I've been toying around with a waterpark scene using assets made for poser. I've applied the iray uber base to it all and replaced the water with an iray texture from JG. I imagine the are equivilent improvements I can do to the other parts of the scene.
Though what's bohering me the most is the lighting. It's currently set mostly to default from a beach scene HDRi. If i lower the exposure, things get washed out. If I increase dome brightness, the sky no longer has detail.
Any suggestions?
I feel like applying the uber shader to the geometry should have assisted with light bounce, or is that a seperate setting I need to tweak on per surface basis?

If you have the skills for it absolutely, but I think Daz is more for people without that skillset that more want to just make artificial scenes for porn or products, maybe a quick human to demo clothing or armor.

However Daz content creators typically do have that skillset and sculpt all the things for people to use.

I guess at some point a Daz user will want to make a new thing and then they'll look into learning Zbrush or something but they'll need to come to a situation where they want more than what they can get, and it happens enough for it to be a problem they want to solve.

If you want to encourage Daz users to learn Zbrush or Mudbox or Max or Blender or something you could describe the feeling of accomplishment and control that comes with making your own morphs for Daz, just going in and actually moving the features exactly how you want without digging through 20 kilometers of sliders. For faces, bodies, and general fetish-related geometry like, I don't know, fuckable nipples and Klingon wrinkles.

Or are you just frustrated with Daz conceptually?

Hey fellas, have any of you got experience with importing animation to DAZ from maya? I can export figure with the rig just fine, but after I manipulate the joints and save it as fbx (2014-15) through maya, in daz the joints are all scaled up and shit, webm related.

However the same is not the case when using motion builder and fbx. When importing animation saved through MB, the fbx comes in just fine in DAZ. Is this just some retarded maya quirk? Is there a way to fix this? Thought maybe it was fbx exporter's scale format, but ticking off the box didn't help.

Webm is exported animation from MB, imported to maya and exported from it into fbx again, and then imported back to DAZ

Thank you for the input, it didn't work adjusting the bones but it made me think of something else!

When I import fbx from maya it comes in already screwed up, so when I click on adjust rig to shape it's not doing anything. But after your suggestion I saved the screwed up animation as pose preset, then I applied it to normal genesis 3 in hopes to adjust the bones on that, but instead I get webm. Which is a better situation of course, I just have to adjust the figure's node in the scene, but I'll still need to see if this method is more or less consistent to get predictable results going through all this trouble or if it's easier to go with native daz studio animation tools. Thanks again

Doing this with exported maya animation (previous one is a MotionBuilder animation saved through maya) fucked the facial joints now, adjusting them didn't help. And I did try to both unlock rotations/nods and leave them locked, like I forgot to do with previous test, but no luck. Unlocking rotations/nodes actually led to the gen3 to become fully fucked up like original preset that I saved.

Bought skin builder pro 3 awhile back to create custom skins to mess with until I realize that the stupid shit doesn't come with a genital texture skin. Found out that the work around is to use Cayman's Torso UV for G3F which just basically copies the torso texture on the genitals. It works great then iray shit happens.

Here's the fucking problem. If you render it on iray, the fucking seams appear, no, the genitals acts as if its separate and isn't affectred by light. Tried the shaders, diffusion, etc.. parameters and it doesn't resolve this shit. Either it goes too dark or too light.

Studio is absolute trash in that regard.

It always frustrates me to no end that you CAN'T set brightness of the scene and the HDR map independently. In Studio, the HDR map is just meant to be used as ambient light source and not also as background, which is totally idiotic. A lot of good maps would work perfectly for both at the same time but in Studio either is the scene well lit but then the details of the map washed out or the map has details but then the scene is too dark. Cranking up the gamma only helps a bit but also affects the HDR map of course, and making things look washed out.

The only solution probably would be to use the Iray canvas shit and later compose the map and the scene in PS. Still awkward and fucking unnecessary if there was just ONE FUCKING SLIDER to adjust the brightness of the map WITHOUT changing its actual light impact on the scene.

