so i got myself a macbook pro since its recommended by the uni, however i also would love to get myself a game engine with whom i can create 3d looking 2d pixel games.
any free engine you could recommend?

Do you want it to be 2d or 3d though? You could easily just cheat and make it 3d with an ortho camera and isometric view and save yourself a ton of time. Unity does 2d too though, or you could use Gamemaker, Godot, etc. Probably get more responses asking this question in /agdg/

i don't know yet since i am still working on the story of the project and the world. i got myself unity now and i think its a good start.

For the 2d style in 3d look there's no reason to not just use unity, it will make everything easy.
