Probably not all that different from Instagram networking. Set up your profile, like a Tumblr, and comment (reblog with a comment) on other people's work and eventually someone will check you out. Also tagging, but unfortunately the default search on Tumblr is this search enginey method that looks for words in posts and not just tags and NSFW blogs don't show up in that search, they only show up in /tagged/soandso searches. And you have to set your blog as NSFW if it's NSFW, or else you get deleted. Could also use an Instagram of tamer renders and put up links to each profile, lots of info on how to get popular on Instagram.

Then you can put your commission info / Patreon / whatever on there.

Some of the good ones I sell on Redbubble as prints and shirts as well.

It's not a ton of cash or even a livable wage, but it's a good way to get the odd steam game here and there. It's mostly passive once you get people buying on Redbubble.

If you want to make good money, keep an eye on current trends and pretty much pander to whoever will pay you.
Or don't, and make what you like. Chances are someone might like what you make enough to commission something.

Make a tumblr and just put shit on there. I did SFM porn for a few months and only out up around 3 or so animations and a few posters. Got a few hundred followers very quickly. I don't do it anymore but I checked in on it a few weeks ago and I had messages asking where I went or saying to please come back. The guys behind Breeding Season were making 42 grand a month on average. At some point it peaked at 50k but settled back down to 43-42k.

And that "game" wasn't anything besides an unfinished visual novel that people downloaded just to try out the new animations on the gallery every update. The art was alright, but not 50 grand alright, and the project fell apart because they didn't want to work together and had no discipline. With that kinda money, you could probably pay three professionals 5 - 7k a month, have them make the game under you as a director, and blow the rest of the cash on hookers and weed.

Just as a fun thought experiment, imagine you pay destitute ex-Vanillaware employees that kinda money to make you a porn game? They could easily make something that would blow all these kiddie scam projects out of the water with a fraction of the budget, set some actual standards to follow when it comes to porn on patreon, and then suddenly the gravy train is over for those people.

The artist behind Breeding Season moved on to another project called Cloud Meadow, which is the exact same assets on a slightly different game package. He's still getting paid 11 grand a month to fuck around with his hobby and put out an unfinished patreon build whenever he feels like it.

It just seems like porn animations are really easy to animate in comparison to anything else, so you don't really get to improve on anything because it's so damn simple.

I've seen a lot of really good porn animators that are embarrassingly awful at animating anything that isn't porn. They can't do walk cycles, they can't do moving characters, they can't animate on more than one axis, etc.

I use AdvancedSkeleton which I have a love/hate relationship with but is the best rigging package I've come across. AdvS is slightly buggy but at this point I'm used to opening up the source code and figuring out how to fix when it fucks up. Also I sometimes have to add details on top of the basic rig, like custom facial rigging for example. So studying a few rigging tutorials including MEL scripting was useful.
