Well well, anther edition of Daz 3D GeneralLets all get some practice rendering our futalolis with a summer theme. Pools, beaches etc.9000 year old futaloli not required. Just make it summer.Should I ever bother updating that pastebin? Pastebin:https://pastebin.com/VuQffYvxprior thread: >>573580
Why do you pick worse and worse opening pictures?Do you actually want people who non-stop complain about Daz and its users in these threads?
>>578576You would be laughed at regardless if your op pic looks good or not. Daz in general is 99.9% weirdos and fetishists, with .01% being actually very talented and skillful. Just roll with the punches anon.

>>578574Does DazStudio include any sort of phone-home functionality or copy protection?I've spent lots at the store there, but it's getting to the point of diminishing returns for me.So yeah, stuff for free is good, but I don't wanna lose all the legit stuff in my account either.
>>578574> No EffortYou used a photographic backdrop, you get 10 points for the figure not looking like the lighting is alien.
>>578604It was the HDRI I had loaded from a previous scene :D
>>578602The application itself has no need for copy protection since it's free. There are a limited number of products with DRM and the user base has loudly answered in the forums that they won't purchase them. No one knows whether the application is phoning home.>it's getting to the point of diminishing returns for me.There's only so many times you can resell the same basic content items before fatigue sets in. The only advice I can give is to have a specific goal and genre in mind, buy what you need and then spend your time rendering it.

I'm a noob on Daz, so I will ask a few questions about it. If you create and rig a model with Daz, can you export it to another program (like 3Ds max or Maya) and edit/animate it there?Sorry if it's obvious...
>>578784Yes you can but most times the rig will break. There are some scripts though. smutbase has a decent one for rigging daz in blender.DESU the worst part is morphgroups not transferring so deforms look awful. That and re-adding all the textures and recreating shaders is a pain.

>>578857You can either get rid of Daz3D or the Sonic fanbase. What do you choose?
>>578857Daz Studio was used to make the animatics for the Avengers movies and others. Studios used to just use Barbie dolls and cardboard cutout scenery for animatics so Daz is a step up. If you have the director's cut of ST2:WoK they include the animatics and for that they actually used old Star Trek action figures and other toys.Daz Studio is used by small advertising agencies that don't have the budget for Maya, and it's used by some freelance graphic artists. There was a cover of Heavy Metal magazine that was done in Daz Studio. Personally I use Daz Studio just to make reference images for 2D illustrations but I enjoy making content for Daz Studio too.
>>578857The reason they created it was because they were a content creation company for Poser but were afraid Poser was going to go out of business meaning they'd have nobody to create content for so they decided to make their own 3D software platform to create content for.
>>578860Neat, I've been meaning to make some background wallpapers from environment scenes.

>>578861>but were afraid Poser was going to go out of businessI thought the same, but have since been told that Dan & Chris were planning DS long before the Poser 5 fiasco which simply accelerated the matter. They were out to screw Larry from day one.
>>578843>>578883faces sculpted in hexagon if anybody's wondering. will upgrade to zbrush eventually I guess.
>>578884That's some amazing Hexagon work.
What are your favorite freebies /3/?
spent the morning resculpting my base toon girl preset (the one I based Moana on in the previous thread) for G8 because I wasn't able to convert all the morphs I used. Didn't bother much adjusting the eyelashes but they seemed to auto-follow whatever I did to the eye and everything looked great. Then I closed the document and re-opened it and the eyelashes had defaulted to the original shape... took me something like an hour to fix them again in Hexagon. Fucking hard.
>>578958I think the reset was maybe because I hadn't saved the morphs I imported from hexagon... but I'm not sure. Fucking irritating either way.

more sculpting. there's so few usable tools in hexagon I'm basically just using the "tweak" to move polygons individually. lucky me Daz' models are low-poly trash, I guess.
>>579010These are kinda cool.Hex just easier to port between programs I guess?
>>579014nah zbrush seems much the same. but it was cheaper, $20 versus $800 or whatever.
>>578963>Paying for software>Kek

>>579015>>579018If you don't care about GoZ, Zbrush Core is $150.
>>579022Thanks, didn't know that. Would only use it in conjunction with Daz though so would prefer (need?) GoZ
>>578986G3F might be easier to sculpt, less polygons.
>>579023>Would only use it in conjunction with Daz thoughIt's literally the difference between using Core to output .obj morph targets to import into DS or having GoZ push the changes directly back inito DS. If you're older than 23 you're already familiar with the former process.

>>579047nvm, thought you were talking about G8 vs G3.

>>579083exported DAEs viewed in noesis which apparently doesn't support quad views despite them being quads in blender
>>579076don't you have to re-rig them then? also blender doesn't use iray...
>>579085no, they have bones and there's a script to clean up the armature. and sure blender doesn't use iray, and i don't really want to use iray. takes too long to render on my laptop. i'd rather use internal or cycles which i'm more comfortable with and render faster for me.

>>579135What I do is send it to Zbrush, use the brush tools to alleviate the clipping, use GoZ to send it back to Daz Studio, then apply it as a morph. That should do ya, good luck.

