What optimized and realistic(photoscanned) stone packs is /3/ using for big terrain open world maps in games? Im planning to fill a 16x16 km terrain with stones, trees and details and im scared i will screw everything up performance wise. Im curretnly using world creator in unity and im surprised the game is still runningy at 60fps even though i already added grass everywhere and trees. What is your workflow if you do something like this? Is it besser to split the terrain into chunks to create LOD mesh out of them or is the biggest performance issue the gameobjects that are created and not the terrain?

My current Terrain is 2048x2048 and has a size of 10km^2 but i want to increase it.
