Can anyone help a brother out. I'm making an indoor scene and trying to make lights that render out like in this image. I'm using spot lights and the lighting is perfect, I just want the lights, or a similar object to glow, or create the star like shape.
I've played with all the settings for lens flares and glow setting but the spot light still doesn't show up i render.

Please help?
Heres what is rendering, like I want to be able to see the lights. Tried googling but just can't find anything.

Just realised a photo didn't attach
That might be post-prod, but I'm not an expert.
Some render engines let you set lens/aperture effects for stuff like this, but Mental Ray probably doesn't.

Just do it in post.

I'm pretty sure mental ray has a render element for this kind of stuff. Otherwise you just add them in post-production.
There is actually a way you can do it in 2016. Image is from a tutorial in a textbook; where it says to set the option to "ball," if I remember correctly you can change it to star or whatever you want

Hoping this is what you meant.
