sorry, the animator's QA happened when warosu was having one its frequent outages... :\ he had a lot to say about the renderman pipeline in blender and some of his favorite addons as well as the method pixar standardized for all off its riggers when it comes to using "harmonic mesh cage deformations". basically the topology of the mesh cage doesn't matter so much, it's just the vertex points that it uses to gather information? so you can have as many triangles and n-gons as you want so long as it's a completely closed shape, and you place those points about halfway between where muscles start and where they end, and if muscles overlap you don't add a vertex on the overlap but instead evenly spaced around the intersection since, he said something like you want to stretch it in multiple directions not just drag the cross section around? it's been a while, sorry if it's not that useful.

didn't say shit about the actual modelling or how you get a good stylized shape for disney heads, guess he thought it was really simple or boring. unfortunately that's what i'm bad at... but i got some tutorials i'll get to when i feel good! i'll make really nice humans one day anon! we all have the ability to learn! believe it!

There are, but they're all Daz headhacks using heads from mobile games.

Actually recently http://chestyisland.com/ put out some free models and among them Anna and Elsa and while they're definitely also mobile game head hacks, they don't seem to be Daz judging by the textures. No idea where they came from.

>>
>>583391
Would you give away your beautiful Elsa to be badly animated by SFMkids in their amateur crappy porn clips?
>>
>>583434
Different anon but I intend to release my 3D models when I think they're completed enough to be useful.

I'm in no way as skilled as this Se Young Lee is, but I'd like to think that when or if I do become that skilled I'll still be interested in providing people with 3D models that they can use and are worth using, be it for learning or reference, or just making them fuck with 2 second animations of unconnected hips slamming into each other with the physical accuracy of a dream in which your movement feels like you're in water.

I wonder if one possible reason not to do it is you don't want your work to be associated with porn, and thus your professional identity associated with porn, so professional artists that have some hope of having a 3D job don't share.
>>
Also I briefly mentioned it in this thread, but I want to stress that there *are* models of Elsa and Anna you can get that were professionally made and contracted by Disney, if created from the original geometry and simplified.

I believe the latest Frozen mobile game is Frozen Free Fall Icy Shot, and it's Unity. So just download the APK or APKX, extract it with 7zip since it should just be a renamed ZIP, and use Unity Studio to export rigged FBXs of the models. Now there's a quirk with Unity Studio: If you find the character in the tree browser and export it from there you'll get the armature, and it might be posed or off-center. Off-center is not much of a problem, posed is because it ends up baked into the mesh when I import it. If you want it unrigged and unposed you can export the 3D models from the second tab's file browser. You should also visit that to get every texture because Unity Studio sometimes won't get everything, like alternate textures and different maps.

https://github.com/Perfare/UnityStudio/releases
https://apkpure.com/frozen-free-fall-disney/com.disney.frozensaga_goo

They're not movie quality but the heads can be converted to quads if you're careful and don't just select all tri to quad, then subdivide and maybe run the textures through Waifu2x. The clothes and sections of the bodies that exist aren't worth keeping.

This is either the same or better than Frozen Free Fall's models, which I believe were used for every MMD / XPS model on DeviantArt. The ones on SFMLab either used Frozen Free Fall or Disney Infinity, not sure which because I remember someone on Facepunch getting the Disney Infinity models for Elsa and Anna and retopoing their heads for everyone else. It wasn't available anymore last I saw, or it was SFM workshop. Don't remember.

Hope this helps.
>>
>>583436

You're creating Elsa models ?
Nice, anon.
>>
>>583445
Not Elsa, I'm not too interested in her. Right now I have Judy Neutron on the back burner while I get better at making human bodies from scratch so I'm not reliant on Daz and can make bodies that better suit different art styles.

I mean I could headhack Elsa onto a Daz body as well, but it's already been done, albeit with poor results.
>>
>>583440
I tried doing what you instructed, but I cannot find the models inside the apk.
>>
>>583472
So you'll need to extract the whole APK, which you seem to have done.

Now you open Unity Studio, go to File -> Load Folder. Open the folder inside the extracted APK with all the .assets and level0 files, it might be called somethingsomething_Data.

If it was the right directory then Unity Studio will load everything into the tree list in the Scene Hierarchy tab, which might take some time and you'll see a loading bar on the bottom and it'll say where it's looking currently.

