. imagine.
>>595768>>595770>needing hours for a simple wood texturesaltHow does it feel you can't ever find just the right texture you imagined and you'll always have to blend less-than ideal images and maps together because you don't have the skills needed to make them yourself?
>>595776How does it feel knowing you're going to be wasting time finding just the right texture when i'll be reaching the end result 10x faster?
>>595770you could also use designer to generate a wood texture in about 15 minutes without needing to literally steal content off the websubstance designer is NOT difficult at all
>>595033desu i cant see anything from this video that would make me want to swap from substance anonits not like substance is expensive either
>>595237this! i' ve only stumbled on one literally one Mari skin painting tutorial.... mari supporters.. please show us where we can learn it for single users. I'm open to softwares. I like Quixel, because you can litrerally work in open project/layers with photoshop and quixel doesn't notice and updates the project., this workflow gives you huge flexibility. I don't care about 16k images tho, I need reason to use Mari
>>595922>I don't care about 16k images tho, I need reason to use Marianimated textures/thread
>>595920I wouldn't recommend to swap to Mari, i would suggest to learn it and use it when needed in addition. Nothing beats Substance or Quixel when it comes to speed and the texture driven smart mask workflow isn't really there in Mari. Mari is for actual painting and unless you need the power Mari gives, it makes no sense to use it since you are way faster with alternatives. >>595922The original Foundry channel on YT and Vimeo has some beginner tutorials which are good enough to get you started.
>>595922>I only use Mari to texture organic stuff. Faces, monsters, eyes, etc. The only reason I use it is because I think it's workflow and tools are better suited for organics but I'm sure you can get same exact result in SP.