>>579157>Tell clothing vendors to stop being retards who blindly copy every body morph target and stop buying products that do this. That's another huge problem. There are just a few that have decent deforming when you make a character have large breasts.
>>579161>There are just a few that have decent deforming when you make a character have large breastsRight now clothing vendors have SDKs that blindly copy all meshes in shrinkwrap mode and vendors bitch that they COULD put more effort into doing this kind of work but they couldn't charge more for it. Poser has actual cloth dynamics which take gravity and fabric type into account. Ironically, it's not useful for applying simulations as morph targets to conforming clothing items because the dynamics engine doesn't preserve vertex count/order. THAT'S why some people are telling you to do the physics in Blender then export the modified .obj as a morph target. You are eventually going to realize that Genesis 3/8 are bullshit and DS is not useful for doing much outside the box.
>>579163I'm learning that more and more as we progress through these generals. Now I kinda hope these just act as a stepping stone for a lot of us to move on to other 3D apps after getting this rough intro to basic 3D from poser/daz.I'm sure plenty of people will be stuck doing futa fetish scenes in /aco/ though. >>579165>zbrushYou will just have to look up video tutorials on youtube. Trial and error, learn and practice.
>>579135If you're going to moan about all the ways that people normally fix problems like this then make your own clothing. And then before you say that's too hard, fuck off.
>>579135Also, increase your collision and smoothing iterations on the clothes.
>>579157>blindly copy every body morph target and stop buying products that do this.what do you mean?

>>579181Seconding, also requesting V4 clothing packs.
>>579181If you don't make clothing yourself, make an opacity map for some other clothing that cuts the top half way down the breasts.
>>579178shrinkwrap, as in the clothing acts as though it doesn't stretch across breast or buttock cleavage and instead conforms tightly to it the way fabric doesn'tThe development kits used to make conforming clothing work by literally calculating a uniform offset value between the vertices of the body/its morphs and the vertices of the clothing, without regard to places that it more realistically stretches across valleys because there is no gravitational force to cause shrinkwrapping to occur. Neither DS nor Poser's pro tools take this into account which is ironic because Poser's dynamic cloth engine does (but for reasons explained above cannot be integrated into this workflow). >>579188>also requesting V4 clothing packspsst, start herehttp://pfddelights.com/index.php?topic=35.0http://www.evilinnocence.com/shop/free-stuff/clothing/vicky-4.htmlhttps://poserdazfreebies.miraheze.org/wiki/Victoria_4/Wardrobehttp://www.sharecg.com/b/11/Poser/?keywords=v4&fsf=f&s=dd&member_type%5BAll%5D=on&attribute%5B2449%5D%5B-1%5D=1&attribute%5B2577%5D%5B-1%5D=1&attribute%5B2439%5D%5B2447%5D=1&tdm=a

Can anyone ezplain to me why the normal maps in DAZ models are always so huge, even when they don't seem to contain much detail at all?Its true across the board for virtually all the daz models i have and I haven't been able to figure it out, surely I am missing something.

