Yo /3/, I haven't been here in years.

Did you guys ever finish remaking this?
>>
No newfag
>>
>>555398

You're a super cool guy
>>
>>555399
Gett
>>
>>555395

Lol I don't even remember that thing anyways
>>
N
>>
I remember someone got really close to finishing it.
>>
Yes, I did,
and it got me a job but I wont post it here because it has a high chance of getting stolen
>>
>>555395
wtf is this? :v I'm a newfag
>>
>>555395
wow. did /3/ pick one of the most complex things out there to collab?
thats just out of their league
>>
>>554588

/3/ can't even make a simple shape without people raging about how the edges aren't smooth enough and the shape itself is slightly wrong. You really thought a full scene packed to the brim with details like this would make it off the drawing board?
>>
No. The modeling was pretty much done but then some faggot went and ruined it by projecting textures onto everything and pretending he did all the work on his portfolio which made everyone mad and the project died.
>>
>>555417
>>555433
makes you wonder
>>
>>555395

i remember that
>>
>>555398

what's it like working at pixar, master yoda?
>>
>>555503

no it doesn't because he's lying. it was supposed to be a collab they made in pieces. if he only made on piece he could easily show it in wireframe mode.

lmao, get a load of this guy who was criticized for doing a shit job of recreating the original shape and is now bitching about it in other threads

>>
>>555427
Actually that scene OP posted did get made by people on this board. There are images of it floating around. I've never bothered to save them.
No doubt the people who used to actually make shit are long gone due to faggots like you who just constantly bitch about everything.

This is a pretty old image but it's the only one I can find on the internet. No idea how much more of the project was completed.

Wow, color me surprised. The textured version was really starting to have the same feel as the image too.

Could've been something amazing with proper lighting and all. That's a real shame.

>>
>>555555
>>
>>555620

Mostly because 4chan can't do anything to completion. People lost interest, the project ran out of steam, and the guy (guys?) organizing the bulk of it got sick of doing all the work.

Anyway, if anyone out there has the files, post a link for posterity. Maybe the next generation of /3/ deadbeats will make minor progress on it.
>>
>>555768

I think a bigger issue is that /3/ is a jumping board. its Anonymous so the crits hurt less as your name isnt stuck on it. there is no form of order or 'old hands' as soon as anyone gains even moderate skill the move to a more serious forum like polycount or CG Soc and no one notices, so /3/ looks eternally shitty and lazy. only the insane stay for long.
>>
>>555620
Nobody is being paid for this much work.
>>
>>555820
>more serious forum like polycount or CG Soc
those forums are circle jerks my man
>>
>>555588
How long did this take you?
>>
>>555850

I know, but its still more serious, Than here at least, which is depressing. This place is free of anyone's professional accounts or identity so it would be great for more colab work to happen.

>>
>>555881
I wouldn't call that "finished". Textures and materials are horrible, mostly frontal projected from the original, the background IS the original. Its a total hack-job, and it looks like somebody wanted to get it done, not caring about the actual quality.

Is there anything else left by them?

There are multiple variations of the same original picture. Some done by Imperial Boy and some just tweaked in photoshop. They range from extremely bright and pleasant to extremely grungy.

Pretty sure they did it based on this one.

There's also a middle of the night one

Fuck the renders, I'm more interested now on how long it took the original artist to draw this.

Just noticed most of the "roadways" aren't roadways at all, they're waterways with boats on them.

Total newfag here with no creative qualities or talent whatsoever.

Assuming that this WebM is my goal for five years from now, putting in a few hours per week to learn, what do I do? What sort of software is used to create stuff like this?

This sticky is a mess.
>>
>>556351
first you need to learn how to make shapes. Then you need to learn how to uv map so you can make textures for the shapes. after that you need to set up your lighting which can be as simple as a directional light to a physical sky and lights coming from some of the objects.

It will take forever but you just need keep pumping out the models. divide the image into single buildings and just work on one at a time. eventually everything will start fitting together until you have a fat ass city.
>>
/3/ also made this game at some point. I hope someone still has a link, where it can be played online.

right now i'm making the interior for my university's business building for us to stick on the school website as an interactive tour using unity. pic is the administrations office. it's only about 1/3 of the way done and that's not including texturing or anything else.

a bit different than a golden cock statue, I think.

I'm in the computer science program but they found out i'm the only non-cad 3d person in the entire school, so they are paying me and will let me use this as a senior project.
