Let's have a thread to vote for the worst file formats in the history of 3d. My top 1 is .fbx. Because fuck you .fbx and whoever invented it. What's is your number one shit format?
I dunno if this is b8. If not you are literally retarded because fbx is one of the most used file formats out there and If you're having problems with it then u suck.
>fbxi disagree, if anything its the least problematic one. but it depends on the exporter itself as well.mine personally is DDS>the idea is that it loads textures really fast>textures are heavy in size, and there is a fixed size after conversion >can't access through regular editors, need a dds viewer or a plugin>can't create this format, but only convert it>forced you to work with gimp and other shit programs
>>586231It's used but it's shit. That's because there's no real standard for it and everyone implements it a little differently, which means you have tons of importer problems
>>586229It's a proprietary format but there is a standard, which is the fbx plugin released by Autodesk. The only reason Blender doesn't have perfect fbx import/export is GPL autism. They refuse to use the Autodesk fbx plugin and write their own by reverse engineering. Every other software just uses the plugin and fbx works perfectly.I mean free software is awesome and all but "muh source code reeeeeee" doesn't make fbx a bad format.
>>586239C4d's implementation is also shit. Its not only Blender.
>>586239>GPL autismAre you a kike?
>>586239>which is the fbx plugin released by AutodeskThat's not a standard. That's a reference implementation for a standard that doesn't exist.
>>586239Importing fbx to Houdini is AIDS too though
OBJ >t. 50 IQ typical /3/fag
>>586252>one of the most universally compatible, stable, and efficient file format>worstpick one
>>586260>doesnt even animate>not worstlmao are you trolling
>>586242this and .dmx
>FBX>OBJAt least these formats can be imported by most 3D applications. None of your formats even come close to the dumpster fire that is .3dxml.Let's Begin. It's a Proprietary 3D format created by Dassault Systemes. Dassault once upon a time made a 3D object ripper called 3Dvia Printscreen. It worked pretty good when any other model ripper did not. Except, it only ripped to Dassault's proprietary 3DXML format, which nothing except Dassault products support.Dassault: "But we provide a F R E E 3DXML model viewer!"It's true, they do. But it's ONLY a model viewer. It doesn't do anything useful like convert the file into something a sane 3D application can import.Eventually, I ended up using another OpenGL 3D model ripper on Dassault's 3DXML viewer, which actually exported to .obj, the intellectual's format. I don't even know if there's a converter out there these days, but I'm never touching a .3dxml again.
.MAXCause not even 3dsmax can open them if it's not a version away. /thread
>>586239It's not a blender problem
Then you'v got programs like Daz that purposely gimp their FBX and DAE imports and exports because they're terrified that someone will find a use for their software other than Genesis or Victoria
>>586261>t. someone who doesn't know how to rig
>>586278>Rip 3d files from one unusable format to anotherWho comes up with these ideas and softwares?
Why do we have so many file formats anyway
>>586456to lock the user into using the program's format, reducing the competition
>>586278fuck, that's funny,i never thought to use a different 3D ripper on that model viewer
w bill 47
>>586229md2 i hate parse them.
>>586234but there is a dds plugin for photoshop and I think it allows you to create .dds files too, at least the last time I needed to edit a .dds file it worked just fine, .vtf is the hard one.
>>586724i mean that you can't work with dds directly on a texturing program
>>586234thisliterally only useful to old video game consoles and pointless outside of it yet faggots in the industry refuse to let it go and it makes TGA look modern
>>586282we have a fucking winner
>FBX bad>DDS badKill yourself.