From there it's just going through the Scene Hierarchy until you see something suspicious, like a character name.
>>
>>583472
Also once you figure it out, pay attention to how many official Unity games of various IPs there are. Unfortunately it's only going to be what's recent, and what's popular. I'm looking forward to the upcoming sequel to The Incredibles for this reason since the new models will be basically on Parr with subdivision modelling, sans some levels of subdivision. I mean I'm also looking forward to the movie itself, but more relevantly the new models.

Also if you want to rip from a game that has an APK and a data file called an OBB, you need to extract them both and merge the contents of the folders that have the .assets / level0 sorts of files. Sometimes their names are just long random streams of letters and numbers, you'll pick up on the pattern of the directory structure.
>>
>>583473
Also to elaborate, you select the check mark, go to export selected 3d object, and you'll get a binary FBX format, then deselect it or else you'll end up with several things in the same FBX. There's an option to select DAE in the format dropdown list but it doesn't work yet.

>>
>>583479
pfff omg
the model is cool and done well but my god they tuned down the detail on that texture
i saw 256 textures that look better than this
>>
>>583483
Well it is from a phone game after all.
>>
>>583483
Yeah that sort of thing always bugged me with phone games.

Their poly count is pretty high, I want to say PS3 level? But the textures are like 256 or 512 if you're lucky.

I don't know if this is phones not having much memory despite having processors that can handle the poly count or if this is people deciding you don't need big textures since it's a small screen. I mean you don't really zoom in on her, I think she just stays over at the side in the game and you might get as close to her waist and head filling the screen the short way.

Oh well, we can run it through Waifu2x and it'll get bigger without much distortion. But honestly I think we're all just interested in her head, and maybe her hair if it's going to be retopo'd or used as a guide to make new hair since the artist probably had official guides on how to create Elsa down to the proportional size of the bundles of hair that get braided and how many loops there should be. Disney seems to care about how their characters are represented.
>>
>>583491
if you are not using normal maps, 1024 textures are fine. each is about 2 to 5 mb on average.
scale down the textures for the props and its not an issue.
normal maps are usually the issue here because they are often 10-20 mb. but diffuse textures shouldn't be limited to 512
>>
>>583492
You're talking compressed textures right? That's only going to matter for when it's stored which is important with all the apps people collect, but when it's loaded in VRAM every pixel takes the same amount of space because it's no longer compressed and ready to be used.

You'd think that with tangent space normal maps you could get away with just loading the first two channels and the third is either not loaded since it's for moving the surface on the Z axis and is usually blank, or is used for something else like AO which will only need one channel and thus save file space and VRAM space and have the shader take the AO info from that texture. I think I've seen this done once or twice but I think optimization doesn't go that far in many situations.
>>
>>583479
this is the model SFM people use and it has been around for ages. literally every 3d frozen porn is made with this model.

But aside from that Elsa's head looks pretty simple to model. I'm surprised there aren't more Elsa models out there. What about the models that are on the internet that we can rip ?
>>
File: elsa_hair_transparency.png (132 KB, 256x256)
132 KB
132 KB PNG
>>583483
The hair texture is actually 256.
>>
>>583494
It might be literally the same model, but it came from a newer game so if it's any different at all it's going to be better.

But yeah a real problem with it is I can't even tell if it's better by just looking at it.

Oh well, just subdivide and that's more or less the high poly, then put on good posing and shading.

I haven't seen any rippable models online last I looked several months ago, just MMD / XPS / SFM ports of that model, or the model from the game before it, some modifications of the model to have different clothing, and a Daz head hack.
>>
>>583495
im not quite sure why they would do that. do you have optional hair styles?
seen lot of games make "parts" for the textures. why not use a big texture and load it all at once? the difference between 256 and 1024 in terms of RAM is an megabyte here and a megabyte there
>>
>>583498
There is nothing in the files suggesting more hair styles, there were only 3 textures for the model when extracted.
One 256 for the hair, one 1024 for the face and dress and one 1024 for the "outer" dress.
And the mesh is just one whole mesh.
>>
>>583498
They're better off using square textures. Turns out earlier I was wrong about textures being uncompressed in VRAM, iPhones and some Android phones with PowerVR GPUs use some special compression called PVRTC which only works with square textures.

Phone hardware is weird.

Plus it's usually not just the game running, but a bunch of other apps like Facebook and Spotify and God knows what hidden things are running. Turns out the latest iPhone only has 2 GB of RAM, and it's used for both CPU and GPU. No dedicated VRAM.
