Anyone taking part in this? Im definitely going to start. The tool is garbage but anyone who can model in another program can easily just use the garbage model as a mesh and improve it.

The crutch of using iclone seems to be scaring off a lot of the better modellers on polycount so its a chance for us newbies to win something for a fucking change. Also so far most entries are shit. Lets get to it lads.

What am I downloading here. Lots of shit on their page.

This.
Theres a larger suite of software called iclone that this is part of but you dont need it unless you want to use their animation stuff. which is balls
>>
lol someone "finished" already
>>
>>533058
Do these people even read the judging criteria?
What an embarrassment and they're too stupid and shit to even realise it.

Tit slider in it is crazy. One of the entrants already complained about it and made a flatchested azn in zbrush

>Your original creation of a fully-rigged & animated, 3D humanoid (biped) character.
>A 30-second video is required to show the personality and detail of the character. Turntable video for character animations display is acceptable.
>1 x video link from YouTube or Vimeo ( video size is not limited/better video quality is encouraged)
>Entrants may submit up to 3 videos for award consideration.
>>
>>533064
I torrented iclone 6 and plan on just using a base pose and a buncha their shitty animations. you use their character creator its all rigged for you anyways
>>
Wouldn't hurt to shit something out as an entry. Some of the other prizes are Vive and that one chinese clothing app.
>>
lol I deleted I clone yesterday D: it was in my pc and I stumbled on it and I was like wtf is this and turned on and this shit D:

should we own iclone? is it free?
I'm just starting doing some character I'll do it for this contest D:

I thought they were trying to establish themselves as a serious software dev.
Tits that big can't be used for any real work. They exist solely for depraved deviantArt tier porn.
>>
>>533070
I imagine they will tone down the default slider option for that but you can just bake the morph and its re-zeroed. Allowing the deviant art style Daz room filling boobs.

oh and I'm creating Black Female Cyborg Ninja!!! (not sexualized) :D

Tell me more about why iclone is garbage. I thought about 'acquiring' it to get in on the real-time rendered 3d porn money, because of the cloth dynamics (cloth-based dynamic hair would be a nice touch) and its ability to use DAZ characters.

Are the animation tools bad or something? Bad renders? Shitty UI?
>>
>>533099
Limited creation tool (I'v seen better in games)
The lighting is awful, the animations are awful. Really if youre not looking at the website and thinking "holy shit thats ugly" then i dont know what to say.

>Really if youre not looking at the website and thinking "holy shit thats ugly" then i dont know what to say.

Well yeah, the renders are pretty fucking gross. The animation I blame on the individual animators though. If it has a timeline, graph editor and dope sheet, I am sure a good animator could do some good animation with it.

Exactly, a good animator could do something good with it, just like a good modeller...but why put yourself through the trouble when theres better alternatives. If you want cloth and hair sim just use maya for porn.

This is probably the best designs on the board so far but the poster said theyre a newbie modeller so im not sure they can pull it off or even if its their concept. Considering they dont know how to make hair im not worried
>>
>>533106

You're right about the abilities of a full DCC app, of course. I was only interested based on it being a real-time renderer. Rendering video with Mental Ray (or MODO internal, since I am a MODO guy) just takes so long, you know?
>>
>>533106
That's one of omochaboxs concepts from a few years back. She used to post on /IC/. Pretty sure '3levan' isn't her as she goes by Omochabox or pickledopinion online. They've just removed the swords and added a walkie talkie so I'm not convinced it's theirs. Maybe they have permission to use it but considering mochas blog is private now I doubt it.
>>
here's awesome template for starting concept
I think I'll start with this

Some guy is making a mermaid, another is making a guy with prosthetic legs.. with a bit of work you could build an elite. Though i guess hes joking cos its not awesome. its shit.

>>533109
Might be the original artist, they say theyre not a 3d modeller and just learning but the quality of their work would indicate theyre either lying or come from some other art discipline. Its the best so far, though that isnt saying much.
>>
>>533142
why are people in such a hurry, we got time untill october aren't we?
>>
>>533142
They definitely come from 2D. Also being humble is one of the greatest traits an artist can have. There is always someone better than you.
>>
>>533177
Would learning 2d help with my 3d? Not just with concept but anatomy and folds and stuff or does it not matter if i just stick to 3d?