Iray supports compositing.
It probably wouldn't be that much of a big deal to make it possible to do some rough editing on the respective canvas layers INSIDE Studio, like gamma or levels adjusting but I guess we can be glad that there's any development at all and good features like this would be pure luxury.

Just recently started using Daz, how can i make lighting more bright when i add interiors/props

I have Lantios Lights, but it seems like that no matter what lighting i add to either the camera or just default adding, the lighting stays the same.

As far as lighting. I hate to say it because I hated to hear it, look up three point lighting basics. Photography books help a lot.

There is no method of transferring rigging from daz studio to maya. You can transfer skinning, but the control rig must be built from scratch, as well as wiring in all corrective morphs manually.

I went down that route before. It's easier just to do it in daz or poser unless you want to rig everything in Maya again. That means you're just using the daz models as mesh skins. But try it if that's what you really want to do. Look into Marvelous Designer and Ornatrix.

Same fag as this one. Solved the genitalia issue by using the New Genitalia + the accompanying pubic hair texture mesh. Skin builder doesn't export the pubic hair to the anatomy, only the torso skin so it was a loss.

Now, my current problem is that the body freckles overlay creates this seam on the left leg but not the other leg. Like from the front thigh to area just below the genitalia to the ankles. Any fixes or just to scrap it?

I've read that it doesn't transfer facial rig, which is something I forgot about completely. I was planning to do animation in maya but then refine it and add facial animation in daz, however since you can't bring it back it's almost pointless for me to get the plugin anyway. Maybe they'll fix these problems down the line. Making face rig on your own in maya for each character is a major turn off though.

There's still value in posing everything in DAZ and then bring it to maya for render I guess

In real life in a completely dark room I can get a nicely lit shot from just one decent not-too-bright off the shelf bulb even without cranking up ISO.

I just don't feel like the f-stop controls the light as much as it should. I have a great 11-16 zoom for my irl dslr that's 2.8 and I can get great low-light shots on manual with very little effort. In DAZ trying to achieve something similar makes me feel like I have to have elaborate 1950s Hollywood style lighting to even get a dim approximation.

I'll give an example. This pic is a shot I took in an old abandoned mansion. The lighting is what you see - sunlight from the room ahead and the one dim bulb in the hallway.

Recreating this shot in DAZ would require a huge amount of futzing. That hallway light would need to be cranked up to extraordinary lumens just to be visible, let alone pleasing to look at.

I've got it, I haven't tried that yet. Basic function is it's quite fast, just use plugin export then use the plug-in it gives you in Maya to in Port, then it also can automatically convert to Arnold.

Few issues.
It only does diffuse maps when it converts to Arnold unless I'm mistaken, still trying to play around with it.
Because hairs are so fucking stupid oversized chances are eyou can't export most hairs with a clothed character and will have to do it separately, unless you decimate the hair. I tried multiple times but Maya just crashes on the import.
As for transferring animations back I think so right, but I haven't tried. The pkguin doesn't have a rreverse feature but you should be able to export as fbx with animations and import that file in Daz, right? I'll try it when I'm home tomorrow.

I'm surprised they even spent the money to buy Gforce for Daz Studio since their business model is to only make the software as good as it needs to be to sell their clothing assets for the latest Genesis model. I guess it's gotten to the point where they realized that there is literally no excuse for not having cloth sim on a product anymore (yeah I know their deal with Optitex meant they were restricted for dynamics until 2017 but still...).

I'm surprised they would let an asset like Hexagon fall into such a state. It has the best UI of any vertex modeller and if they updated its features and made it more stable on modern operating systems while maintaining it's friendly UI they'd have a software package that could become a serious industry work horse. But I guess if you only have 3 programmers on staff there's only so much you can do and I'd imagine they'd be busy bug chasing in the program that is currently their cash cow rather than building up their real assets.

I seriously can't tell which company is run by the biggest idiot. Daz or Smithmicro?
