Should be coming out soon. Video:https://cgcookie.com/live_streams/retopology-with-retopoflow-2-0>all of these companies like pixologic, foundry & pilgway doing everything they can for developing automatic retopology instead of optimizing the workflow for manual retopology>blender devs of all people absolutely nail itWho said Blender sucked again? Provided they remove all the bugs, this will be the best method by far.
bf didn't develop it but its a great tool
Why does he make a demo of his v2 when it is obviously not ready yet?All he does is further driving down sells for his older, stable version and people will just wait until this one is ready.
>>588055What are you on about? Everyone who owns the previous one gets 2 for free.
>>588055>>588060Also Retopoflow is free on their Github, you just pay for support.
>>588050Looks amazing. Why aren't they making a standalone software? That would be really profitable.
>>588063>Why aren't they making a standalone software? But why?Blender loads up in literally 5 seconds and that addon has its own mode so if you wanted you could just start Blender directly in it which looks almost like it was a standalone.I would have understood that if blender would take way longer and too much stuff was obstructing the addon but this is not the case
>>588076Because Blender's license prevents you from locking any custom addons behind a paywall. It makes far more sense economically to develop it as its own software.
>>588079Nah son, you can sell Blender addons.https://www.blendermarket.com/products?categories=scripts-and-addonsHell, we're in a thread about an addon with a price tag. https://blendermarket.com/products/retopoflowThough it is a rare situation where they also give it away for free on Github but without support. https://github.com/CGCookie/retopoflow
Man, that looks fucking amazing.
>>588081You don't get it turd. If you read the Blender license, you would know every single modification to the code is required to be open source, which means they're free.Blender Market was made to give people a path to profit from their work, but every single addon still has to be open source, so whatever money you pay is effectively a donation to the creator. CG Cookie literally made Blender Market and retopoflow, and Jonathan Williamson confirmed in the OP's video that they're required to keep it open source.
>>588099>modification to the code is required to be open sourceAddons don't have to modify the code and even if they do you can always include a proprietary blob, retard.>Blender Market can have their own terms.
>>588100Watch. The. Video. You stupid idiot. There's a reason the developers are currently considering making it its own software.
>>588102Why would I watch the video if I know how GPL license works? This is misleading.>If you read the Blender license, you would know every single modification to the code is required to be open source, which means they're free.
Believe it or not but there are people who are passionate about Blender to get forwards and that dude is a hardcore fan, probably even more than that Blenderguru guy.If he decided to make a separate software it would probably vanish and everyone will forget about it in a month but this way it might find its way permanently into Blender. On top of that, look at that addons sale numbers and price. He made way over 100k with the old version already. Not bad for something that is also officially available for free.
>>588104*vanish as soon as the next best thing comes aroundforgot to add that
>>588102plugins can have different licenses.all the mods that blender add to the release are purchased in advance, they don't just steal them
>>588104The forerunner to this called BSurfaces did make it into Blender. It was promptly forgotten and fell to ruin.
>>588128isn't bsurfaces the official retopo tool that comes with blender? i never used it but people said its alright.obvs retopoflow is better
>>588128>BSurfaces >fell to ruin.WHAT.A fuckton of things BASE on Bsurfaces and even this tool wouldn't be possible without that.
>>588129It's not official, it was a third party paid addon that eventually got released for free under a GPL license and became a bundled addon. At the time it was really good but changes to Blender over the years have made it unstable.>>588130The last time BSurfaces got an update was four years ago. The official dev disappeared and no one at BI is maintaining the code.
>>588050Damn this looks better than Topogun.
>let me just hastily and sloppily show you how to do [thing]>you wouldn't normally do it this way, but just for demonstration purposes I'm going to do it quickly and stupidly>I hope you found this demonstration helpful, please like, subscribe, comment, favorite, and donate todayThis isn't a criticism unique to this video, if you're gonna show something off just show me a demonstration of actually doing [thing] for real. Yes that means you'll have a long video that you'll need to edit down, but it's worth it because you'll have a video of something that doesn't look hastily done.
>>588050>retopo on a character head that doesnt even have an animatable, open mouth and mouthbag....is-is this a joke?
>>588050>Who said Blender sucked again?everyone with a job in the industry.
hopefully v2 is better, because despite it looking nice in the videos it actually ran like shit. They should of just called it Patch Fill because you couldn't do edge loops in it, it often snapped incorrectly, it also often would throw fits if you didn't patch it in square chunks.Another issue with it was that it would change the edgeflow a lot if you tried to connect two strips.I'll be honest when I first bought it it sounded like a miracle and turned out to be a huge waste of money and time. If you are going to retopo in blender just switch on proportional editing, snap to faces, and project individual elements. Now you've set it up better for retopology than retopoflow and saved yourself $70 cause once again retopoflow unfortunately runs like crap in it's current state.
>>588217t. childNever give up, do you idiot?
>>588050I tried this addon when I was looking for a retopo solution. It looks great but it worked like absolute ass and it was actually a lot slower than you might think considering the demos. I eventually settled on Topogun but 3dcoat is also a good alternative imo
>>588226Watch the video in the OP. The second version looks far better.