I think it matters a lot
I started 3d like half year ago, and I had pause like 3-4 months I have not touched a shit due to work,
I had 2d experience for many years (in my childhood teenage years I was studying in drawing school for 10 years) and also graphic design, video editing jobs, so it helps me a lot in 3d
yesterday I switches Zbrush for first time and I sculpted this like in an hour, I have never sculpted before, and actually I was not thinking that I'l do it with such an ease

I know it has flaws and it's not in a standards of 3, but it's a start
>>
>>533216
Yeah but lets say instead of spending all that time drawing you spent it just doing 3d wouldnt you just learn as much? or even be better at 3d cos youd know the tools.

I suppose at least 2d skills are transferable but 3d sort of isnt
>>
>>533219

>Yeah but lets say instead of spending all that time drawing you spent it just doing 3d wouldnt you just learn as much?

No. When doing 3d people often dont think of the 2d principles they are using while doing it.

1 Silhouette
2 Proportion
3 Color theory for texturing
4 Examination of reference materials escorche etc

I think both disciplines aid the other. I dont do any drawing but if I started I could apply the principles I study which I listed above to it and have an advantage over a complete beginner 2d artist.

Learning software packages should take no longer than a month and then you only know as much as someone else.

The only thing that can seperate you from other people is applying the basic artistic principles consistently over a long period of time.
>>
>>533220
I dont know... silhouette and proportion are very much a consideration when sculpting. And color theory is something alot of 3d artists know more about than 2d as creating your own shaders, materials, textures and lighting for realism is very unforgiving.

Not saying their isnt a benefit to knowing 2d but if youre studying something then the artform you apply your art to can differ but the knowledge be the same right?
>>
>>533219
of course I would have known 3d if I studied and worked on it for all these years, but I never wanted 3d until, kinda last years clicked it in me

but you are asking kinda strange thing, I learned 2d(and all art forms in general) for the sake of them not because I wanted to learn 3d in some future and all these experiences are aiding me very very much,
when I started learning softwares I understood instantly most things, because I know main 2d opackages (photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign) and video packages, After Effects, Premiere and many many other softwares and it helps me understanding and Ui s etc...
and drawing really helps me, I even can not describe how it helps me )) but I know anatomy + I know color. now I suck at drawing because I have not done it in years and my hand is kinda off but all this knowledge is somehow helping me very much
It helps me in texturing, and in many things, but as I say I have not learned 2d because of 3d, but knowing it helps
>>
>>533177
>>533142

It's the original artist. I emailed her and asked and she's been learnin 3D. So yeah she has 10years as a concept artist behind this. New to 3D but a 'begginer' is hardly accurate imo but yeah I also appreciate artists who can be a bit humble.

I think I'm going to enter, been looking for an excuse to build an astronaut and it might hold up with their cloth physics
>>
Someone posted this as a concept which i kinda like.

>>533226
>>533142
For a concept artist her penmanship is awful judging from that pic but her sculpting is pretty decent for a newbie.

>>533224
I learned 3d first and have no interest in 2d. I would if i thought it helped me learn anything but i would rather learn traditional sculpture than drawing skills. Though getting some sculpey might not be a bad idea.
>>
>>533233
it's Diablo Monk ripoff, year 2045, I don't like it so much,
can you link me to that forum?

+ I'm saying drawing/sculpting etc (traditional art) kinda helps, nothing more, but I would not have learned it if I knew that I was going to be primary 3d artist, of course I would've started from 3d. but I'm not going for that BTW
I have profession and job already (which I'm good at BTW),
I'm learning this as a hobby by myself and maybe it'll get my main thing one day.

one thing I have from all that is, for example I have character in my head, I'll make it like I want it to be, many people know softwares but lack in that part they just follow what they are doing, (my English sucks, maybe I'm not explaining myself very well IDK (( )
+ and I kinda sound full of myself, I'm not, I still suck and new in 3d and I hope I'll get to what I want