>>580022You admitted yourself (here >>580002) that you gravitate towards a certain facial structure, and that is all I'm saying. They look distinct enough that you'd be able to identify them in different clothes and hairstyles, yes, but if you have no emotional connection to the characters or live in a place where everyone has pronounced cheekbones, strong jaws and chins, pointy noses and angled eyes, you will gloss over what makes them look different and instead focus on what makes them look the same. It's the same reason why, for example, non-asians would say that all chinese people look the same.
>>580028Ah yes, I understand what you mean now. I do tend to get a bit more creative with faces when I'm not outright creating (what I consider to be) an attractive female. I do have diverse tastes when it comes to women, but when sculpting faces it can sometimes be hard to deviate from wanting to create an idealized visage to creating something less-than ideal (or ugly). I absolutely take your point that my characters end up looking a bit too samefacey in the end. Just something I need to work on, I guess.
>>580031I guess 3/4 of the fags bitching here suck so much they coudn't make this morph in 100 hours worktime
>>580045>but I actually think there's decent variety between the faces hereJaw angle and chin shape, degree of boniness, prominent cheekbones, nose tip shape and angle, eye slant, and overall head shape are without much variation. The eyes are the most jarring aspect here because 1. Slant was created for Asian morphs and 2. it permits a degree of tilt almost never seen in nature. Seriously, it's a holdover from when they didn't know better at DAZ and used slant instead of epicanthic folds, and now it's actually used for making ayylmaos. IRL that degree of slant's only seen in (geographically isolated) Caucasians of a particular Nordic group and it's a very recessive trait. All of your examples look like cousins. This is not necessary or desirable even if you have aesthetic preferences. These four characters are all off the same base figure and only one of them is a sculpt.I neglected to mention, I'm the designer for all of them; they weren't randomly selected from other peoples' galleries. This is not to say I'm wonderful, there's room for improvement in all of them but they aren't SISTERS and their features harmonize towards a particular individual aesthetic where an individual feature don't stand out as not matching the whole.>>580047>Do you think I'm making it up that I used Zbrush to sculpt these or something? No, I believe you now (I didn't before). But I still think you're using one particular sculpt as a template for non-sibling characters which is a major crutch.
>>580048If you'll allow to receive a little bit of criticism yourself, you don't exactly present a compelling argument through that image. Honestly I think your character designs are extremely lacking. There's no sense of uniqueness or personality to any of your designs, and though you say otherwise, they definitely blend together in my eyes. I find it interesting how you describe your characters because I don't see any of that passion reflected unto the character designs at all. Frankly, they're completely dull and generic. A character needs to be an archetype; every aspect of their design needs to reflect an easily identifiable set of personality traits. This is why you'd give an evil looking character deep eye pockets, gaunt cheeks and a scowling expression, as a shitty example. It infuses a design with character and conveys to you visually what this character is all about. Your designs look like NPC characters where what matters are the main cast, know what I mean?Maybe this will give you an indication of why I'm not going to hold your advice in very high regard.
>>580053>There's no sense of uniqueness or personality to any of your designsYou may not be old enough to post on this site if you're that defensive about your work. As I said, there's room for improvement in all four of my designs but no two share the same basic facial shape/proportion, chin, jawline, or even teeth. If you're planning to create a project with multiple characters in it, THAT MATTERS. "Muh style" means pretty much nothing. You get points for noticing that I don't bother aiming for a recognizable visual aesthetic in character design. I let the characters speak for themselves without a signature on them and stick to what the story requires. People will and can come down on you hard for samefacing regardless of whether it's 2D, 3D, mainstream or porn. If it's a hard thing for you to break, focus on it first until it's not part of your comfort zone any more. Your next challenge is more diversity of textures but that should wait until you can make a nose that isn't useful for picking locks.
>>580053>>580055And to give you credit where it's due, you costume your characters well and they have appealing body types appropriate to their characters. Your poses are a little stiff but practice will improve that. Post fewer T-pose/A-pose stuff and more in the character's context, we don't need to have complete sets. But overall think about harmony. Delicate features like a thin pointy nose don't belong on a bruiser with heavy arm and leg bones unless there's a giant stitch seam running around the neck and a skin color change between them.
>>580055>>580058I've been debating a while how to best approach this with a response, but I'm just gonna be honest. At the end of the day, I'm going to keep doing what I do, unabashed and unaffected by any advice you've presented me, and you're going to do the same with your stuff. I don't know why either of us pretends like the other gives a shit about what we have to say. I don't need your advice, just like you tell yourself you don't need mine. I'm gonna be honest, when I post my shit, I'm not looking for a fucking laundry list of advice and critique. And honestly, unless I know you by name, most likely I'm going to just immediately assume you have no idea what you're talking about and tune out. This is me being honest. I'm a fucking retard, and I feel placated when I'm in the company of other retards. I want my life to be a circlejerk, but one where I've got the biggest dick. I honestly couldn't give less of a fuck about you or your terrible, dogshit god damn 3D creations that you, by the way, take way to much pride in for what they are (shit). I mean, seriously.>their features harmonize towards a particular individual aesthetic where an individual feature don't stand out as not matching the whole.Just this statement, and that picture you posted, cracks me the fuck up. And I'm sorry, but I'm being honest here, because I'm not going to condescend to you with any more passive-aggressiveness. I don't know who you think you are, to think you could EVER be on my level, and that's just me being frank. I'll prove to you one day just how lowly you, frankly, are, compared to me. And that's me being honest to you. I'm not saying that because I want to be a dick, I'm saying it because I am a dick. Your creations are dogshit and you will never amount to anything unless you realize just how fucking terrible they are. I'd rather browse porn made by The Fear than see another one of your designs, and you think you can give ME advice? Fucking embarrassing.

>>580143Well, the feedback was a bit lacking, but good choice of insult.
>>580144You successfully replicated most of the facial traits associated with FAS. Considering you find them attractive, your mom has it, and like all sick fucks you are obsessed with her since there is not a lot of women nearby you in the first place.

>>580193>anyone remembers this? She was so ugly she broke the program
>>580187Nice liver spots and corn kernel teeth
>>580241Those are the original G3F teeth, so.
>>580243ok, there's literally one feature on this face that you can't take the blame for. JSYK, eye spacing has fuck-all to do with sexual dimorphism and indicates inbreeding, not gender. In case this hasn't occurred to you, flat wide bridges don't terminate in pointy, pinched nose bulbs (which are themselves TWO collagen structures, not one) with inexplicably flat nares. Every fucking thing about that nose was done wrong, kid. The crow's-foot morphs on the eyes of someone in her 20s are a nice touch too. Keep Zbrushing your dreams into nightmares.
>>580244Wide set eyes are a feminine trait, whereas narrow eyes are a masculine trait. This really doesn't bear debating. Also, the crows feet were done in Photoshop, to be honest. I would like to be able to create a morph at that subdivision level but I can't figure out how to sync a subdivided G3F base in Zbrush with DAZ, though I haven't experimented much either. I think Hexagon has that functionality, though. Too bad that program is a pile of shit in terms of UI design, unlike Zbrush which I think gets an unfair rep in that regard.
>>580245>Wide set eyes are a feminine traitopinions ≠ facts
>>580246My opinion is that it makes my characters more attractive, so that's what I'm going to go with.
>>580245just found your waifu
>>580137Why are her ears on the back of her head? Ears don't work like that.
>>580256No, you want a broad bridge, widely set eyes, thin lips, all the signs of femininity.
>>580265You may be right, actually. That's from making her skull smaller, but you're right I didn't actually reposition the ears. I'll keep that in mind for the future.

