Daz Studio is just a rendering program. If you just want to arrange scenes with assets other people make it'll be fine, but if you want to make your own assets then you'll need a modelling program.

Hexagon has a bridge to Daz Studio built into it (and vice versa) and only costs $20 but doesn't run well on Windows 7 and Windows 8 machines (runs pretty stable on Windows 10 machines though).

Otherwise you could use 3D Wings or Blender for your modelling and then export the assets as .obj and import them into Daz Studio.