>>588217Oh look, it's industryfag again.Buyer's remorse sure is a powerful drug when you pay monthly for bug-ridden trash.
>>588284>I am so poor I have no buying powerI bet you're the type of guy who drives a 1986 civic while I order a Teslalmao
>>588285I have Maya, though. You don't have to pay for it, like a retard.I still don't use it unless I'm told to.
>>588287Ppl who get something for free have no appreciationMe on the other hand, solo developer, bought it for 3 years on my own as well as zbrush, modo, and Photoshop, and substance. Nothing feels better than having your own licenses
>>588290>literally admitting that all his retarded rants are due to buyer's remorseI sure hope this is bait
>>588285at least the civic doesn't spy on you
>>588285>order a Teslathat's nice.i order my driver while you drive yourself.
This shit looks ok but it still takes fucking years to finish retopologizing a model. Ill stick to the zbrush one. Its capable of perfectly creating an animatable mesh with just some lines.
>>588285do you also order other men to fuck your wife for you?
>>588617Lazy people like yourself will always get shit results.ZRemesher will never ever give results as good as manual retopology.
>>588645>lazy peopleyeah make a new mesh of 5000 poly's because you need 150 polys to be arranged in a certain way.i rather take the lazy route
>>588647Which is why you're a shit artist.
>>588649Show us your art then fuckface.
anyone know where to get Retopo Flow? cgpeers doesnt have it
>>589098Just go to their github
>>588217Buy industry you mean you are pajeet who worked for an outsourced cgi company in pooland
>>588290you mean you pay about a Grand a year in subscription fees for buggy software...might work for a studio but individual users are just being retarded if they do this
>>589098You are an idiot.
>>589292How does it feel to be an idiotic ESL?
>>588050is there anything this does that isn't doable in topogun or modo?
I can't stand that Jonathan Williamson guy.
over an hour long and he never fucking retopologizes the damn thing
>>588050>https://cgcookie.com/live_streams/retopology-with-retopoflow-2-0WTF so let me get this straight is this legit? as in is this the best retopology out there right now?
>>588050thought this was some magic program that just did it for you, it's absolutely nthing, you still have to stitch the whole thing to gether fucking pointless. Why cant anyone make a program that just covers your model in a retopo of quads yet ffs
these guys were previewing patch based autoretopo over a year agowhere the fuck is it?
>>592791https://github.com/wjakob/instant-mesheshttp://igl.ethz.ch/projects/sketch-retopo/It's still dumb AI though, the first one is useless for faces that can be animated well and is basically only good for static objects, the second one has hangups with rough geometry.
>>592793Here's a tutorial series on SketchRetopo though, it's not bad. When I said rough geometry I was describing a situation with a really jagged shape, it wouldn't snap my sketched line on the surface correctly and it kept placing it on the surface beside it, but beyond that it's fine. You can see it working great in most any situation in the YouTube videos.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ev4rXIWdc64
>>588081is this legal? And looks like shit made in Daz Studio
>>588050Just downloaded the stable version from github and used it to retopo this shape made with booleans. Not a bad tool.
>>593045No, its not legal. Its like on youtube when you make a video mentioning some other product you can't monetize it (you used to be able to, but now you can't)
does anyone have experience in remeshing high poly models that are converted from NURBS to poly? The geometry ends up being crazy as fuck, but would be nice to be able to texture some things properly..Pic related. A NURBS car I converted with the most basic use of MeshfromNURBSobject/max detail. If I use less detail or reduce poly in Rhino, even at 10% a time, edges/tangency are lost/ruined.I'm curious what the best program would be to either covert NURBS to poly, OR simply the best one to reduce polys of a hell mesh created by myself.
>>593068>Rhinoare you fucking serious
>>593068try this http://igl.ethz.ch/projects/sketch-retopo/sketch-retopo-license.htmlhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxQOTKNddlc or this https://github.com/wjakob/instant-mesheshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6wtw6W4x3I
>>593068there is a tris to quads function in blender. idk about rhino
>>592791You are mentally retarded.
>>593070>are you fucking seriousAre you? I model in NURBS. There is nothing wrong with Rhino as CAD software and Rhino is known for being one of the best free form surfacing tools for engineering purposes. I could care less if the mesh tool are basically non existent. I just want to make a mesh to paint for fun to make liveries lit up better than in PS to see them on panels that are designed to be made in the real world out of carbon fiber.>>593071Damn those are some interesting looking programs! Thanks. Sketch retopo seems really interesting, wonder if that type program will distort details while creating a new mesh.. only one way to find out.. I'll definitely be trying a few out later today and post results if I have success. >>593072Nice. Not sure, I know Rhino is pretty limited with poly stuff from the commands I've searched at least. Definitely should do more research on finding what would be best to get a base mesh.. I'll have to check if blender supports files imported as NURBS.
>>588285classism isnt making anybody take you any more seriously
