C4D is the first one I use and my favorite. It's easy to use, the ui is pleasing to the eye and it's just a cool and modern program.That being said just learn one of the autodesk license and mess a bit in the other so you can say you use both and be done with it. 3ds to answer your question

I worked 3 years doing renders for architects and half the time I was applying box mapping on everything anyway.Since you're into archviz, there's a ton more resources if you opt for the 3dsmax+Vray workflow vs any other though.

Just modeling, I might go with Cinema 4D. It has a really solid workflow when modeling with splines, which I was disappointed to find out is a total pain in the ass in Maya.

Blender.equip it with the right plugins and you will never have to use another program,alot of the good ones cost money however.if you want to make blender a plugin beast check out blender sensei tutorials