>>580247If it's attractive to you then that's fine, but it's not attractive to anyone else, so do us all a favor and stop posting your inbred characters here.
>>580245There is literally universal rule for how facial features should be proportioned. You are making inbred retards. If you want to make it look "feminine" make jaw less pointy and make nose bridge less protruding and make nose tip point a bit upwards, cause this is what you seem trying to achieve
>>580298Boy, what an utterly terrible approach to design that sounds like. Do you have any character designs you've made that might convince me your approach is viable? But please realize I'm feigning receptiveness. I know you're not going to post anything, and even if you did, it'd be embarrassingly bad. You're uncreative, and you think the creative process should be dictated via committee rather than being intuitive and personal. Additionally, you think you know better than me, which is frankly embarrassing. We both saw what happened when someone tried to do what I do (>>580170) to disastrous effect. It's the effect of making something look easy, when there's actually a large amount of skill and thought that goes into it all, like a hibachi chef. You don't realize how out of your depth you are to think you're on my level.
>>580315Literally everyone here thinks your characters look retarded, yet you keep going. From now on, I'm assuming you're trolling.

i never used poser or daz but i have a question for people that do use itis there a need for a better version of daz studio? or possibly another software that can fulfill the role of daz but fixing all the issues and possibly adding new features to itwhat do you guys use when daz is not sufficient anymore?
>>580382My guess is if someone was really serious about making compositions they'd use some workflow involving Zbrush and Blender or Arnold or something, first and foremost. You're gonna have a tough time creating compositions in DAZ studio that are beyond entry- to intermediate-tier.
>>580382>another software that can fulfill the role of daz but fixing all the issues and possibly adding new features to itIt's called Poser. If DS weren't free, its only competitive edge would be Iray and autofit.

This is Sibylla of Lusignan! She likes killing saracens, long walks on the ramparts and pickled boar's head! If my father didn't insist I wed a duchess, she'd be in real trouble!
>>580507fuck you retard
>>580017Eyes aren't human eyes. Nose ridge too sharp, nose tip too sharp, chin too pointy, wide and sharp, and jaw angle too sharp. Eyes outer angle is too high, cheeks sing too much on all characters. There's no noticeable difference in nostril height or angle among each character. My suggestion is to play with the overall proportions of the face like upper-lower-mid face depth....head width/length...lower face length etc BEFORE trying to do the facial features. Here is an edit i literally spend about 30 seconds on....it's not meant to be perfect, just an example.
>>580601I appreciate that you took the time to create that picture. I take all your points and your rendition strikes me as more indicative how of an actual human face looks than my own renditions. That said, some women do have angular jaws, pointy chins and hollow cheeks; all traits I like. I realize my way of implementing them may not be ideal but I don't think doing away with them entirely is a good solution when that's what I want for my characters. Your advice for changing the base head shape before altering the other facial features is actually appreciated. I can see how that might give you a good base to work from. So far that's usually been the last step but I will experiment a little.
>>580603You need a mix of sharp and soft features then. Like how Chinese women may have thin sharp eyes, but a round nose. Or a middle eastern woman may have a sharp nose and chin, but her outer eye angle is slightly lower than the inner. Sharp/broad features are masculine traits.....some women have these BUT they dont have every single feature as sharp/broad. It's not usually an either or thing....some features may lean towards soft/round....and others towards sharp/broad. Finding the balance of these is what creates unique and beautiful faces.
>>580603>So far that's usually been the last step but I will experiment a little. The shape of the skull is going to have an overall cascading effect on other features because that's how somatotropin works. A heavy masculine jawline is going to also result in collagen deposition in ears and noses. Work inward or if you must work outward do so with a clear idea of face shape.Look at people who've been fat most of their lives. Their noses are bulbous and even if they lose that weight, the collagen deposition in their noses that came with it won't disappear because it isn't fat. The face is a history of body type and when it doesn't match, it looks out of place.>>580605And here's aesthetics nicely summarized to go with.
So the Daz audience are inbred retards with sub 50 IQ according to this thread?

