I'd like to try modeling some horrible 3D models as well, but unfortunately I don't have Blender installed on my PC. Only 3ds Max.

Fucking birds are not even possible to model correctly. 20,000 hours in mspaint and it still looks like shitfest.

modelling is hardpic related is my first attempt at a character, it's so frustrating not being able to shape boxes into the proper formsI'm toying with the idea of just mapping out edge flows on a reference, tracing it with vertices and then moving stuff around like that, anybody tried that 'technique'?

I think sculpting is even easier than what you are doing. And what if you want to add high poly details? Then you're fucked unless you start sculpting over it, in which case all that topology work would be for nothing.

The only thing is - you can do it much faster and easier if you use blender's skin modifier.
