You do realize that topology doen't matter because it's all flat and flat shaded, right? Also there are only so many ways you can triangulate a polygon, so you're contrained in that sense unless you want to introduce a lot of t-junctions.

But compare it with a non-baked ambient occlusion rendering. I've got similar results as well, which I didn't post because I thought the one I posted was funnier. You'll see that the baked version is full of shading errors even for something as simple as ambient occlusion.

I can give you the model and the exact parameters so you can replicate those result sand see they're all perfectly reasonable 99.9% defaults.
Keep in mind that Povray, Sunflow, PBRT and several other renderers I've tried, all do a perfectly fine job with these models. All except Blender.

Blender tutorials are crafted in such a way to make you feel guilty because the machinery is flawed. Just because the natural flow of doing things nowadays is watching some fagtron on YouTube talk for 5 minutes about something he could just do in 30 seconds doesn't mean that it's the right way to do things.
With Autodesk software, I was able to figure out the basics of 3D modeling within a week without ANY tutorials, while with Blender I was never fucking able to.
I'll give you that this was almost 10 years ago and that I was 13 at the time, but it really speaks to user experience and human factors when a software can't be designed to be used by a know-nothing kid.

I'll be the first to admit that Blender DOES have flaws, like its UI, and how its lacking in texture and sculpting tools unless you buy addons or use outside programs like zBrush, Substance or Photoshop. And there's others I've personally have had issues with, like with its lighting systems (though I also admit that I suck at lighting).

But the issue feels like that it's less the program and more the userbase itself that offends Cult anon.