>>581018That's probably the shittiest thing I've seen all day.
Has nobody ever leaked the HD plugin that PA's can use to sculpt on subdivided models? If not, how come??
>>581064The HD format hasn't been reverse engineered yet, so it's possible each PA's getting a plugin with a baked in serial number that's encoded into the HD morphs.
How many customers in total might the Daz shop have? Say a PA gets lucky and has a breakthrough hit, what do you suppose the max amount of sales he could hope for?
>>581101>how long is a piece of stringYou're asking for a metric no one outside the company could provide, on a board devoted to pirating that content as soon as it hits the store. PAs regardless of store report watching their content stop entering wishlists as soon as that happens, btw (yes, they're informed when a user wishlists and de-wishlists an item).
>>581103>how long is a piece of stringThat's the second time I see you using that phrase, and the second time you use it incorrectly. Here's an idea, why don't you just fucking kill yourself and get it over with for everyone else?
>>578574So much for that thread theme eh?
>>581103yeah, I know it's kinda the wrong place to ask
>>581103>You're asking for a metric no one outside the company could provideA successful PA could have shared this info. Or Daz could have previously somewhere and somewhere here might have seen it. Or Daz might be publically traded and there might be numbers online. There's definitely a number of people outside of daz who will be able to
>>581120>Or Daz might be publically tradedI've read the SEC filings, they aren't. They have a handful of nervous tech-VC investors who make up the majority of the company's board of directors, they've privately sold stock in the company twice in the last decade for a total of about $14M (but to whom they aren't obligated to say) and one of their VC partners only does loans which they may not have finished paying off yet.
>>581101I was also curious so I posted the exact same question on Daz forums... got a whole bunch of responses from PA's detailing all kinds of stuff when the thread was suddenly deleted without any notice. Fucking LOL.One guy had calculated the DAZ shop got ~1 million orders (which I guess can consist of one or more items bought at the same time, also including freebeis) in total last year and is on course to get the same amount of orders this year.others mentioned sales of 1500 the first week for a new product would be A LOT. Like probably as good as it would get. one guy (name I forgot but somebody well known in those circles) said he had made $50k at most from a single item. stonemason maybe. don't know what type of item, asked him but the thread was deleted
>>581293Really fucking pathetic that DAZ would delete that
>>581294>>581293Any time you discuss business there, archive.is the threads
>>581293Wow, I really chose the wrong career path lmao...
>>581559essentially unless you're extremely successful it 's a less than minimum wage job, was my main takeaway from the thread (which some PA also explicitly stated). Daz of course will still make a lot of money since they get 50% (minus payment processing fees maybe) without doing much. ofc they don't want this knowledge public because it might mean fewer sheep working minimum wage in their sweatshops
>>581559it's interesting also the amount of orders so far is similar to last year's, indicating there's been essentially no growth - despite the g8/m8 releases which I would assume generally would mean a bump in sales. so taking that into consideration, maybe the consumer base is actually shrinking, albeit slowly.
what's the best/easiest software for doing/drawing custom skin textures for g8 models? bonus for being lightweight (like hexagon)

I just re-downloaded and re-installed DAZ and the auto-fit feature is no longer working. It just gives you the "unsupported" option instead of the usual G2F and G3M when loading on G3F and you don't get to choose any clothing types at all.Did I break the program or did they remove autofit?
>>581845Sounds like you are missing those "go between" products. Stuff like "genesis 3 for genesis 2" or w/e.
>>581847That sounds sensible, weren't those free and download automatically though?
>>581849I think only G8 comes with a g3f autofit. The rest were various packages like genx

