we have mirrors on the moon we can shoot lasers at and measure the distance

Counter Question: Why would we send Matt Damon to Mars to film the Martian instead of just filming it on the moon and slapping a sepia filter on it?

Because we'd already been to the moon and people wouldn't find the movie convincing if we could see the Moon landing in the background of Mars, that's why.

the best part about this photo is the camera was owned by a professional photog who discovered he couldn't copyright the picture because the monkey stole his camera and took the selfie itself. This went into the courts and the courts said "possession isn't 9/10ths of the law here, no one can hold copyright because the photographer wasn't a fucking human being. You LOSE, good DAY sir."
>>

depends.
he's an idiot for getting butthurt about this.

this photo wouldn't be this popular if he didn't tell the story about it being actually shot by the monkey.

You ... I've seen you. Let me see your face... You are the one from my dreams. Then the stars were right, and this is the day. Gods give me strength.
>>
>>575558
I used to have dreams that I was this small, and it felt like an infinity of space was between me and this teensie tiny little step. Whether it be a falling leaf, or a little toy soldier's footfall.
It was like looking down and up at the same time.
Then I'd get vertigo, the perspective would zoom out to that of a giant/normal sized person looking down at my tiny world, and I'd hear the crash of the bubble/wave/footfall like an explosion - or at least feel the expectation of it so intensely that it might as well have happened, and then everything would get really quiet and calm and the perspective would quickly collapse in again.
Did you ever have dreams like that, anon?
>>
>>583380
I once had a waking dream which was like the Matrix. I could slow down time and accelerate it and shape-shift myself into other persons.
All the chaos and mayhem when i mowed down hordes of faceless men in black suits with my fists and legs.
Flying through the city like Neo/Superman was fun too.

But i never had this dimensional shifting experiences in dreams. That sounds like something out of a psychedelic trip, but who knows what the brain is able to cook up and serve you when you sleep.

Eh, with the lack of detail overall and especially in lighting it's not that hard to tell. Doesn't really look distorted enough to be Photoshop or filters on a real photo, and the realism outside of the textures on the chair cushions, isn't too convincing. Crazy ass reflections on the tables ad not detail in lighting to suggest composite.

Yeah I know those do exist, but the image you (or some other anon) posted totally looks like a high res 3D render of what they actually resemble. Unless you can assure us that a very high tech or electron microscope can produce images that sharp of those things? That would actually be amazing
>>
>>>/fa/12918002
>>
>>579852
what about these ones
>>576455
>>575518
>>
>>591980
it's a little disingenuous to post electron microscopy imaging as "a photo that looks like a bad render", the process gives no colour information, or transparency (which plenty of things at that scale are, your tardigrade being a perfect example), it can result in images that literally do look like a clay render
>>
>>591980
>>591982
>>591988
>>591998

They take those images with a crazy sensitive laser that gives them 3D data to produce a detailed scan of the water bear.

So its not actually a picture taken from light data like a normal photo but a 3D scan.

The creepy thing is that for an electron microscope to even work, the subject has to be coated in a nanometers-thick coating of metal for the microscope to see anything... considering that tardigrades are nearly unkillable, being able to survive insane temperatures, the vacuum of space, and complete dehydration, it was likely still alive, encased in a film of metal when it was being scanned.

No studio could've had the massive laser setup needed to create perfectly linear shadows. It'd have taken a wall of weak lasers the size of the set, which would've taken years to build and millions of dollars at the time, which would be more like billions or trillions today.

It was cheaper to just shoot people to the moon at the time than it was to fake the light and gravity.

Sossusvlei in Namib Desert, Africa depicting thousand-year-old Acacia erioloba trees once thriving in an ancient marsh here.

The dune behind the camera casts a shadow across the pan and trees. The sun can only reach the face of the dune in the background
>>

Yeah, I just love taking a stroll down to the Namib Desert every Sunday to look at the thousand-year-old Acacia erioloba trees that once thrived there in an ancient marsh.

Not like those lazy shut-ins that go hiking in their local nature, I am a real hiker and only hike in the faraway desert.
>>
>>601354
you're so wise!
>>
>>601259

They don't simply use it to achieve what the name implies - high dynamic range. It's like they think HDR is some kind of effect, when it's really just acquiring details in shadows and highlights that can't be done in one photo.
>>
>>600160

Because some filthy gommunist architects came about in the 50's claiming that the beauty of classic European architecture represents slavery and colonialism.

>>
>>601259

I'll be a little pedantic here and clarify that it's not something inherent to HDR as it is to the was you have to tonally compress the image to make it viewable on a screen or suitable for print, after all the raw HDRIs we use for environment lighting don't have the issue since they're uncompressed. But since you're bringing lighter and darker tones closer together, the computer has to figure out a way to blend the range in-between via tone mapping, and certain algorithms produce the halos you see in the most hands-off and lazy methods. If the computer had a way to intelligently asses the content of the image and blend all the transitions perfectly, then you would never even know that it was shot through multiple exposures. More often than not that requires manually setting up blends in Photoshop, and ain't nobody got time fo' dat.
