I ask because the amount of time software, subscriptions and images that are used for producing is ridiculous and imo unsustainable unless you have thousands of dollars to spare to begin with

I pirated blender and GIMP
>>
I have a full time job so no I dont pirate.
>>

I use Blender myself I dislike GIMP because it wants to be like Photoshop without the familiarity of it.
>>
Just videos until you realize most video series have equivalents on youtube nowadays or were a complete waste of money if you bought them to begin with.
>>
>>580212

Normally people pirate the software when learning how to use it since the stuff's expensive and they don't know if CG is something they want to do or not. Those who eventually get into it and start using it professionally are the ones who end up paying for licenses. Or it's the company they get hired by, if they're not working freelance.
>>
>>580212
yes, everything is pirated
>>
>>580212
>software
no
>resources
sometimes, yes

depends if it's a subscription model or not. i'm going to buy zbrush when i can afford it simply because it's a one time purchase
>>

If the software doesn't have a non-gimped free trial (if I can't export the mesh with the trial version to see how well it works with other software) then I'll pirate it to see if it's worth buying.

If it's worth buying and is affordable then I'll buy it.

if a software costs over $20 i'm not paying for it.
that's just silly and rude of someone to ask for more than that.

a 100$ is totally fair for software.
games that take 3 years to develop are below that

The real problem with GIMP is that it's duct tape that tries to advertise itself as something more.

I work at Pixar, 99% of the stuff we used to make COCO was pirated.
>>
>>580233
This.
There are very few and far between series that are actually worth the buy or download.
>>
>>580705
Which tool is the 1%?
>>
>>580705
Every studio does that, big or small.
>>
>>580212
Depends. Being a poorfag kind of limits my legitimate options for the time being. So ultimately I pirate most of the things I have unless they're outright free.
>>
>>580705

Ive *heard* of Studios pirating software the problem is that I don't have any solid proof. just anons saying they've worked for studios.

Then again, it would be an extremely bad look for a studio like Pixar, with the millions they get from their movie products, to say they pirate software they used to make these movies.