>>581854uh duh I'm using photoshop as well but I'm asking for actual texturing software
>>581888>actual texturing softwareNothing will have a larger footprint than Photoshop when it comes to texturing an object. Importing a DAZ figure as an .obj allows you to paint diffuse/specular/bump but the resulting document will be nearly 3Gb in size and thrash your scratch disk. ANYTHING else is going to be lighter weight. Also considering how little commitment most modelers have to realism in a G3/G8 model, it's pointless to use a dedicated package for shitting out pore maps and knuckle wrinkles. Buy a merchant resource like everyone else and modify it.
>>581892>it's pointless to use a dedicated packageif you don't know shit, how bout you shut up?
>>580193Hey, it took some work but I remember making quite a few decent females with Judy back in the day. It had low mesh, and terrible joint rigging, but the base was a pretty good base shape of a female body.Better than more that Poser has put out since.
>>581936Jesus christ... You're fucking joking right? You think that looks decent?
>>581937You're not able to see the body, but it did not have distinctive body parts.I am not joking, and you are apparently not understanding anything. When you make a base female shape, you don't want a large butt, or distinctive features you have to work around. You want a base female you can add distinction to of your own, not have to work around.
>>581938>I am not joking, and you are apparently not understanding anything.Judy is a hideous caricature of Laura Innes. As you yourself said, you want a base you can add distinction to, not have to work around. There's a REASON that V4 has a mannequin face but enough polys to customize.
>>581938No offense, but fucking kill yourself if you can look at that atrocity you posted and think it looks good.
>>581949Insults do not make your opinions valid when you have nothing to show for. There world might be a better place if people like you were dead. I'm certain your insults prove just how much you feel the need to compensate for feeling so useless. If you actually had something to show for I'm also certain you'd be met with just as much disregard. We all enjoy Poser, and the only contribution you have to offer is insults. Have you ever wondered why or if people really do not like you why that is?>>581946Again, I was referring to the body as being Poser's best base shape for a female body. Unfortunately the low mesh, and tight wireframe made it impossible to do more with. Yes, DAZ's V2, V3, and V4 all had better arrangement of wireframe to work with, and make smoother joint controlled morphs. Poser gave up on JCMs until Poser 2010.But generally speaking Judy was Poser's best female base shape that if there had been more mesh, better rigging it would have been the easiest to work with.
>>582034>Judy was Poser's best female base shape that if there had been more mesh, better rigging it would have been the easiest to work withI hear "most realistic body proportions" but "everything else insufficient" coming after that. You can morph another figure to have more realistic proportions, and in fact that's what the Stephanie characters for Victoria always were (even the first Stephanie who was a genderflipped Michael).> Poser gave up on JCMs until Poser 2010.I hear DAZ just went through the same thing, G3F being 100% weight mapped and G8F reintroducing JCMs because they're more precise.
>>582042I've been disappointed with Poser for nearly a decade now because they've wasted their few chances to release a modern female base shaped model depending on DAZ.Then DAZ change because investors took over.Poser released a low mesh Roxy to show off Poser's ability to raise the mesh count, which means if you wanted a default model with higher mesh, you were shit out of luck. Then finally after another 2 year wait Poser released Pauline, which they bragged about being comparable to V4 even though V4 at that time was nearly 6 to 8 years old.Of course DAZ was busy promoting new products to compliment G3 - V7.Poser's been way too slow at keeping up, and to this day still hasn't. If you were to go to the Smith Micro forum for Poser, they'll still defend Pauline even though it is virtually non-existent on the web or websites like deviantart where there are literally many thousands of images of V7, and now V8.Poser's group won't even admit how badly they've done at not keeping up, or providing anything nearly as well designed as DAZ.So far all Poser has done (since 2012 ) is push out uninspiring models, and upgrades loaded with bugs that's taken them nearly the whole following 2 years to fix.I've pumped thousands of dollars in cash into Poser, and Poser compatible products since 2006, and I feel quite stupid for doing so.
>>582099>all Poser has done (since 2012 ) is push out uninspiring models, and upgrades loaded with bugsMake that 2009 actually.Poser's latest has been loaded with bugs, badly rigged models, a slow interface. All they've argued about in the SM forums is the hair room, and cloth room problems, and yet a model as useful as DAZ's latest STILL isn't even on the table. If Poser's next model isn't top notch impressive I fear Poser will vanish into the forgotten void of useless programs no one talks about anymore.
>>582101>>582099You're going to like 2018 ;^)
>>582105Honestly I do not know whether you're being sarcastic or not, but if Poser were to at least provide one female model that's not embarrassing ancient in 3d to show people that would be amazing.A model that doesn't look less advanced than video game characters. A model with bending poseable parts that look just as realistic as real people who bend their arms, legs, glutes, shoulders, neck, and chest. A model as modernized as the thousands of models we see posed on the web by freelance 3d artists, and amateurs toying with zbrush. That would be awesome. But all of that is wait, and see. Poser has disappointed me too many times, and I remember long ago when Poser was fun to use. When it was a joy to show to friends what was there instead of being embarrassed at how amature the models have been.DAZ has made beautifully impressive models that not only look good, but pose, and look fun to work with.
>>582177>DAZ has made beautifully impressive models that not only look good, but pose, and look fun to work with. They did when Michael Lane was sculpting them to proper subdivision. G3/G8 have Posette level poly counts that require HD morph patches to get serious results for sculpting a face and G8's just a service release for G3's rigging the same way Victoria 2 was for Victoria 1. >look fun to work withRead these threads more carefully then. They're fun for casuals to play with until they need something that didn't come out of the box. And no, I'm not being sarcastic. I just can't tell you anything further, even anonymously, because I wouldn't stay anonymous if I did.
