I started making abstract images for use as desktop backgrounds a while ago. Can I have some opinions and improvement input? Higher quality images coming soon.
So how do I make it better?
Learn lighting, color theory, and most importantly composition.
Hardly seems like a lucrative buissnes model OP, so my question to you would be : Why ?

i'd suggest reading up on some art theory, like the other anon said, and work towards something more original

I wasn't being a cunt intentionally. I was just messing around with some models I found. Thought I'd make some interesting poses.
it is profitable if you gid gud'. also is fun to experiment with stuff that no one have done before.
As said in the title, i use blender3D.
Here is a cool tutorial I found for making abstract backgrounds. They primarily use particles in blender.
Particles has great potential when it comes to making abstract art, and they're incredibly fun to use. They are also a great tool to know for 3d art in general (starfields, dust particles, rain ,grass/hair, etc.)
This tutorial also includes some basic animation, and will show you how to use text, particle effects, basic lighting and a little physics to achieve a small intro movie. While it's not exactly what you're looking for, it will introduce you to various tools that will help you make better backgrounds. Heck you might even like to start making some intro movies yourself.
Also follow the links to the related videos for more of the same. I think once you've got lighting and the above mentioned tools down you'll be on your way to making some great backgrounds OP.

I used one of the videos to make this. The background could use some improvement but oher than that I hope its better.

Nice depth of field there. Are those particles emitters ? Yeah I think it's looking better.
I was thinking maybe you could even use the mesh you used in the original background and use it as a particle emitter. make it invisible. let all the particles emit at frame 1 Emit in volume. give them some luminosity. Then you've got a nice pattern to your particles.
Just a thought. But good work you've learned some new tools that you can use.

I used a sphere as the emitter and a path with a curve guide modifier.
sorry, what i mean to ask was, are your particles emitting light ?

Thanks and yes. I used the emmission shader in cycles and focused the camera on the hidden emitter of the particles. But to get the clouds I had to use a crapton of samples, something around 2500.

Damn this looks nice. Did you use the fibonacci sequence for the curve? And any ideas on how to change the color of the particles based on their position on the curve?
I did aim to make it similar to the fibonacci spiral but didn't use any proper calculation. I just did it by eye.
Turns out you can change the particles colour based on position just had to render with cycles and set up a colour ramp and sample that based on position.
Here's the node setup.
The (sub&sub)->div is set up according to the formula x-a/b-a
where x is our x value taken from object location
a is the min x value, here the curve starts at a world location with 5 as the x value so we use 5 for a
b is the max x value, here there curve ends at 30
This should give us a range of 0-1 for values that are between 5 and 30. That value is then plugged into the colour ramp effectively giving us a smooth transition from a black at the start of the curve and a white at the end of the curve.
That explanation probably wasn't necessary but as you can see it's 8 am and I've been up all night. I'm gonna go sleep.
Does blender have a Depth of Field Blur with Bokeh effects? If yes than use it! Normal Blur always looks cheap/ugly.