>>582193Well, if you do know anything about the "inside" inner workings, I would rather you remain unknown for your own sake.Over the years I've only gathered rumors as to why Poser's female models haven't been better, why they haven't had better JCMs, or why female models haven't had detailed privates, etc, and I'm not able to confirm anything but with bits & pieces of statements from so many different sources I believe there is legitimacy to the claims.I used to blame Teyon for bad sculpted females, but when I looked deeper into the matter I discovered it wasn't his fault, but the Poser team at the time that was voting his detailed works down, and intentionally reducing the detail of the female models as a means of censorship, and for political correctness, which if we're to look at how DAZ has handled it DAZ hasn't bothered with it, and succeeded by providing customers what they wanted.DAZ is in the middle of Mormon country, but do they care anymore? No, because more money prevails over censorship. Hivewire purposely made Dawn's pelvic region with lower mesh to prevent the model from being used in porn which worked only to make the model undesirable by those working in that field. Plus the low pelvic mesh hindered the bending. But, all of that aside I wish people would stop using censorship, or political correctness in anything that has to do with art. Political correctness, and censorship is poison to art. It only acts to stifle inspiration, and creativity. When I want to feel free in my imagination I don't want limits, or rules by religious groups dictating me to control my thinking. The reason we come to forums like this is because we're in fear of being judged because of political correctness, and moral persecution. Imagine how pathetic it would be if this place remains the last place for freedom of expression?I'd much rather the art, the tools out there draw the line to be the place for limitless creative inspiration.
>>582193It's not up to the gun manufactures, or the car manufacturer's concern about what happens with their product once it is given to the public. It's a tool to venture out. No model is going to be disliked because it is more accurate to real humans. Anybody who thinks that is absolutely wrong. The more realistic in shape, detail, and bending the better - just like DAZ is already doing.
>>582254>just like DAZ is already doingYou mean the company that charges you to buy a premium character pack just to get geograft genitalia? Which by design cannot be added to their house brand child figures (which is why Growing Up exists)? The same company that prohibits any demonstration of nudity in a promo?DAZ may not be run by Mormons any more but the prudishness is still there. The G3/G8 breast meshes are now so badly subdivided that people are selling geograft nipples. They aren't defenders of the faith here.
>>582256>DAZ may not be run by Mormons any more but the prudishness is still there.I'd agree. DAZ is by no means the leaders at complete full anatomy. Regardless DAZ models have been sought after because those models look the best which garners others to make the rest.We could go back, and forth about this or that but I'd hope we'd all agree (at least here if not in SM forums) that Poser's models haven't been kept up, or done as well as DAZ models. That's what I so dislike about the SM forums. They go on and on losing sight of the sum total message - Poser's models (until now for the most part) haven't impressed as many people as DAZ models have. Why? Bad rigging, no JCM, ugly, generic, uninspiring bland models.Of course there was that one model in 2012 that someone made a character for. The artist even created JCMs for the legs that were impressive, but of course it turned out that was a flook.Anyways, that's all I have to say. Poser models have been embarrassing, while DAZ's have been inspiring.
>>582285>Why? Bad rigging, no JCM, ugly, generic, uninspiring bland models. There have been two modelers (not riggers) who set the pace for the most well used humanoid figures: Christopher Creek and Michael Lane. Creek's a driven modeler but his limitations as a sculptor above the neck are no secret. He did all the bundled figures in Poser 4 and previous, he also sculpted Generation 1-3. Generation 4 and Genesis 1 & 2 are Lane's work and he's always been a contract worker. I don't know who did Genesis 3/8's sculpts, it may have been Lane but I suspect someone else retopo'd them to what we got. Various people have done the rigging for those figures. As far as Poser's native figures from version 5 onward are concerned, e Frontier and SM have been consistently stubborn about refusing to hire professional modelers like Lane, instead foolishly taking in one idiot from Renderosity after another to build what amount to showpieces for new technologies but impractical for use beyond crowd scenes. Roxie had some good points but like Pauline her head isn't versatile enough to develop a diverse enough set of characters. For what it's worth I think Bella's underrated and Sasha's a remarkable rework of Victoria 4. But let's both be honest here: there wasn't a period when Poser shipped with what could be considered competitive figures. P4Female and P4Male content development was a microbubble that burst with the introduction of Victoria 1/Michael 1 and development for bundled figures never resurged after that. However, 2018 might change that if SM can avoid being stupid.
>>582306>let's both be honest here: there wasn't a period when Poser shipped with what could be considered competitive figures.Oh I'd absolutely agree. There have been models that had potential but Poser's team intentionally made the model impractical.I remember Roxy, probably my favorite they intentionally reduced the default mesh count just to show off their Pixar subdivision feature.I'm still dumbfounded by how stupid that was amidst DAZ steadily pumping out Genesis 2 content promotion that wouldn't work in Poser. So after you've seen the raising of subdivision on Roxy you're left with a low mesh model you can't work with because it won't export but at it's low mesh setting. It takes 2 years for Poser to release new content, and they intentionally wasted an opportunity with a low mesh model to showcase a feature you'll only need to see once, then you're stuck with a useless model. THAT WAS ASTONISHINGLY STUPID.Then while we waited year another 2 years ( again amidst steady DAZ's Genesis 4 content promotion) for Pauline whose head is terrible and shoulder rigging that's a mess that Poser's team is bragging is comparable to V4, and their Superfly renderer with speckled dottie renders that look like sand paintings. So, since 2012 (Alyson) Poser's team wasted time not putting out anything new or slightly competitive for users to use that was comparable to DAZ's latest Genesis models which look far better than V4.There's plenty of websites that offer real 3d scans like www.3dscanstore.com/ which could help any amatuer with sculpting. There's literally hundreds of thousands of artists on Artstation who create lots of impressive female models. Here's just a couple of many more www.artstation.com/ysalexhttps://www.artstation.com/eofNow, after all of that I still don't know why they haven't been able to get their act together.
>>582314>shoulder rigging that's a messRigging paradigms assume all bones are either hinges (fingers) or rotators (wrists) that move in simple axes.Scapulae and clavicles don't obey those paradigms. Scapulae move in multiple axes depending on degree of movement and clavicles are unattached at one end. Bone rigging tries very hard to pretend that bodies are made of jello instead of skin/fat-wrapped muscles that codetermine movement with bones because it's computationally cheaper to build algorithms like that.> and their Superfly renderer with speckled dottie renders that look like sand paintingsEither you learn how to do renders or you don't. Iray won't hold your dick forever either.
>>582343>Either you learn how to do renders or you don't. Iray won't hold your dick forever either.Yes, tie up computer for 3 to 5 hours or more to produce a slightly better lit render covered with little dots everywhere.I'm sorry, I still cannot understand how anyone believes a renderer that takes longer, producing renders covered with dots is an improvement. So I have to get five super computers rendering 24/7 to produce slightly better looking renders that I was able to do in a fraction on the time with one computer with Firefly? That is NOT an improvement.
>>582350> Firefly is faster and less troubleNew rendering engines bring learning curves and sometimes new hardware requirements. I remember Phong rendering being the best Poser could bring to the table.Pretty much every 3D package out there is going to render better for a particular engine if your materials and lights are made for it. Even Reality swaps out or modifies FF materials for Luxrender. You can accept this or you can complain.> dotsA ray tracer's definition of "finished" is "rendered every pixel in the viewport" because its concept of light reflection is comparatively simple. A PBR is more accurate, but must think in terms of passes so no it's not going to get every pixel's reflection perfect on the first pass. As computers continue to get faster and GPU specs rise this becomes less of an issue. Firefly had growing pains too.
>>582362That's the problem. Computer tech hasn't caught up so that PBR produces better results faster.Sure, in 3 to 4, or maybe 5 years from now most computers will be able to handle, but that's not the case now, or in the immediate.Slower is seldom better. I do bulk renders dozens at a time. I don't want to spend a week doing 4 or 5 renders over an engine that can to nearly as good producing hundreds of renders. In my case what works fastest is best, and slower is not efficient.
>>582362Oh, and addition to this post I made >>582387Let's not forget while we're concerned about the future of accurate rendering, STILL nothing comparable to DAZ's latest models. Why exactly does Poser have to wait until a new release to introduce more outdated models?I've asked this question in SM forum, and was informed that I don't have the professional skills to know what's best, and yet SIX YEARS, of still NOTHING.We've got Pauline few want to use, and at this rate Poser's been too slow. Why not take a little hint from DAZ by constantly providing new models, and expanding the pacing instead of waiting for a hit or miss with each new Poser? You could have a staff of modellers pushing out entirely new models every 6 months and people would be excited about having new features on an upgrade to go with all of the new models?Imagine an influx of models in all sorts of varieties that satisfy a wide range of users. Some more detail, some less... A whole new venue of new models pumped out on a steady basis just as impressive as DAZ?But, don't forget I'm not skilled enough to solve a problem of slow outdated model releases.
>>582387>>582391>I do bulk renders dozens at a time. Then you have no business not spending $35 on Reality and buying a couple of cheap used PCs as networked render boxes (church yard sales, campus surplus, if you spend more than $80 a box you're being ripped off). Reality will automagically recognize and convert most Firefly materials to their Luxrender equivalents and it does a good job. I am the cheapest bastard who ever lived and even I've moved into this direction. Don't wait until tomorrow to learn what you need today.> MY pet issue will make or break Poser's future> No fuck you, MINE will> You're both idiots, *I* know what's best and if the devs don't follow my vision and issue me a personal apology I'm going to switch to DAZ Studio FOREVER (i.e., a week before limping back)Welcome to public Poser forums and their resident drum-beating camp followers who have dutifully trudged from Rendo to RDNA to SM. For every Bagginsbill and Erogenesis raising actual technical issues, there are myriad "why doesn't this work the way *I* think it should" complainers who'd be right at home on /3/. This doesn't mean they don't have valid points sometimes but they invariably couch their complaints in terms of Poser's continued existence depending on that complaint's resolution to their personal satisfaction. Were the last 3 generations of bundled Poser figures substandard? Yes. Has it prevented a commercial application from competing with a free one that bundles better sculpted/rigged new figures? Somehow, it has not.
>>582398>> You're both idiots,But you linked both comments of mine, so I suppose I'm twice the idiot. >Poser figures substandard? Yes. Has it prevented a commercial application from competing with a free one that bundles better sculpted/rigged new figures? Somehow, it has not.Poser's team has been changed just after the two previous runs that the heads were either outed, or left. That suggests that something is not right, and perhaps their growth rate is below expected estimates. It' is not just me who has made these observations that Poser's slow pace at producing models keeps them locked in a state of continuous lackluster models.Literally every time a model has come out the reaction is:" That's it? That's the pair we've waited two years for?"It's embarrassing plain, and simple. Could they do better? YES! Could they produce more models people would be happy to use, and enhance? YES!But, no let's not. Let's remain the poor man's 3d app with crappy models.
I'ma give this thread one last bump before it makes it journey to the great septic void of oblivion.
